Writer Mark Gatiss explains his fascination with Daleks and explores their timeless appeal.

Plus, Radio Times takes an exclusive first look into the BBC’s online archive to find out its top Doctor Who secrets

An online BBC Archive project allows the first ever access to audience research reports on previous Time Lords from John Pertwee to Sylvester McCoy. Radio Times went to find out more.

And an interview with Gordon Brown including a quickfire round of questions about topics such as Doctor Who:

Hamlet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Romeo and Juliet?

“Hamlet [with David Tennant]. I saw it recently.”

John Pertwee, Tom Baker, David Tennant or Matt Smith?

“I think you know what I’m going to say here. Yes. David Tennant is the best.”

the daleks can travel without slats because they have bigger base like the 60s daleks

But the ratings aren’t declining. They were down from the week before but it was still the most watched show of the day with an AI index of 86 (excellent). Just because the total number of viewers might be lower doesn’t mean it’s declining. You have to look at it as a whole.

I love the designs. Anyone resiting this 1960s back-to-basics fun approach can stop moaning or stop watching,

As for the declining ratings, the BBC arent concerned with the ratings for DW these days.

Thanks for the apology. I only ever put down facts on these things as i know how petty people can get sometimes.

Facts are facts. Undeniable and true.

They still look crap though. Moffat is intent on making this new series a rehash of the Cushing movies. TARDIS exterior first and now the Daleks. What next?

I thought the slats were supposed to be the Daleks solar power source, perhaps they have a new idea now.

So, the new colors are indicative of their position: Supreme, Scientist, Strategist, etc. Makes sense.

    @ derek:

Who says they have to have slats? Their technology can advance and improve. Heck, before 2005’s “Dalek” they didn’t have personal force fields, nor could their entire top half rotate.

For all those who want to know, the colour schemes goes as such:
    Red Daleks=Drones
    Orange Daleks=Scientists
    Blue Daleks=Strategists
    White Dalek=Supreme Dalek
    Yellow Dalek=Eternal Dalek

Has any one noticed the lack of slats?
I think the design looks cool.
But how can the daleks have complete mobility without slats????
    Thats just confusing.

I’m going to make some of you angry but I think it is a stupid idea. Why would a species that hate anything with emotion have coloured daleks anyway? and yes I know it is for their ranks but why not just have different tags and I thought all daleks were the same so shouldn’t any dalek be able to think on their own without relying on a rainbow team of daleks. Seriously one emperor should be enough for their army. Also I thought Moffat was trying to make doctor who scary again, so why have daleks that look like lollipops.

They must be in the episode, as the white version was seen in the trailer.

And I agree about the Daleks looking like Power Rangers, red, yellow, blue, green and white. Did they ever do a season with that color arrangement?

Disscusions and opinions are almost just as important than the actual show itself in a way, fan speculation, anitcicpation, dissapointment, thats why websites like these have comment sections. I agree that people need to see them in action first, but its not the actual episode its the visual impact of the reveal, and there is no denying that they look very different. People are not happy and some are.

CG, there is no need for scans, I have seen the coloured Daleks and not from any magazine, unfortunately you will never convince everyone because of the way the RT have gone about showing them, this argument is going on all over the internet at the moment.

You know you are right and that’s all that matters really

I think we need to leave this alone now.

No one can show the photos as they are out of bounds until the appropriate time.

The best thing to do is watch the episode, then you will see.

to CG when the rest of the world see these images we will beleive you but at the moment with absalutely no evidence im sorry to say it is quite hard to beleive your point, all i have seen is a khaki coloured dalek a bronze dalek and a white dalek dome and three daleks on a magazine which clearly say election special. i am sorry to sound rude but instead of telling us about these images tell us where to find them.
