Monday 7th June 2010

BBC Cymru Wales, BBC Worldwide and US premium entertainment network, Starz Entertainment, have today announced a three way co-production partnership that will develop a new series of the hit BBC sci-fi drama Torchwood. BBC Worldwide will also distribute the series to broadcasters globally.

The 10-episode instalment will be written by a team led by Torchwood creator, Russell T Davies, and produced by BBC Worldwide Productions. Davies and BBC Worldwide Productions’ SVP Scripted, Julie Gardner, return as executive producers with BBC Worldwide Productions EVP Jane Tranter. The series has been commissioned by Controller BBC ONE, Jay Hunt, Controller BBC Drama, Ben Stephenson, and Starz President and CEO, Chris Albrecht.

While previous series were based on location in Cardiff, Wales, this new instalment will see storylines widen to include locations in the U.S. and around the world. John Barrowman and Eve Myles will return in their roles as Captain Jack and Gwen respectively, along with new faces.

I can’t wait for it to be released again! But I’m not too sure about the America thing… does that mean there’ll be less of our british humour? better not be =P
It’d be cool if they met the new Doctor or something like that…

I agree with King Ninja. Torchwood is an English show. Some of the shows from there translate well on American TV, But some we screw up in a big way. See the American “Red Dwarf” on YouTube. It was horrible. Torchwood is a great show and like Doctor Who, should never be Americanized. They both are great the way they are.

Ah good. Nice to see Torchwood back and furthermore nice to see Russel T Davies and Julie Gardner back!
More locations including the US, eh? Well, ok. Lets just hope it doesn’t become to americanised. Nothin’ wrong with our buds over the Atlantic but it would be sad if the only way to ever sell a Brit series to the USA is to inlude America as much as poss. The amount of times we’ve sold ideas, changed formats and recast Brit actors for American ones for that end. I mean, an american no.6 in The Prisoner?! Hope they never try and make Dr Who an American show.
