Omg I cannot believe that they killed off Osgold. She was literally the embodiment of all fangirl/guys in the world and one of my all time favourite characters and I can’t believe she is dead. She better find a way to come back…

      November 9th, 2014 - 12:58pm

I was just making a joke on marvels Agents of SHEILD. I mean in the avengers the fanboy died, is similar to how osgood (the fangirl in which most of us would easily fit into her shoes, as a totally geeky and obsessive fan) was swiftly killed off in the same quick and cruel fashion. If there’s some people who are not marvel fans here or have not seen the avengers, then this would probably sound like gibberish. Speaking of marvel, those cybermen were so iron man when flying.

If they did make a show on UNIT, then it would probably be very similar to torchwood. However unlike torchwood, theres not really much you could do with it. Unless you include cyber brig, which I thought was a bit tragic for the character.

      November 9th, 2014 - 3:59pm

Well to carry on with Chiefdaleking’s theme S.H.I.E.L.D has (or had) it’s”Sandbox”:a secure facility for holding dangerous individuals with superpowers and banned technologies (some of it alien) which was used to bring agent Phil Coulson back to life.

In DOTD we learned that UNIT had it’s “Dark Vault” (or whatever) containing alien technologies that even the Doctor wasn’t supposed to know about. So maybe they could use something in that to bring back someone even from ashes just killed or have something like a backup of her engrams to go into a rapidly grown clone.

That or there’s the old she has a twin sister with the same skill set ploy.

Oh, and great episode by the way.

Did you notice that Danny came from the “Chaplet funeral home” (As in Dodo Chaplet) and that scene (with the banging on the morgue doors) also seemed to be channelling the TV movie…?

Missy as the Master is just brilliant, I’m already used to her being a woman now. I loved how evil she was in this episode. Killing Seb and Osgood was a bit of a shock though but I’m glad Kate survived. Missy’s Mary Poppins impression was fantastic, she was even doing the feet as she flew with the umbrella.

Danny as a cyberman actually totally redeemed an otherwise dull character The cybermen were very cool too, their new voice is such an improvement and the flying looks fantastic. Great idea. I would’ve like to see the cybermen killing and upgrading a few people.

The end of the episode was a bit of an anticlimax, I really wanted Missy to escape in her Tardis and take a few of the Cybermen with her, so we know they’re going to return.

Peter Capaldi is wonderful, he’s already made the part his own.

I want series 9 to be less childish than this season was. More deaths, more tension, more cliff hangers more monsters and aliens, more alien worlds and more of the Doctor saving the day and not the assistant!

After last weeks episode (the best of the cliffhangers in my opinion) I was really looking foraward to the final instalement tonight. I am very dissapointed with most of it. The Master being female now is just wrong, totally wrong. What happened to the globe in St Pauls Cathedral? Where did the Brigadier Cyberman fly off to? The fact that no-one noticed the tardis vanish in the shopping mall at the end? How did Danny bring that kid over from the ‘other side’? AND alas another xmas episode with a santa. We do not want childish episodes anymore. Give us some decent scary and slightly amusing tales of the doctor PLEASE! oh and get rid of that squeeling noise in the theme tune.

On the plus side some great performances from some of the cast. I have enjoyed Mr Capaldis’ version of the Doctor and looking forward to him searching for Gallifrey in series 9.

My favourite series finale since series 2.

I liked all the subtle references to the past. And I liked the idea that the brig saved kate from falling to her death.

I hate how Osgood died but it may have been the zygon version of her from the 50th.

Danny as a cyberman was incredible so sad, but loved how he saved the day. I still think however danny will be back somehow and clara and him will live happily ever after.

The ending however was extremely odd what with clara and the doctor lying to each other, and shockingly the doctor beating the holy hell out of the tardis (beginning of the valeyard?)

Not to keen on the idea of santa in an episode though to be honest

It’s high time for some new talent. I am finding these series finales very formulaic. The idea was fine, just that the narrative is hurried along to try and lever everything in for the conclusion. Every season finale has a situation that is catastrophic for the Earth, that is miraculously undone in just a few minutes.
I think Capaldi has that strange quality that will put him up with Tom Baker – if the scripts are good. Don’t get me wrong, there have been some great moments this year, it’s definitely being nudged into darker territories…

he only writes about 4 episodes of a series for goodness sake their are other writers aswell

  • Big D

    November 8th, 2014 - 9:42pm

    Excellent premise but poorly realised.
The episode itself had tremendous potential and should have allowed the Doctor to really shine. However the writing, direction and editing, again, let Capaldi down. It felt rushed and bitty as they crammed far too much into its runtime.
The denoument, so to speak, was a let down and felt abit of a copout (perhaps the writers realised they only had an hour and needed to bring an ending in at some point).
However… Missy was brilliant. MG played her to perfection. I trust that we shall see her return in the near future. It was sad that we didnt get to see more of her with the Doctor. If we had, Im sure with MG and PC, the screen would have sizzled.
Hopefully with Clara gone (fingers crossed) It will return to being the Doctor Who show. Though I do think its time for SM to stand down. Anyway, roll on Santa……

Great build up last week, lots of tension. The new Cyberman voice is a much needed improvement.
Sadly the final episode dives straight back into the realms of utter phantasmagoria.
When Danny puts the young guy through the portal, only enough power for one, where from? How? He was dead right? How is he now able to this? On top of already being dead he just flew up to ignite the cyber cloud!!!
How can this show sustain any real tension if the every situation can be undone with this non sensical writing that has no boundaries?
I do believe Peter Capaldi is a very convincing Doctor, but the stories need some grounding.

I don’t think gallifrey is back I think when missy said gallifreys back where it belongs I think she meant that it was back where it was originally (destroyed in the time war) and that’s why the doctor was so mad because he opened the TARDIS door and there was nothing there

    • Sid Rat

      November 8th, 2014 - 10:38pm

Yep, nothing there when the Tardis door opened. It is a shame the Doctor didn’t regenerate, I don’t rate him as the Doctor at all (sorry CJ). Glad to hear Clara is in the Christmas special. Nick Frost in Christmas special, he never appears without Simon Pegg…return of ‘The Editor’!!

  • Dalek Supreme

Disappointingly average, but a fitting end for an otherwise average series.
Cybermen were pointless, just a background, and somehow even MOAR stupid since their regeneration (?) in Nightmare in Silver. UNIT guys also pointless, just to prove haw ‘bananas!’ Missy was (More on that later). Clara is still only written as ‘be sad all the time constanly’, which is a shame cuz Coleman’s not a bad actress. Danny ‘Plot device’ Pink was still dreary, with a preset personalty chosen from Moffat’s ‘Writing for Dummies’ book.

Gomez as Missy is, interesting. She’s got the whole ‘completely bonkers’ thing, which is good, but she doesn’t have the INSANITY of Simm’s Master. Simm’s was insane, but also kinda sad at the same time. Missy is just kind of an evil ‘cuz I can’.

Last 5/10 ish minutes good, Capaldi good as ever. But still just so…MEH. 5/10

Agreed completely with everything you say EXCEPT for your views on Missy.
I thought Michelle Gomez’s performance was brilliant and brought a far more subtle and therfore more dangerous threat than the manically over the top performance of John Simm.
This was brought to the fore in the lead up and the eventual killing of Osgood. And the way she moved from the ‘sweet and vulnerable’ Missy into the cold blooded killer was brilliant. If she had been allowed more screen time and conflict with the Doctor, then Im sure you would have a different opinion of her.

Erm……I’m not sure what to think to be honest I loved the cybermen emerging from graves but I would have loved to see some cybermen killing people. overall it was very good….. But please Moffat please do not try and fob me off with a Santa clause story, North Pole and Santa makes me feel like we’re going to get a magical Santa story which doctor who really doesn’t need.

I would have loved the doctor to find gallifrey and see that it was burning or something or everyone was slaves to the master and then the Christmas episode carried on from that but I can’t have it all

In all the 50 years Doctor Who has been airing, “Death In Heaven” is now my all time favourite episode!!!!! There was a great plot, great supporting cast, great music and some really shocking moments!!!! The Tribute (s) to Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge Stewart were amazing! The picture of him onboard the plane was a real tear jerker for me, because he was one of my favourite classic companions! We also got to see him as a Cyberman, which I saw as our last goodbye to Nicholas Courtney in the Whoniverse. I Cant believe Osgood is dead!! I hate you Moffat!! And when Kate “died”, I cried as she is a great character! Thank god she isn’t dead though. Clara is now gone and I thought it was the right time to let her go. When The Doctor was falling through the air, I was on the edge of my seat because that scene was so epic! Michelle Gomez Portrayed The Master Perfectly, so hats off to her. Overall, I give “Death In Heaven” a 10/10 because it was everything I want in a Doctor Who episode. And the mid credit scene has now been introduced into the Whoniverse! Santa Claus is here! And did we all see the christmas special trailer after the episode???

Nothing particularly against Osgood as a character but if you were at all shocked at her being killed by the Master and thought it at all sinster I think good.Your supposed to be at all shocked and find that at all sinster because that’s more in the spirit of classic Who going back to when the character was first played by Roger Delgado.

Thought on first viewing it DIH was good if not excellent in what I and others think is the best series since 2005.Only criticism is it’s a tad disappointing we don’t see the Cyber army really doing that much mayhem or having the chance to show off their new abilities as in “The Nightmare In Silver” even if UNIT and the forces of earth present little (short of resorting to nuclear weapons) real threat to them.Thats often the problem with these big dramtic build ups though.

P.S. Still dont buy the Cybermen delegating leadership over themselves without some power of veto and in the classic series it was always extremely peririlous to underestimate them.1
