Good episode. We see a newly designed Cybermen, we see the Silurians again, properly (excluding their cameo in The Pandorica Opens) since The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood. And we see a Sontaran! Moffat should be proud of this episode. 🙂

I could. Because I worked it out after Day of the Moon. The little girl regenerates, she’s in a space-suit, it all makes sense that she was in the space-suit and killed the Doctor. We see an image of her as a baby in Amy’s room. We know it’s her because that is her room tracked down. It all makes sense that she is Amy’s daughter. Although back then I didn’t take myself seriously. 😐

To all you folks complaining about convoluted plot lines in ‘A Good Man Goes to War”=it was so great/rewarding exactly because it makes you think and recall previous episodes/adventures. Making the viewer recall related bits of information/plot clues in a very ‘active’/engaged way. For anyone who claims to be a committed ‘Who’ fan and then says that this show has become too involved then I have a humble word of advice=go off and watch something else like Little Brittain or Birttany Spears where you only have to have 5 seconds worth of memory to make sense of what’s going on. If television shows with such a long/rich history as Doctor Who have to pander to the lowest common denominator all the time then honestly ‘what’s the point?’

completely agree its nice to see this level of writting aimed at the family for a change i love programs like lost and fringe that require you to use the grey stuff a little more , to see a programm i cherish rise to that level it well fantastic, as for being to complicated and not for children i have an 8yo boy and 10yo girl who both loved it and managed to follow it with no problems and so have most of there friends even now something will spark in my daughter and she will run up to me saying “that because of this dose that mean when she said this in this episode it means that OOooo”
so apart from horrible histories i don’t know another program that set there mind alight like this so please please please don’t dumb it down bbc finally let my licence fee be spent on quality rather than eastenders

This was a somewhat confusing episode, when watched the first time. I get the DNA part, with River. What I don’t get is why at the end, the Doctor has to go and find the baby(Melody/River)when River(since she is the baby/Melody/River) is standing right there? Someone explain this? Is it, to make sure she gets to this time period or what?

Yeah, to get her back/keep her safe we imagine. How and when we don’t know, as we have only pieces of the puzzle (if River is the little girl in the Spacesuit, the Doctor might pick her up when she regenerates in the alleyway).

Presumably, we will find out in the latter half of the series exactly what happened next.

The Cybies were awesome through i thought the Doctor was not really himself, too much genocide, its really making him the bad guy! We really needed a Silurian lesbian! And the returning of the Dalek Spitfires! But there was also too much background going on! Series 5 was by far the best of the new series!

A little bit of trivia re: Lesbian Silurians

There are 3 known species of lizards that only have females!! (Parthenogenesis is their reproductive method)

    • Intergalactic

      July 22nd, 2011 - 11:09am

I found it was a bit OTT of Silurian Vastra eating Jack the Ripper. Even though he was an evil, bad man, I think it’s wrong for her to eat him. The idea of Lesbian Silurians was bit pathetic, no offense lesbians, but I think Silurians know better than that! 😆 There are male Silurians of the new series: only Malokeh and Eldane though. The return of the Spitfires, with Danny Boy to the Doctor! Danny Boy to the Doctor! Was a bit unexpected, but was still brilliant! 🙂 And I think Series 3 is the best of the new series, but I love all the new series! 😆

i dont understand it so river is amys daughter but i thought that she was the doctors wife and thats why she snoged him. amy and donna both said that to her and she said “oh your good” and that to me sounds like that means your right. so someone please explain. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just because she is Amy’s child doesn’t mean she can’t also be the Doctors’ wife ! What I want to know is how her past is his future, why are they falling through time in reverse to each other??

    • Anonymous

      July 2nd, 2011 - 1:01pm

there is still a possibility of river being amy’s kid/doctor’s wife cause when the doc found out, he said “that means that…YOU AND ME,we…”and so on.

SO : River/Melody is Amy & Rory’s child and somehow has some Timelord DNA as well! SO : She must be the little girl in the spacesuit who can regenerate! ( Also why River said “of course not” when trying to shoot the Astronaut suit in 2011!, couldn’t kill herself!)

Being Amy’s baby does not preclude a romantic relationship with the Doctor.

Killing “A Good Man, the best I’ve ever known” ,Why would it have to be a version of the Doctor? It could also possibly be RORY!! He is a good man, and having been “The Last Centurion”, a hero to many! (Plus, the Doctor is technicaly NOT a Man, he is a male non-human from Gallifrey) And many women will tell you their Dads’ were the “best” of men!

The thing that really needs explaining is why her timeline runs opposite the Doctor’s! (Ex. his first kiss/ her last!)

mabey “the best man i’ve ever known” was the doctor cause technically, if river is the kid in the space suit, she did kill him.

Very clever, so, is River Song aka Melody Pond, also Susan Foreman? It would make sense and explains The Doctor’s Granddaughter in 1963…

Anyway, it was THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE wasnt it? To watch I mean, and dont you think the Series has really developed and regained itself after the first Matt Smith-Series.

Now we’ve got, IMO, a fully fledged and re-established series going here, and the public will be a hell of alot more supportive and accepting of the series under Steven Moffats productive era, in good time. 😉

BTW, the Cybermen were in it, for a bit. It was only a small part, but it was a good part none the less. (proper, Alien Cybers this time)

no they wernt. They were cybus cybermen with a little redesigned cybus logo. MOffat has taken an invincible classic bad guy and turned them into paper soldiers that get blown up for NO reason at all. Rory would have been converted in past series. Series 5 was MILES better than this mini series. But then again, this doesnt feel like dr who anymore. Forget the LOOOONG story arcs spanning two years and get back to good ole simple story telling that anyone can watch and enjoy in its isolation without a comprehensive back history to be needed to get whats happening. (still…to each his/her own as they say). I have to say SARAH JANE ADVENTURES, (R.I.P elizabeth) is closer to the ethos of dr who than dr who is at the moment.
