What did you Think of Asylum of The Daleks?

What did you Think of Asylum of The Daleks

The first episode of series 7a has finally aired so what did you think?, was it the best episode ever or just average. Vote below.

Matt Smith returns as the oldest time-traveller in the universe. The Time Lord, Amy and Rory are kidnapped by their oldest foe the Daleks and forced on a seemingly impossible mission – to enter the Asylum, a planetary prison confining the most terrifying and insane of the deadly aliens’ kind.

From the official site…

Steven Moffat, Head Writer and Executive Producer, thanked fans and the press for keeping the secret:

β€œI hope you all got a nice surprise when Jenna popped up in Doctor Who several months early. If so, that surprise came to you courtesy of the frankly magnificent ladies and gentlemen of the press, and of the many Doctor Who forums and blogs too. This show has been seen at four separate screenings, across four different countries and yet not one person gave one spoiler. From all of us on Doctor Who, a heartfelt thank you for helping us tell our story.”

That was a fantastic episode by my standard and was amazing written, and im sure it has scared some younger children which is good
Now the lack of classic Daleks was a bit of let down but still those mad daleks and the props were amazing the end was a massive bombshell 1 being oswins story which im sure will evole and will all amke total sense soon and 2nd being the daleks forgetting the Doctor now some people may frown upon this and that is understandable from some points of view but now they can build on to better stories for the Daleks and can bring them in more of a sinister way as performed tonight im also sure there is a Dalek that still remembers him so be prepared for the best πŸ™‚

It was good. But this annoyed me. The classics never spoke, when I heard the mention of Spiridon and Exilon I was excited, The Doctor turns the corner and of they are all NSD design. What a lie it didn’t contain every single type of dalek at all!!!! And this annoyed me the most The Special Weapon Dalek didn’t move at all!!

I agree with Anonymous. It fairness thou Whovian, we can be satisfied, it’s just that we don’t like things mucked around when it comes to continuity and such.

Takes yesterdays cock up. Oswin said the Daleks in the cages came from Spiridon, Kembel etc, but they are Time War Daleks, only classic Daleks featured in the stories the planets got mentioned.

      September 3rd, 2012 - 4:02am

People on sites like You Tube have used CGI for Dalek designs going back to William Hartnell.

“Every Dalek ever” means exactly that if being said to the real Whovians (of whom Moffat claims to be) or thats like a breach of the Trade Descrptions Act.

Guess that might become more literally true in any future remastered version.

I can imagine the Doctor and Clara talking in the Xmas special

CLARA: What happened to your little friends? The Scottish one and Nina?

    DOCTOR: Don’t. Just don’t.

    CLARA: What?

DOCTOR: I lost them. Just like everyone else. I knew it would happen. I sent them home. I came back for them, I knew I shouldn’t. But they were like family to me. I lost them. Just like I will with you.

    CLARA: I’m sorry?

    DOCTOR: Never mind. -walks off-

Also Moffat said after the titles we will meet a haracer who is very important to the first let of the series, so maybe she comes back. Also Jenna has seemed to imply she would be back very soon…..

Moffat should never write a Dalek story every again. He clearly lied about featuring ever Dalek ever just to get more viewers, and he should never have has Oswin erase the Daleks memories of the Doctor.

Now that I agree with πŸ™‚

If it was me who wrote last nights episode, I would have made sure it was possible to feature every incarnation of the classic Daleks before writing the episode, if not then I would not have bothered.

If I was to write a story featuring every incarnation of the Cybermen, I would do it, maybe in some sort of space museum, and show each one in glass tubes standing up, but not moving, like shop window dummies [NOT AUTON’S]and show each one in close up, and the Doctor then comes face to face with Cybermen from every era who suddenly show up in this space museum.

      September 2nd, 2012 - 9:51am

if i did it the daleks would not be dusty the only one that stood out was special weapons and i think i saw a paradigm dalek

    • The 14th Doctor

      September 2nd, 2012 - 10:03am

I think that they all might come back in the 50th or another episode. Moffat dosen’t want to use his new Telytubby team too much, so I think he’ll just use all the designs.

    • whofan4ever

      September 3rd, 2012 - 5:51pm

so lets think of another way to impliment all of the daleks without ripping apart the time-space continum. Moffat wrote this very well and the idea of having every dalek made sense since there always would be war survivors from every era of daleks. The reason there was so many bronze ones was because they were the daleks used during the time war. Why the special weapons dalek was there makes no sense to me because there was one of those(if im correct) and the chances of that one surviving is pretty minimal. There was a few different daleks in ‘intensive care’ if you looked hard enough

My mum complained about how it was a bit too slick and perfect. Which I thought sounded a bit weird. But then she said that it had “Lost it’s Britishness” which I actually agreed with. I think the beeb is thinking too much about the American viewers (no offence to any Americans) rather than focusing on the British viewership and the British nature of the show. It did feel just a little bit too Hollywood.

Why did moffat let people bully him into bringing the bronzies back! I think the paradigm could have been great in this episode, and bringing the short teapots back just made it that one bit less scary. i don’t care if poeple don’t like the colours, you would have realised had he let there be a room of red drones.
Other than that, I loved the episode. The new companion looks great aswell, and I am getting a little tired of Amy’s ‘Generic Feistyness’.

I just think that had we all givin him a chance, moffat could of unleashed the true force of the paradigm. Things do change, and I would argue that the paradigm are also true to the originals. One Eyestalk, One Extermination gun, One Manipulator Plunger, two bulbs, many domes… it’s all there as far as I can tell! πŸ˜€

    • The 14th Doctor

      September 2nd, 2012 - 2:59pm

Yh I know mate, you are entitled to your opinion, but in all seriousness, what is there to love about the Paradigms? They would sort of work if they had less vibrant colours, lost the hunchback, and the middle section was sorted out, but as they are they just look like a joke. However if I were Moffat, I would keep them, but I’d have them as like an elite class, leaving the Bronze ones as the foot soilders.

    • The Moffat Paradox

      September 4th, 2012 - 12:16am

Steven Moffat also said something about giving the Daleks an “officer class” in the Paradigms and I agree that the design is faithful to the classic lineage.

I personally would have had only Paradigms outside of the others in the Asylum.

I think there is no real point to the Paradigms unless your going to be resolute that they now ARE the Daleks!

Thought the point was it’s supposed to be an upgrade in overall Dalek capabilities.

“You think the unclean that called themselves Daleks were bad.Wait to you see us at work”.

      That’s how they get accepted.

For that reason I also thought the new design when first seen in Victory was also supposed to be a statement of revitalised power.

Reminiscient to me of when the Romulans return in STNG with their new and more powerful D’deridex Class Warbirds and say very assertively to Captain Picard:

      “We are back!”

  • John Smith

    September 2nd, 2012 - 7:12am

Steven Moffat is driving the series into the ground. He is becoming the next John Nathan Turner just like Lee Adams posted before. I’ve had enough of his over complicated story plots and random plot twists just for the sake of keeping people hooked on the show for the next 5 minutes. He’s going to stuff up the 50th Anniversary and the BBC should give him the sack before the show gets canceled like it did in the 80’s. The show has all the right actors and all the right fan support but the stories are letting the series down and so are Mr Moffat’s decisions. I would of thought that the late 80’s was a perfect example of what happens when you screw something like Doctor Who up which is exactly what Moffat has done. He wrote some good stories during the RTD era. The Empty Child, the Doctor Dances, the Girl in the fire place, Blink and not to forget Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead. They were all my favorite stories from that particular era of Doctor Who. Bring Russel T Davies back! Asylum of the Daleks is a perfect example of how to screw things up. So whos with me? That’s my daily rage face for today.

Doctor Who just gets better and better!

Hopefully this ends up being another explosive Doctor Who year in America. Last year, the show was the best selling tv show on the American iTunes charts and helped make bbc America the fastest growing prime time and all day network compared to all other American networks.

The show has also come a long way in terms of visual and special effects since Steven Moffat took over.

Steven Moffat has made the show darker and more appealing. I can definatly say that this is by far the best Dalek episode of the revived series.

Finally, who agrees with me that since the Wedding of River Song, Steven Moffat has been effectively rebooting the last 50/1100 years of Doctor Who?

I liked the episode and glad the bronze daleks came back as I CAN’T STAND the new “rainbow race” but sort of confused how the bronze ones came back. Also was it dalek caan or some other weirdo???

Oh and did anyone else realise that the asylum daleks in intensive care didn’t have any exterminator guns so all they really could have done to the doctor was to suck the life out of him!

DOC-TOR WHO?! This episode is fantastic, and replaced Remembrance of the Daleks as my most favorite story ever! My only problem is the lack of classic Daleks, but still, it doesn’t detract from the overall story in any way

I found it rather disappointing. First off i found it very predictable that Souffle girl was a Dalek. Second, I didn’t like the fact that the dales were actually begging the doctor for help. It is just so not them. Third, the fact of rory and Amy wanting a divorce really surprised me because if the fact that they spent such a long time together, had a child together and rory waited for Amy for over 2000 years. Finally, I didn’t really understand why the daleks wanted to destroy the asylum. Don’t they promote hatred and want to exterminate all but themselves? And at the end they lose all memory of the doctor which just makes them going after him in future episodes pointless. Not your best work mr. Moffat.

The mystery of how she made the souffle and how she had the knowledge to hack daleks made her humanness a bit shady to me at first. And finally if you take a closer look at the shape of the room she was in, it was a dead giveaway that she is in a Dalek. I much preferred last season’s premiere

I thought she was going to be a Dalek Human thing, I wasn’t expecting her to be a proper Dalek

Mmmm lots of daleks, a prime minister? Human daleks created by nano bots (the cybermen did that sort of thing in Real Time 6 dr audio so not new, the humans kept their humanity in that too) over all dalek stories are never in a linear order they are time travelers too, the chase (1st dr) showed that. ultimatley they stratgey obsessed, cold logic with cause and effect, they play the long game. i would suggest everyone listen to the dalek war audios and you’ll get where mr moffat is going with it. i think with the 50th comming up dr who is going to go with a full circle rather than an arcing story, we are going to end up in a scrap yard in 1963 next november offering a question to his first, ultimate and original incarnation “this is what you will become, it’s up to you”

I looked very closely and it isn’t shut it’s wide open hmm so from that scene we gather two things
1: Amy or Rory can fly the tardis as as soon as the doctor gets in it dematerialises
2: the doctor now leaves the door wide open. In flight! LOL
