Plus most people record programmes nowadays which is not included and doctor who is number 1 on BBC iplayer. So don’t panic they won’t cancel it. The figures are dropping because overall less people are watching live television because recording and catch up services are more convenient. Once the recorded shows have been watched and iplayer viewers included Doctor Who is actually reaching over 10 million viewers according to a recent study by the BBC. these figures are great and as doctor who is the bbcs flagship Saturday night programme and is more popular worldwide an ever it will not be leaving our screens any time soon.

May 5th, 2013 - 10:06pm^Oliver, do you realise that even the final figures are getting lower? Hide had a final of 6.6 mil. The Impossible Astronaut scored 6.5 in over nights, and at the time, we all thought THAT was bad.
I used to tell myself that it was all down to nasty opposition and viewing methods, like you are doing now, but The Crimson Horror wasn’t facing anything big this week, and it performed badly.
The viewing is simply falling. It’s not deniable any more. I think that Steven Moffat and Matt Smith will leave at the end of series 8 (but that’s just a hunch, I’ve not got proof!) And then once they do leave, it needs to have a year or two off air again.

May 8th, 2013 - 8:09pm^Hi, I’m the 14th Doctor, and yeah, I’ve got nothing against Smith or even Moffat. But I do think that next series could possibly be the last for both of them. After eight years, including a year off, I think it’s showing the first signs of needing a proper rethink. That’s all.

May 5th, 2013 - 2:12pmBest of the series for me but in a way it bought home how quickly these episodes move and how much i miss the “classic” format
This had many similarities to the Talons of Weng Chiang, my favourite story (and Carry on screaming but that another matter)
The acting from Diana Rigg and Rachael Stirling (especially) was superb, streaks a head of many other episodes.
Turn this into a 4 (or even 6) 25 mins episode story and flesh out the characters and back story and not so much dashing about and i would be fantastic, but it would also have about 2m viewers most probably.

May 6th, 2013 - 12:11amExactly. The warm weather and longer days…people are outside enjoying themselves. It’s a lot easier to catch an episode when it’s already dark outside and cold. Personal opinion but this is how I feel. On a miserable day more people would be around to switch the t.v. on and watch it.
I love the episodes especially the Gatiss ones. They have a very ‘League of Gentlemen’ feel. People are always moaning and any negativity is definitely not good for the series.
What do you people expect? It’s a series not a movie and I think for 45mins episodes they’re doing a pretty good job. The effects are good, props don’t look tacky, good cinematography, costumes etc. Also it’s a family tv series so it can’t be too complicated otherwise younger viewers won’t be able to follow the plot. There’s also the mystery around Clara’s identity which slowly unfolds and will hopefully make the final episode a lot more interesting and all the pieces will fall into place.

May 5th, 2013 - 11:33amSuch a shame the overnight is so low as it was the best episode of this half of series 7 but to be honest I expected it as it was such a sunny warm evening on a bank holiday weekend and 6.30 is to early for this time of year. Fingers crossed the final figure will go over 6 million but the week on week drop is a big worry. I wonder if the i player figures are on the rise though?

May 5th, 2013 - 2:22pm^ I love your optimism, but you’re kind of just searching for excuses now. I think we need to accept, we are losing viewers. It doesn’t mean the end of the show. It just means that the BBC better do something about it.
For instance, Hide’s final figure was 6.61 mil. The Impossible Astronaut had an overnight of 6.5 mil and we all panicked about that, until it went up.

All i’m saying is that the BBC will look at the big picture, total tv audience, iplayer, overseas audience DVD sales, merchandise sales etc etc etc, Doctor Who is exporting well at the moment and getting strong viewing figures in other countries.
And if they feel it needs a change or needs cancelling or whatever then thats up to them

we just have to accept that it isn’t a “must watch it there and then” programme any more with many choosing to watch a recording later or on iplayer. its overall audience is still very large
