The Zygons Return for the 50th Anniversary Special
The Zygons Return for the 50th Anniversary Special
From The Official Site…
We’re delighted to confirm that the Zygons are returning to Doctor Who for the show’s 50th anniversary special.
Aside from flashbacks these malevolent shape-shifters have only appeared once before, threatening Earth in the Fourth Doctor adventure, Terror of the Zygons. Despite the fact that their solitary outing was over thirty years ago they remain a popular old enemy and in the 2010 episode, The Pandorica Opens, they were amongst the massed aliens said to be gathering above Stonehenge. Later, in The Power of Three, we learnt that Zygons had one of their ships under the Savoy Hotel in 1890 and apparently replaced half the staff with imposters! But this time they really are back…
We’ve already confirmed that in the anniversary special Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman will be joined by the returning David Tennant and Billie Piper. Screen legend John Hurt is also in the cast and earlier today we revealed that Joanna Page (Gavin & Stacey, The Syndicate) would also be appearing in this eagerly anticipated adventure.
We’ll be brining you more news soon!

April 6th, 2013 - 4:55pmThey’re a reasonably good recreation and faithful to the original.

April 6th, 2013 - 3:00pmI do like it….my only issues is why do they have to reveal this nearly seven months before it airs. Also it looks a little foamy. The original looked organic. It should have had its own story too, not just stuffed into another story with loads of other monsters, (as seems to be the case)
My problem with moffats stories is that he is trivialising all the monsters. Roman humanised rory Autons, teletubby daleks, comedy nurse sontarons, human like lesbian silurians…now the zygons were brought in as a joke, (the hotel reference) There is little suspense anymore. I mean even his best creation the weeping angels got ridiculous. (no one saw the angel statue of liberty stomping through the city that never sleeps, (new york!!)
He is starting to ruin doctor who. What on earth was the bells of saint john? What did they have to do with the story?
I LOVE doctor who, and will continue to watch it no matter what but I feel that there needs to be a rethink on the use of the monsters. And cut back on the hype. If your going to use classic daleks in a story…USE THEM. Don`t just have them relegated to a blink an you will miss them role.
Dont mess up the zygons. Ice warriors look awesome though. A great update.

April 6th, 2013 - 3:12pm“stuffed into another story with loads of other monsters, (as seems to be the case)”
What over monsters a are supposed to be in it then.
Doctor Stu
April 6th, 2013 - 3:27pmThe bells of Saint John was relating to the TARDIS having the St. John’s ambulance sticker. And the bells symbolised the ringing of the TARDIS phone when Clara called it. I also agree with the Statue of Liberty comment as when Amy and Rory were on the roof top you could see cars below. How didn’t they see it!! I also agree the new ice warriors look amazing.

April 6th, 2013 - 3:38pmThe bells of St. John refers to the TARDIS having the St. John’s ambulance sticker and the bells refers to the TARDIS phone ringing when Clara called the Doctor.

April 6th, 2013 - 4:53pmThe real reason to bring back the Zygons is that they’re shape-changing aliens and therefore can appear as anyone. This is the 50th Anniversary episode after all and we’ll be seeing the Zygons shape change into some familiar faces from the past.

April 6th, 2013 - 4:56pmare you doctor stu from YouTube by any chance?

April 6th, 2013 - 11:28pmI’m sorry but in what way is making a Silurian lesbian ‘trivialising’ the monster?

April 6th, 2013 - 6:11amWe’d like to find out how we can see the 50th anniversary special. We live in North Central Florida, have no satellite or cable tv but use the internet & Roku with Netflix and Hulu as adjuncts, and just watch everything on our wide-screen tv monitor. Presently we watch Dr. Who through Netflix; they have 86 of the 2005-2010 episodes and 76 of the 1963-? episodes. We’d still like to be involved in watching the 50th anniversary special, if you can help us.
Thanks & be well.

April 6th, 2013 - 11:57amSomething as big as the 52th anniversary will be on Netflix, so you will probably be able to watch it on there or on BBC I player

April 5th, 2013 - 4:00pmHi it said in the paper this morning (and it was confirmed by the BBC) that the 9th was in the script but decided not to do it at the last moment meaning it had to be re-written leaving out the 9th doctor!
Anonymous
April 5th, 2013 - 8:06pmWell Chris wouldn’t appear anyway if the BBC did ask him back. His said time and time again he don’t won’t to come back to Doctor Who.
Anonymous
April 5th, 2013 - 9:41pmIt was confirmed by the BBC that the story wasn’t true. Eccelston turned down the offer long before the script was finished. He never pulled out of it at all as he didn’t agree to d oit, althoguh he did speak to Steven Moffat at a few secret meetings as another Doctor who is interested in returning did interestingly enough.
Coming Full Circle
April 6th, 2013 - 4:50pmAnyway Chris’s 9th Doctor has no proper link to the present story, whereas the 10th (David) does due to him meeting River for the first time ever in his life (The library and her death).

April 5th, 2013 - 8:30amI think that its great that they have brought the Cybermen, The Great Intelligence and The Ice Warriors back to Dr Who and now the Zygons for the 50th Anniversary wow most returning classic monsters in 1 series! Also David Tennant and Billie Piper to return is great too and with John Hurt! 😀

April 6th, 2013 - 3:54pmSo excited for David Tennant and Billie Piper

April 4th, 2013 - 11:40pmI like the fact that they are giving the classic monsters teeth, like The Zygons and The Ice Warriors.

April 5th, 2013 - 10:30amWhat about the daleks
DOCTOR WHO ONE
April 5th, 2013 - 11:24amKaren Gillian and Arther Darvill are not ever returning to Doctor Who. As Karen herself said last year, she does not want her and Arther to ever return cos she feels their sad ending of Amy and Rory will be ruined if they where to return to Doctor Who, and Steven Moffat himself has no intention of bringing them back, he said that the story of Amy and Rory is officially over.
No Martha thanks, can’t stand her.
Cybermen are returning with a new look, don’t know about the Ood, but the Silence might.

April 6th, 2013 - 3:30pmIt would be good if the zygotes disguise themselves as Amy and Rory or Clara to trap the Doctor

April 4th, 2013 - 4:28pmI was so excited about them bringing back the Ice Warriors, and now I just want to go and kiss Stephen Moffat (Stephen, Steven?). I can’t wait, but I suppose I’ll have to.
Talking of which, when is this on?

The Three/Four Doctors?
April 4th, 2013 - 1:23pmI think the 3 new Doctors (Chris, David and Matt) are returning. With (Jenna, Billie, John and Joanna). I want McGann back because I think it would work! Nice to see the Zygons never seen them on screen. Probably going to watch Terror of the Zygons now!! Want to see the Daleks and the Cybermen its the 50th Anniversary come on!
Joe
April 4th, 2013 - 10:23pmi doubt Chris will return. He’s stated before he wants nothing to do with the show anymore. I’d like to see some classic doctors back.
DOCTOR WHO ONE
April 5th, 2013 - 11:25amYeah Chris won’t ever return.
booboo
April 5th, 2013 - 11:35amThere is news that he was and has changed is mind at the last minuet
The BBC have actual said he met twice with Steven Moffat recently
However, the BBC has now told Digital Spy that Eccleston was never attached to the 50th and that his decision has had no impact on production.
“Chris met with Steven Moffat a couple of times to talk about Steven’s plans for the Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode,” an official source said.
“After careful thought, Chris decided not to be in the episode. He wishes the team all the best.”
The fact that they met must mean he may have considered it.
Dalek The Supreme
April 5th, 2013 - 1:44pmToo bad, he was my second favorite New Series Doctor, after Smith. Ah well, hopefully we’ll see Tom Baker’s or Sylvester McCoy’s Doctor in it!

April 5th, 2013 - 5:58pmactually today in the doctor who news it has been confirmed that eccleston will not be appearing in the 50th.
MAXP
April 4th, 2013 - 12:28amI think the real question surely is, what about the Skarasen? How will the Zygons get their special lactic fluid without it? Man that was a scary beast back in the day, back when I was a wee pup and I first saw it.

April 3rd, 2013 - 10:42pmsilence will fall right. well i could be wrong but. silence were do u get silence
you get silence in the libary.
see were im going with this. what if the doctor saw the silence in the libary. he would not remember would he.
i think the libary will be back with the silence
Anonymous
April 4th, 2013 - 10:16amBut by this logic we could say that every place the doctor has been, that has been quiet, is related to the silence.

April 4th, 2013 - 12:37pmyes but. in the clip on you tube ( bells of saint john behind the scenes. you see river in the out fit she wore in silence in the libary. also it just happens to be a steven moffat story.

April 3rd, 2013 - 9:53pmi hope that they do not change the style of aliens from the classic series because what is the point of bringing previous aliens back like the ice warriors and having them as a different style
Dalek The Supreme
April 4th, 2013 - 9:42pmThey update them so they’re more powerful and threatening, to fit with the story, or because the old props were lost or destroyed. They changed the Cybermen all the time in the Classic Series, the Daleks were often tweaked, and given redesigns in 2005 and 2010.
Joe
April 4th, 2013 - 10:25pmyeah but imagine a cyberman appearing on screen nowadays in the same style as “the tenth planet”. it would look ridiculous with its cloth face and tinfoil armour. they need to update the monsters, and they’ve done it just right with these new Zygons.

April 3rd, 2013 - 8:59pmno i take it back not on far right… it’s sort of in the middle. and it’s a new series dalek not the classics.

April 3rd, 2013 - 10:00pmIf that actually happened in the special, I think I might die of excitement. This is why Chris should come back, it’s the only thing missing from the 9th Doctor’s story. If he only returned just for a cameo for a regeneration scene, I’d be so happy with that.
Joe
