  • The Dark Doctor (Formally Eternal Dalek)

Well, I’ve mixed opinions on this. I’d say it was a standard episode. It didn’t really imrove or worsen the Daleks.

The concept was new and interesting but perhaps slightly confusing to follow.

    I’m left asking:

Where did the Dalek come from?
What is it going to do now?
Is it still good or not?

It was great to see a more ‘classic’ Dalek invasion as such, but surely, one damaged Dalek, firing shot after shot isn’t really going to stand much of a chance against cix or seven in tact Dalek? They fired less frequently but never seemed to hit anyone or anything where as ‘Old Rusty’ hit everything!

Is it also just me or does the lighting make the Daleks look more Plastic than Metal? The Dalek Saucer’s interior is nothing compared to the old ones from series One to Four and what’s happened to that iconic Dalek music?

I’ve a theory about Danny Pink and Blue too. I think they’re both either Cybermen or some form of Cyber Slave, colours could be like ID numbers, remember, Daleks too have had names in the past…

That’s a good theory actually it would be good if more and more characters relating to colours are subtly introduced as the series goes on if your theory is right

what if heaven isn’t heaven what if heaven is a parrel universe and she is the rani taking people from one universe to another she is a scientist after all

or what if she is a parrel universe of the doctor but in the parrel universe he is a woman.

After watching the first two episodes, I feel that the new doctor ( Peter capaldi ) has ruined the name of the doctor by over acting, no energy , no mystery to the doctor. Like previous doctors they were energetic and lively and mysterious but this new doctor who is boring. If it carrys on the bbc could lose dr who fans.

I’m going to have to disagree with you there, Steven. I think that Capaldi was brilliant in that episode. I love it how he hardly even thought about the first death (not visibly anyway) and the final part with the Doctor and the Dalek (with the ‘beauty, divinity, hatred’ line) was fantastic! Superb acting! Everyone has their own opinions though. By the way, this is my first post on here. 🙂

      August 30th, 2014 - 9:22pm

Anonymous I have to agree with you, but Steven no don’t, just don’t. Capaldi is an outstanding actor and what a brilliant pick for the role as the Doctor! Yes he may not be young, energetic and lively but he is definitely mysterious. Every actor who has played the Doctor has their own personalty on the character and they’ve done a brilliant job! Do remember that William Hartnell was an old man but his Doctor was outstanding, he wasn’t young or energetic but he was the Doctor!

    • Gallifrey Will Rise Again

      August 30th, 2014 - 9:25pm

Peter capaldi is a much needed change of pace from the brilliant matt smith. If every doctor was portrayed the same it would become boring and more importantly regenerations would no longer be exciting because you’d be getting the same characteristics over and over. Peter capaldi is absolutely superb as the doctor, and the scary thing is he hasn’t even found his feet yet.

      August 30th, 2014 - 10:19pm

Capaldi is now one of my fave Doctors!
There, I’ve said it and I mean it!

    • Dalek The Supreme

      August 31st, 2014 - 3:43am

The Eleventh Doctor was full of eccentricity and energy to cover 1000 years of pain and guilt, which is why the Eleventh Doctor was my favorite, but the Twelfth Doctor, like any good Doctor, has to be different from his immediate predecessor. I like how he’s a darker, less emotional Doctor who’s so mysterious even he isn’t sure if he’s good or not. So far he’s shaping up to be a very good Doctor.

Well I have to say that in the first episode I nearly fell asleep within the first 20min..but then it picked up a bit. I know that they were trying to get across that he was a bit confused after regeneration but that really didn’t work for me at all and I felt it was a bit laboured and slow. The second episode was better well written and a good story.. having seen all the other doctors in the passed and loving them. I have to say I really am not sure about the new doctor at all. He is the suppose to be the savour of earth.. How can you do that if you are confused as to whether you are good or bad…what is that all about.. really!! for the most part I don’t like the darker side of this at all. I do agree that he does not seem to have the energy that a newer audience would gel too.. I will watch on as always and hope that I start to like him.. if not then can’t wait until he regenerates again… Sorry but at the moment he is not for me..(my first time on here too)..

I think since we have been with two very energetic doctors for almost ten years we have all forgot the serious and not very energetic doctors

Well just have to say another brilliant story by Moffat. The Dalek was an outstanding character, the way the Doctor reached into the Daleks mind was just brilliant. The Dalek’s were amazing they seemed more insane and battle ready. Capaldi what a legend an amazing pic to play the Doctor couldn’t ask for better! The story was brilliant it’s really lifted since series 5

To be honest, I quite enjoyed it.
Definitely an improvement from last week’s. Capaldi was really quite good, also better from last week. The marines were standard Dalek-fodder, but they weren’t too bad. Danny Pink wasn’t too bad either, with some good mystery in his character which I hope becomes something meaningful in Moffat’s grand scheme. Story was fairly solid, but could have done with some more development (more on that down below), and some quite good dialogue between the Doctor and the Marines.

There were only a few things I didn’t like about it really. The whole story side could have been fleshed out a bit I think. I thought ‘Resistance? That means there’s a fully fledged Dalek Empire! AWESOME!’. But, there wasn’t really much development in the story. Nothing was explained, and it could have really done with some of that.
Also, the Dalek voices kind of bugged me. They didn’t sound like normal Daleks of that type. More higher pitched rather than a mixed range of voices, like normal. I think their voices were missing a layer to their speech. It kinda felt they were yelling, rather than screaming.

But, I quite enjoyed it. No, it wasn’t quite a ‘good’ Dalek story (Look at Journey’s End, Dalek and the Parting of the Ways for a good Dalek story). I think they could have made that good Dalek the Metaltron, because it could fit the role. I think this episode was missing some scenes, especially on that MASSIVE Dalek ship and after the Doctor leaves.

Overall, it was alright, but the darker tone made it a bit better, and certainly an improvement on Deep Breath! 7/10

couple of edits to quick stuck out for me

a huge story to tell in 45 mins

Peter Capaldi in places brilliant – finding his feet

Danny pink – i think he will turn out to be excellent Character – obviously has a secret

      Clara superb throughout

seemed a bit disjointed – moments of cinematic quantity brilliance and shooting angles mixed in with average studio shots

overall one of the best episodes for a long time for me though
