I found “The Caretaker” more interesting for the relationship between Clara and Pink, rather anything to do with how the Doctor saved the world. I didn’t even realize that’s what he was trying to do, the “alien”, was just secondary.

This epsode was ok but the skovox blitzer look awesome and he looked like a droideka but He didn’t get enough screen time and that was taken away from the clara and danny stuff which I didn’t really like

I was disappointed that Clara said “no” when asked by Pink if she loved the Doctor. Broke my heart. An ok episode. A tad rushed. I never really understood what that alien thing was all about. Again with the “heaven” at the end. Moffat better tie this all up good.

    My God, I hate Clara!
I’m finding it difficult to like Capaldi because he gets less screen time than Clara! I loved Time Heist because Clara wasn’t a major part of the episode. I despised Listen and Robot of Sherwood for the exact opposite reason. She was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too central a character.
The purpose of the companion is to make the Doctor look clever and ask him the questions the audience would. Moffat doesn’t get that. He uses Clara as the clever one, the Doctor as the sidekick and Danny/Rory as the companion.
Gareth came unstuck at the same point he did in The Lodger and Closing Time. The monster was a side-effect of love. Craig + Sophie, Craig + Stormageddon, Clara + Danny. In The Lodger the Autopilot Avatar was pathetic, in Closing Time the Cybermen were insulted (although I loved the Cybermats) and in this… It was kind of cool but about as threatening as an upside down tortoise to anyone who isn’t that unfortunate policeman.

I agree with you completely and have said the same thing on here on numerous occassions.

The sad thing is that I actually like Clara as a companion but there is no way she should be the focus of the show.

Capaldi needs to be allowed to shine as the Doctor and if the writers allow him the time to do so could become one of the best Doctors we’ve seen (though as an oldie Id quite like him to slow down abit as I now miss some of the dialogue).

Ridiculous!!! Why should the bloke get all the screen time this is exactly what we need a young girl with alot to say on her part. She wants to show that she isn’t just a companion she plays a key role in the doctor’s timeline and Moffat does this beautifully.

Everyone has the right to their own opinions. Telling them to go away, however ungrammatically, is unfair. I love Peter Capaldi as the doctor, there have been some brilliant moments, I like the dark tone and the Doctor’s fury. But…I do think the writing overall has been less than brilliant, the pace has been languid. We are all in this forum because we love the show, but something is lacking this year in my opinion.

I don’t have any problem with people who dislike the new series… So long as they are willing to say why, and accept that people do like it. This area is for sharing your opinion, not degrading other people’s. It’s a comments section, not an open forum.

I personally quite enjoy this series so far; it’s not my favourite but I think it’s shaping up well. And while I may point out areas that I dislike (like that scene in the barn in Listen – grrrr) my outlook is generally quite positive – we could have nothing! There really should be more positivity in fandom, but that’s not to say people shouldn’t voice negative opinions.

We are not haters , we just see the quality of the scripts has really fallen . We want the show to succeed, not fall away into oblivion as it did before by lame scripts , let Sherlock be Sherlock , this is a time lord , wake up and give peter the scripts he deserves. Its not the actors at fault its the scripts, and special effect . The Tardis interior is the best yet, pity the scripts and special effects don’t match it . He has been given a new regeneration cycle , please give him the scripts to match ,every series should be better than the last. Evolving , not resting on its laurels . No one is knocking the show we aren’t bad boys , we care about the best sci fi show in history.

lone warrior you are my hero! I agree with you 100% I did find this episode a bit more entertaining than the rest, though. PC is relaxing into the role very nicely. You can see it in his body language. Too bad about Clara. Time to go. I wished that little girl could replace her. The chemistry between her and the Doctor was amazing! I now predict a bumpy ride till Christmas. A whopper of an ending. Clara bye-bye, and Season 9 stellar, but only if SM leaves — Doctor Who or Sherlock. It doesn’t matter which. But he has now proven he can’t do both… My two cents…

Was really excited when Capaldi was cast as the doctor. Thought he was a brill choice but now I’m Getting angrier with every episode. I’ts not Capaldi it’s all down to Steven Moffat and a team of writers stuck in the Matt Smith era which wasn’t my cup of tea (too young). Doctor Who’s in real danger of losing it’s way like it did back in the eighties. Too much lame comedy as well, Capaldi needs be allowed to shine as the doctor. Change the writers please.

I loved the Matt Smith era, and had every confidence in Moffat’s ability to Capaldi’s Doctor justice.

I feel that the Moff has betrayed me.

It’s like they’re trying too hard. Capaldi needs to be dark, brooding, brilliant. They’ve got him chasing after Clara! Please. I want to watch a genius Dr Who at work, not the ongoing love angst of his companion.

Well I have pretty well been disappointed with
What I have seen in this series. This episode
However was a bit better. No P0nds 2.
      Monster was rubbish. Glorified Dalek
in a wheelchair. However, as to the Danny Pink
character, I quote Mary Watson:” I like him..”

Was ecstatic with capaldi as new doc. Think writers still doing storylines for matt tho.Needs less comedy lots less & more new scary monsters & more of the doc. Too much emphasis on clara. Its Dr Who not the Adventures of Clara. Was promised doc would be less user friendly. Capaldi has great potential & this is being wasted on poor storylines.

Really, I just dont understand what Moffat is trying to do with the new Doctor. Every episode gives me another reason to dislike him, and this one just piled on a few more.

In this episode, he is gruff. He is rude. He is forgetful to the point of almost being ill (the bit about him not being able to retain that Mr. Pink is a Math teacher? What is with that?). He is clueless – not figuring out that Pink is the boyfriend. He hates humans. And he struggles quite hard to defeat a pretty lame alien.

Can anyone find even a single redeeming attribute for him here?

I’m hoping he decides soon to become a “good man” and all of this nonsense ends. I dont mind some seriousness – especially after the manic silliness of Matt Smith. But I want to like my Doctor. I dont like Capaldi, not one bit.

I can see where they WANT to go with Capaldi’s Doctor, but it’s like half the time they’re not even trying to go there with him. I don’t mind him being more distant and detached after four (five, counting John Hurt) emotional, more sentimental Doctors, but only as a front so his enemies won’t take advantage of his friendships with humans, like they did with the Fourth Doctor. Here, he comes across as a grumpy old man who doesn’t care, so it doesn’t make sense for him to be trying to save the Earth if he doesn’t care. Another problem is that most of the character’s ‘comedic’ moments come from scenes that look like they were written for the Eleventh Doctor, and while they almost certainly would have worked for Matt Smith, they don’t suit Peter Capaldi’s Doctor at all. At this rate, he’s more unbearable than the Season 22 Sixth Doctor. Don’t get me wrong, I think Peter Capaldi is a terrific actor, and even though he’s the replacement for my favorite Doctor, I defended him against the people who said he was too old or wasn’t right for the part. The problem is Steven Moffat. The superb writing he gave us from The Empty Child to A Good Man Goes To War seems to be gone. Although he’s written a few good stories, the only story I could consider TRULY great is The Day of the Doctor. I think the Twelfth Doctor COULD work, he just needs a different head writer.

I agree with both of you. The first episode was pretty good (even though they seemed to spend most of it trying to justify the choice of Capaldi), and the Doctor seemed a little quirkier, energetic and likable in that first episode.
From episode 2 though, it’s like the whole tone just shifted, and the Doctor sort of just became ‘some guy’ rather than the enigmatic Time Lord we have grown to love. I’m finding Clara far more interesting that the Doctor in this season… and that’s worrying. Capaldi is a great actor, but I agree the characterisation just doesn’t play to his strengths.
I also don’t understand why they seem to put at least one gruesome event or murder into nearly every episode… it just seems unnecessary brutal and jarring – disturbing rather than scary.
