Brilliant episode, and unexpectedly, a Sontaran with a sense of humour [ well, that’s what i thought atleast ], but not only that, but a walking talking baked Potato that can Breast Feed ???? . . . . disturbing 🙁 . River’s revelation wasint big on me thou, since other fan’s had rather guessed allready that there was some sort of connection between Amy and River cos of the names ” River ” and ” Pond “.

” Let’s kill Hitler ” does seem a rather harsh title, Doctor Who isint about the Doctor killing people after all. The title best be changed before episode 8 gets broadcast.

    1) If Melody did belong to the doctor because of the time lord DNA. River (melody) kissed her father. EWWWWWWWW!!!
    2) I wonder why we didn’t see the Cybermen apart from the first 4 minutes at the start.

Rory is Rivers father not the Doctor.
The baby has had Time Lord DNA syphered into her DNA, possibly as she was concieved whilst Amy and Rory were travelling through the time vortex on the TARDIS or possibly as the baby has had he DND tampered with by Madame Kovarian. These are further questions that need to be answered in part 2.

(sorry in advance for the long read 😛 Had a lot to say :P)

      1) Melody is NOT the Doctor’s child. It would be wrong in so many ways and would stir up a bunch of moral issues Doctor Who would not want to cause. (the Doctor kissing and probably eventually more with his daughter?!? The concept that the Doctor would sleep with Amy, his good friend, thus betraying Rory, another good friend)

The whole purpose of the dialogue sequence between the Silurian woman and the Doctor was to explain how Melody was a time lord born from two humans (Rory and Amy). Though even then they might be a little more than human while obviously not being time lords. It has been shown time and time again that long term contact with the time vortex via the Tardis has side effects. Major such as the Bad Wolf/Rose and Donna/Doctor Donna examples. But minor effects could simply mean that Rory and Amy have “time energy” (i forget what the technical term was) in minor contact at all times, thus causing the child to have a slightly different DNA patern (part time lord) examples of this are hinted at:

-During the Silurian and Doctor dialogue in which they say that it has to do with the baby being concieved while passing through the time vortex
-Amy’s fear of her baby having a TimeHead because of her travels through the time vortex
-the Doctor’s intense reaction to the idea that Rory and Amy might have concieved the baby a little after their marriage IMPLYING that the foetus growth would have happend during their travels.
-The Doctor mentions something about it being impossible because it would take centuries for a human to develope the Time Lord Gene. BUT Amy’s child was growing inside of her while she traveled through time. Time being different in the Tardis, she did travel from the begining of time to the end of time or a litle in between that length, implying that she has traveled through… You guessed it!… hundreds of years.

I highly doubt that Madame Kovarian would have had to do anything at that moment, considering Melody probably would already have had all of the necesary elements. She might, on the other hand have helped the birthing process, it being probably traumatic and dificult for a meer human. This might explain why the Doctor told her to “breath only when she (Madame Kovarian) tells you to”.

      2) This one’s tricky but I gather that the intro sequence implies that the Doctor destroyed the major part of their fleet and then killed off the remaining few. Implying that the Doctor really has gone slightly mad and violent and/or the Cybermen are going soft. Not necesarily the writers best move, but interesting concept none the less. Like the Daleks I feel they will come back, just a little more scared/angry, a little more careful in their approach. The Doctor is getting a little more vengeful, but as River implied, its causing a pretty big anger on the part of his enemies too. I mean who would be mad enough to steal the Doctor’s friend’s child (also his maybe wife) other than all of his biggest enemies majorly pissed off and scared? They failed when they allied to imprison him, they thought of the next best thing: Attack his companions and loved ones. Its been done before and it usually works damned well!

Argh! I guessed everything right in this episode…! I was hoping for a big suprise ‘you’ll never guess that’ Mofatt ending, but no, it all played out as I thought it would. *sigh*. The River reveal was kinda obvious…

The only thing that suprised me was the baby’s name – Melody. That’s my name heh heh! 😀 (…I was just stoked to hear Matt Smith same ‘my’ name lol).

    *Spoiler speculation follows*

Thinking back, I still think that River may not be in the first spacesuit, since she seemed suprised to see it in the Impossible Astronaut, and the ‘good man’ she ‘kills’ and is jailed for (likely accidently) could actually be referring to Rory, since Mofatt seems to have gone out of his way to label him as ‘good’ and he’s becoming quite a hero to many…
I’m also still curious to whether River in the end actually has a relationship with the Doctor or the/a Doctor ganger… that will depend on which Doctor actually died in ep 1, as that’s the one she knew (they swapped diaries in the cafe).

Many suprises to come no doubt… in what’s going to be an epic long wait until the conclusion of the series.

This was disappointing….And inappropriate for children.I mean the Doctor is fooling around with someone he knows as a baby? Eww.

Riversong’s big reveal ,was bland and well odd.Read above.

You never understood what the war was about ,what they wanted the child for ,and what on earth was the purpose of the Headless Monks?

How come the Doctor doesn’tjust ask the Jailers who Riversong killed ?Or Google her on the InterGlactic Internet.I mean this has got to be the dumbest doctor yet! Doctor Who is supposed to be smart!

I’m not watching this again and children are going to feel uncomfortable. This is not a children’s show anymore.

What do you mean TardisBlue? Just because YOU weren’t able to comprehend the episode, AND it wasnt what YOU in particular wanted, means that it’s rubbish?

What he war was about, what they wanted the child for and why they were headless monks, is all IN the episode. Maybe the madness/craziness of the series plot.etc is too much for your viewing appetites, you cant expect to understand the story without imaginative viewing. 😐

“I mean the Doctor is fooling around with someone he knows as a baby? Eww.”

Why’s that a problem? It’s a bit like saying it’s wrong to fool around with someone you were friends with as a child, and it’s not like the Doctor is physically an old man by the time he and River have their relationship. To be honest I think the assertation that this was inappropriate says far more about your thought processes than it does about Steven Moffatts. No child would even pick up on it.

I don’t fully get it. If Riversong is Melody Pond (how clever of the writer) and she’s PARTLY TIMELORD then does that mean Riversong herself is a bit of a timelord?

❓ She WAS the Doctor’s wife, countless time ago when he conceived children and became a fathering Timelord? ❓ WOW

What strikes me is the amount of information and story development that is contained in most of the dialogue and interaction, so you really do have to pay attention. this can have it’s positive and negative sides. Having said this the overarching story lines give an extra dimension to each episode and adds to the complexity of the characters and their relationships.

A Good Man is an example of well thought through script writing and storytelling. Matt Smith did an excellent job as usual and is truly a Doctor of the Hartnell and Troughton mould. This episode still leaves some ends to be tied up but that adds to the depth of story, universe and relationships.

One criticism however of all season 6; slow down, allow the information to rest with the viewers so that they can assimilate the story and understand exactly what is happening from dialogue to dialogue.

I Thought That Not Many Questions Were Answered In That Episode, And Alot Will Be Answered In Ep.13, It Was Interesting How Melody Pond, Is Basically River Song (Song=Melody, Pond=River) But I’ve Been Thinking, First Of All, How Is The Baby A Time Lord, How Is River Songs Name ‘River Song’, Where Is The Baby, Who Is The Little Girl? And Also, Things Happen In One Episode, And Then Everything Kind Of Works Like It, For Example, We Only Just Met The Flesh, And Then, We Found Out That Amy’s One, But How Could Anybody Suspect It, And We Didn’t Know That The Baby Was Called Melody, So How Could We Connect It To River Song?

Over complicated and a story that bounced one way and the other without ever settling into a single narrative. Sorry to say, as a lifelong Who fan, this was not the most enjoyable episode and way too similar to last season’s finale. Bringing in old monsters to do battle is becoming all too banal and predictable. How younger fans are meant to follow this kind of storyline I have no idea – and that could be Doctor Who’s eventual downfall. Production staff be warned … don’t alienate your viewing base.

stephen moffat promised the biggest cliff hanger ever. WOW Riversong is Amy’s daughter. we’d all guessed that anyway. why was riversong so adamant about hiding her ‘secret’ from the Doctor since series 4 and not Amy. i always assumed that the big reveal would be about her relation to the Doctor hence all of this ‘hello sweetie’ and whispering the doctors name in his ear. The episode was bril but the cliff hanger didnt really work that well. also moffat says that something will be revealed that would make you say ‘oh yeah’ what was that?

So how come River is Amy and Rory’s baby? She didn’t recognise Rory. I mean who could forget their dad when they saw him recently? And ‘Melody Williams’ translate to ‘River Song’. ‘Melody Pond’ would work out but why use your maiden name for your baby? Lastly, the little girl is ment to be Melody so how can she regenerate? Amy and Rory aren’t time lords. This just chanes the way I see River-well I call her Melody now.

Because the doctor always calls Rory Mr Pond. And it is discussed when the Dr first meets the baby he calls her Melody Pond. When Rory and Amy get married he calls them Mr and Mrs Pond, because the doctor see Amy as the dominant person in their relationship.

Following an awful series 5, series 6 has been a huge improvement. Sadly, episode 7 was a let down and not worth the hype. The strong plot of a kidnapped companion, her baby and Kovarian (possibly the most wasted character in the series 48 year history) was just not delivered. Events should have concentrated on the Monks and the Clerics taking orders from Kovarian … why do they insist on rolling out old monsters too?? Silurians?? In space?? A Sontaran nurse??? nonsense. Ep 7 was a let down, lets hope part 2 gets back ontrack.

Totally agree with what you said about the eye patch lady, she was really fascinating throughout the series now, it seems she has no part, like the writers forgot who the character was so changed it. Maybe in LETS KILL HITLER (wtf)

I agree Justininferno that last night show was a let down. The best episode i like was with the tardis as a human i thought that was brillant well done Neil Gaiman. Russell T Davies has got to come back writing for doctor who. The ratings from last series and this series have been poor. When Russell T Davies had the show his ratings for the show was sky high he needs to come back to write for doctor who if not i can see the show been taken of air again and want be back anymore. Russell T Davies is a brillant writer.

Great episode – best series so far….by miles. Finally we have a head writer that has brough WHO into the 21st century without losing the feel of what we have all loved about the show since 63.

Every other actor has ‘played’ the Doctor and some have played him well….but Matt Smith IS the Doctor…he will be hard to replace…lets hope he has a long run 🙂

Let’s hope not. Matt Smith does not get the Doctor at all. . He may pretend to be, but he’s not. The Doctor requires an actor who can do drama, Matt Smith cannot.

Not a great episode- meandering. Not a great series. Moffat certainly thinks highly of himself, but has not delivered. If he thinks a revelation is a cliffhanger, he should go look it up in a dictionary.

The title for episode 8 Let’s Kill Hitler -seriously? Let’s not. Worst ever title for an episode.

      Thats your opinion.

I think you are probably missing the point on the title of the next show…I think its refering to what most people say when they are asked, ‘if you could go back in time, what would you do…?’ I suspect it will be more about timey wimey stuff than actually killing Hitler.

Matt Smith and Steven Moffat certainly divide the DW fans. I have watched the show since 1978 and can honestly say this is the best series I’ve seen and MS is the best Doctor I’ve watched…of course that just my opinion.

In regards to Mad Dalek, why slag off the RTD stuff? He brought us some grand seasons and stories. Why slag off one era when comparing it to another? Thats one thing I hate about Doctor Who fans in general, always slating whats gone before. Just enjoy it for what it is. Everyone has a favourite Doctor and era, season and producer etc there is no need to slate non stop.

Chris, I’m not sure what you’ve been watching while Dr Who’s been on but it clearly hasnt been Season 6 of Dr Who ! This has been one of the best constructed series since the show’s return, Moffat is a skillled writer and Matt Snith has made the best of these amazing scripts and IS the Dr !

This is how Doctor Who SHOULD be….RTD got it all wrong in my opinion, but some of his stories were enjoyable.
Moffat is a genius writer, and places a lot of twists and turns in his scripts. Unlike RTD who wrote predictable, soap-like story lines in which the Doctor is running down a street crying towards his loved one (Rose)….

You can tell that RTD was completely concerned with ratings and popularity, he kept using old monsters for big episodes and there was never a series without the Daleks. Moffat is a genius writer with much more complex episodes that make it a much more layered show and Matt Smith is by far the best Doctor, Tennant became a super hero or a Jesus when he was floating above the master of falling through skylights and the Doctor shouldn’t be a Super Hero or Jesus.

I agree. RTD, come back, all is forgiven.

Everyone i speak to at my work place (big hospital) say they have stopped watching Doctor Who since Tennant left and that the new Doc isnt as good and that the stories are becoming too complex to follow. Is Moff alienating the general public? Now that is not my opinion, thats Joe Public speaking. I loved the RTD era and Tennant is defo my favourite Doctor but i wont slag off the Moff era because everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Just seems Doctor Who fans are vicious and have to slate off the era they dont like. That has never changed. Its the one bit of fandom i hate.
