Sarah Jane Adventures – BBC Statement
The Sarah Jane Adventures
From the BBC …
04th May 2011
The BBC confirmed today that following the death of Elisabeth Sladen there are no plans to film further episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures.
Elisabeth Sladen first played the role of Sarah Jane in Doctor Who in 1973 and following her return to the show in 2006, played the eponymous lead in the award-winning CBBC series, The Sarah Jane Adventures, from 2007 onwards.
The full statement regarding the future of the series is below:
Contrary to press reports today we can confirm that no new episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures will be filmed following the tragic death of actress Elisabeth Sladen in April, 2011. As a tribute to Elisabeth the six episodes that were recorded with her last year will be broadcast on CBBC at a date to be confirmed.”

May 12th, 2011 - 7:33pmIt’s sad to think that this series will just end.
I hope they release the scripts to the remaining 6 episodes.

May 17th, 2011 - 5:06pmHopefully they’ll bring them out in a special book

May 11th, 2011 - 2:59pm@biggest doctor who fan
What you said about another former companion taking over may be quite good. Someone like jo grant because (I dont know if you know about the show) But in the 80’s show blakes 7, the original charcter blake left the show before the last series and they continued on with out him so yeah not a bad idea
Jonathan Turner
May 17th, 2011 - 5:06pmIt wouldn’t work cause the ratings would drop dramaticlly as everyone loves Lis
Jak
May 9th, 2011 - 6:26pmin six episodes does that man the whole series or the first three including the parts? im glad they’re not filming more cos they would use another actor and that would be rubbish
biggest doctor who fan
May 8th, 2011 - 3:58pmI think the show should still continue
I love the show and do not want it to end
An old companion could take up the reins or luke, clyde & rani just continue on their own
There’s just got to be a way to keep the show running
IT CAN’T GO 🙁
R.I.P LIZ SLADEN
Black TARDIS
May 9th, 2011 - 7:08pmWell they obviously can get rid of it. It would be a crime to continue it and it would not be respective to the fact that Elizabeth Sladen was a great actress, simply by replacing her to create a replicate. Also, with luke, clyde or Rani to continue it would still be difficult. For one: they’re teenagers and has always relied on SJS to save the world as she has had the experience from 3 doctors from the regular series (4 if you count Dimensions in Time). It also would be setting a bad example, say if the trickster invaded earth while Luke, Clyde and Rani were at School/Uni. They would effectively be commiting truancy (Bunking off school)
Jonathan Turner
May 9th, 2011 - 9:41pmI agree with you there it wouldn’t work with Rani, Luke and Clyde or having someone else take over the lead role
NotADalek
May 7th, 2011 - 6:59pmWell, at least the filmed episodes will air later this year. It is a shame that such a popular series had to come to such an abrupt end…probably, what do people around here make of the Jo Grant Adventures or the Luke, Clyde and Rani Adventures?
Anon
May 7th, 2011 - 5:10pmi think that in a few years they should make a new spin off when luke clyde and rani are grown up and dey fite aliens .
Fox Mulder
May 4th, 2011 - 8:03pmCant wait, and yes I think there should be an episode to explain her Onscreen death or dissapearence . Rani,Clyde amd the Doctor could team up to find out what happened to Sarah Jane.
David
May 4th, 2011 - 8:18pmThis is a really difficult one, i’m inclined to think they should leave Sahara Jane out there somewhere
Jonathan Turner
May 4th, 2011 - 8:58pmI would like to be able to think that Sarah Jane’s still on Bannerman Road fighting aliens with Clyde and Rani because that’s how we normally would be left to remember things at the end of the series
Fox Mulder
May 5th, 2011 - 1:33amThe actors that potrayed ian and Barbra wright from 1st doctor who 1963-68 are dead BUT in the Whoniverse there still alive and well according to SJA, maybe ye are right
jedijim
May 5th, 2011 - 3:02amOf course Sarah Jane is still on Bannerman Road, and the Brig is off on some UNIT business in Peru!
Also,Sherlock Holmes is regaling Watson down on Baker Street and The Doctor is somewhere/when in Time And Space! The greats of fiction are immortal as long as people read and watch!
It’s Nick and Lis and so many others we admire who we shall have to wait to see perform again upon Heaven’s Stage!

May 5th, 2011 - 8:45pmIn the whoniverse sarah jane dies in 2019 i think
Drsuperwho
May 6th, 2011 - 1:23pmErm, Bill Russle is still alive and well. Anyway back on topic, it is true the BBC should just leave it there. Srarah will live forever.
third doctor
May 7th, 2011 - 2:21pmThere should be no explaination of Sarah Jane smith. She will live on as the same as the Brigadier. Sarah jane smith is still living on Bannerman Road or might be travelling with the doctor again in the tardis with the tenth doctor fighting aliens. As shown in the Elisabeth Sladen Tribute Russell T Davies said he wants to keep Sarah alive so to keep thinking of what she’s doing to protect the earth from aliens.

May 7th, 2011 - 3:58pmi agree but i think it would be weird watching an episode without sarah jane at all
biggest doctor who fan
May 8th, 2011 - 4:01pmI think that’s actually a really good idea
Maybe amy and rory aswell
Fox Mulder
May 20th, 2011 - 3:30amSorry guy I didn’t known William russel was alive loops but yes characters are immortalized weather or not the actor is alive or passed on. RIP Lizzz
Jonathan Turner
May 4th, 2011 - 7:04pmIt’s good they are going to show the first three episodes in memory of her as it would have been a great shame not to and I think it’s great they’re not replacing her. RIP Lis

May 4th, 2011 - 6:22pmR.I.P liz <3 but in a few years maybe, the rose tlyer adevntures sound ideal. i mean, sj an rose were friends after all ?
I Love Cybermen
May 4th, 2011 - 5:08pmSad. I understand why but couldn’t they have set up ‘Jo Grant adventures’ or ‘Clyde Adventures’? Ok, might be a little soon…and thereby a little crass but, all the same, this news saddens me greatly.
JumpingDog
May 4th, 2011 - 5:21pmHmm “Clyde Adventures” sounds good but I think “Jo grant adventures” wouldn’t work. It would be funny If they had “martha jones adventures” or even “rose tyler adventures”.
DoctorWho2011
May 4th, 2011 - 5:54pmor jumingdog the luke smith adventures
DoctorWho4Eva
May 4th, 2011 - 6:17pmor ‘Doctor Who Adventures’ LOL. Wait a minute.
Viathevoid
May 4th, 2011 - 5:07pmI think this is the right way to do it. Maybe do a new spin-off in a few years. I am glad that they are showing the 3 episodes they did. If there was a story arc I am sure they could edit it out.
Maybe what they should do is release the stories they never made should be released on a audio read by one of the cast or novelise it like Target did for the 1985 series.

May 4th, 2011 - 5:08pmI will look at the stats pages and see how many people are still looking

May 4th, 2011 - 4:38pmI am really glad we will see the last episodes she did as a tribute
third doctor
May 4th, 2011 - 4:15pmIn THE SUN newspaper bbc have told that they want to show the last epsiodes of Elisabeth Sladen but they said the rest of the episodes have to be rewitten to explain how sarah jane is not in the rest of the series why cant the BBC just let them show the 6 episodes of Elisabeth Sladen and let the show lie to rest.I don’t think it would work trying to explain where sarah jane is. In my mind that Sarah has gone with the Tenth Doctor travelling in the tardis in space and time. Why Don’t the BBC and i think also Russell T Davies would agree let the fans imaginations run wild where Sarah Jane is Doing to Save the universe or Travelling with the Doctor. Elisabeth Sladen is a true and brillant Actress.

May 4th, 2011 - 4:31pmThe BBC seemed to have released this statement in response to the Sun’s article.
third doctor
May 4th, 2011 - 5:53pmi know that BBC has released this statement to The Sun i’m just saying why can’t the BBC just show the episodes and not rewrite anymore episodes without sarah jane. I’m sorry if i’m being rude but it so tragic that Elisabeth has suddenly gone.
booboo
May 4th, 2011 - 6:02pmBut that’s what they are going to do,there not re-writing them its the sun that got it all wrong.
third doctor
May 4th, 2011 - 6:42pmoh well typical Sun they get the wrong things round don’t they. I do apologize Booboo
booboo
May 4th, 2011 - 6:55pmno worries
KORSAIR
May 4th, 2011 - 4:11pmSo does this mean that there were no season 6 episodes filmed completly?
booboo
May 4th, 2011 - 4:29pmI understand 3 stories (6 episodes) were finished, the 1st 2nd and the final
Dark Side of the Moon
May 4th, 2011 - 4:48pmWell if its the 1st, 2nd and last story that ought to work well. As someone else said, having the last story seems very fitting….so unless there is some crazy story arc that was intended to be referred to in stories 3,4 and 5 then this should work quite nicely as a mini series. I changce SJA fans to say farewell to SJ properly and a tribute to the late great Elisabeth Sladen.

May 4th, 2011 - 7:37pmNo, the last Doctor Who Magazine Special Edition confirmed it was the first six.
Tom
May 4th, 2011 - 4:02pmSo the series 6 episodes that were filmed last year will be shown? I guess that’s a nice fitting tribute 🙂

Jason doctorwhoone
May 4th, 2011 - 4:08pmIndeed, a fitting tribute to the end of a fantastic Children’s Series, and an absolutely enjoyable Doctor Who Spin-Off since Invasion of the Bane. I was thinking that in the last episode, should the writers have decided to go with the idea of having Sarah suddenly not around, they could have had her suddenly appear infront of K9, Luke, Clyde, Rani and Mr Smith, who turn to the Door leading in and out of the Attic, seeing Sarah Jane, but all we would seen is a body double from behind their head, but i think alot of fan’s wouldint like that idea very much, but im really glad we will get to see Liz’s final day’s as Sarah Jane Smith 😀
