Poll – What Did You Think of Rosa?
Now that the third episode of series 11 has aired what did you think? Was it everything you had hoped for or not what you expected.
Montgomery, Alabama. 1955. The Doctor and her friends find themselves in the Deep South of America. As they encounter a seamstress by the name of Rosa Parks, they begin to wonder whether someone is attempting to change history.

October 21st, 2018 - 10:13pmAmazing episode!
Only issue with it is that the Doctor didn’t use the Time/Space Visualiser from The Space Museum at the end.

October 21st, 2018 - 10:07pmUmmmmmmmm
The historical stuff was top notch
Jodie and Bradley are fantastic
but the villain’s plot and the doctor’s counter plot is just what let’s the episode down, the Doctor is changing history as much as the Villian is. So technically the doctor is messing stuff quicker.
I am a warrior of the Sevateem
October 21st, 2018 - 11:27pmThere’s a Pete Seeger song “If you miss me at the back of the bus … ” (Google it.) Captures the essence of this episode. Very strong messages and best on ever episode since “Father’s Day”. Look also at Star Trek “Let that be your last battlefield”. Discrimination in any form is abhorrent.

October 22nd, 2018 - 4:19amHow do you know she is changing History? Perhaps the Doctor and Companions were always meant to be there in the Dr Who Universe. Did History record any of the other people on the packed Bus? History doesn’t know if 4 people went back in time and quietly manipulated the events in Alabama which meant that the normal course of History was maintained. If you have an episode where they save Martin Luther King from assassination then we know they are changing history.
Discussing the effects of Time Travel gives me a Headache.
Does anyone else think we haven’t seen the last of the Time Traveling Criminal?

October 21st, 2018 - 10:01pmThree episode’s in and I’m struggling, Jodie feels like a weak Doctor to me totally lacking gravitas. Feels like a cheap rip off, but it was I persevere I owe it to myself to do so.
The episode itself was interesting but alas completely predictable making it a weak episode in my opinion. As for the music instead of the theam, well the less said about that the better.
TARDIS interior looks plastic and cheap, especially the console.
I will watch again and hopefully see something more positive, next week’s episode looks good, I love spiders.

October 21st, 2018 - 10:20pmSaid i haven’t anything else to say but I have to agree with you Pats86. I am really not enjoying the series so far. Not Doctor Who ……at all. Saving grace is I like Bradley Walsh.

October 21st, 2018 - 10:34pmJodie is becoming like I thought she would as the Doctor. Light weight and diet alien feel.

October 21st, 2018 - 11:08pmI understand you, you’re already hating it in your mind before it even airs therefore you’re bound to hate it.
The Moffat Paradox
October 22nd, 2018 - 6:57amWell so far Anonymous since this was fanfared to the world on 16th July 2017 those of us that hated this in our hearts and minds from the start from what we’ve seen aired to date are finding very little to really change our initial reaction and assessment and even if it’s so far not as altogether bad as might as been feared that does that does not on current form make it that good either. And you cant trade on the novelty factor for viewing figures in perpetuity and there are always will be people who will say they love something that the wider world finds, or begins to find, substandard if not just outright rubbish.
But if they can’t make a good stab of at least next weeks episode I’ll see that as THE REALLY BAD portent.
The Moffat Paradox
October 22nd, 2018 - 7:20amNo Pat86 were this is concerned you don’t owe anything to yourself. They owe loyalty to you as faithful viewer of this series not to too alienate you/us and if this in the longer run misfires without newer viewers to sustain it and stick with it they will reap what they have sowed if this is as about as generally good as it gets. But we have to get to episode 10 and maybe the Christmas special before we can start to conclude if this is trying to persevere with the unperseverable under the tenure of John Nathan Turner ; oh sorry I meant Chris Chibnall.

October 22nd, 2018 - 12:43pmWe will at least be able to do a Top Ten Jodie Whitaker stories at the end of only her first series. When I compile my top ten, I will mark each story out of 10 also. Just to see whether the overall series I regarded as poor, average or brilliant.

October 26th, 2018 - 8:10pmOnce again Pats86 we are on the same page…although i must admit i would have given it 2/10….
Lorraine
October 21st, 2018 - 9:12pmIt was okay but for those of us aware of the bravery of Rosa Parks was so predictable although good acting from the person portraying her. As always with the BBC modern piece of music spoils the moment and through the end credits as well. . Could have been music from that time period and would have meant more but not through the end credits. Haven’t anything else to to say. 4/10
The Living Shadow
October 21st, 2018 - 9:16pmI disagree. I think a historical song would’ve possibly distanced viewers from the event. In my opinion, the use of the modern song beautifully reflects the impact Rosa Parks will have on shaping the modern world.

October 21st, 2018 - 10:09pmSpot on Lorraine fully agree.

October 22nd, 2018 - 3:37pmYou would think that whatever the surject matter this would/should be etched in tablets of stone:

October 21st, 2018 - 9:03pmWas better than the 1st 2 episodes of this series but as mentioned in another review felt it was preaching the message a bit to hard at times.
Still doesn’t feel like Dr who but some spin off show maybe some repeated viewing once this series has concluded may change my opinion.

October 21st, 2018 - 9:28pmI feel like obviously like with the Smith era, this is a hard core reboot, only difference is that on smiths 3rd episode there was daleks
Mark Braddock
October 21st, 2018 - 8:57pmI felt genuinely moved at the end of the episode and really enjoyed it. Sometimes Doctor Who is at its best it’s character led. Not entirely sure of the “Cold Case” approach to the ending with the music and the slowing down of the footage!
So far so good and enjoying the dynamics of the companions. Bradley Walsh is excellent as I knew he would be. Looking forward to seeing “the rage of the Timelord” at some point.

October 21st, 2018 - 8:56pmGreat episode. Good to see Doctor Who covering proper historical events, much like that seen in the Hartnell era. Would have liked it to be a pure historical though. If felt somewhat needless to have a ‘time meddler’ inserted into the story, just because it’s what Doctor Who must do. There was enough jeopardy that could have happened without the ‘time meddler’. The story would have been better for it. 7/10
The Living Shadow
October 21st, 2018 - 8:56pmWow, that was incredible. I love how the historical event wasn’t undermined at all by sci-fi elements. Amazing to think that kids watching the show will have an understanding of the impact that Rosa Parks had on the world. I really appreciate how they managed to convey that, to a lot of people, many places were a living hell for them at the time. This episode had real emotion and had me tearing up at the end.
The Temporal Jelly Baby
October 21st, 2018 - 8:50pmIt’s nice to see all the positive comments!
Personally, while I liked it, I was actually a little underwhelmed. I didn’t find it all *that* exciting or enjoyable to watch, and in the end I watch Doctor Who because I enjoy watching it.
That being said, I appreciate that it wasn’t necessarily meant to be exciting. I do understand the importance of the episode and I think this will go down as a classic in the same way that ‘Vincent and the Doctor’ is generally regarded as a classic. I appreciate the educational aspect of the episode too – as an advance review said, Doctor Who going back to its 1960s roots. And it did have some pretty nice moments in there.
On first watch, 7/10.

Hello sweetie
October 21st, 2018 - 8:18pmTRULEY BRILLANT EPISODE I WAS CRYING AND IT WAS INCREDIBLE IT HAD AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE AND THE MUSIC WAS AMAZING I ACTULLY THINK ITS UP THERE IN MY TOP 5 EPISODES
The Drums The Never Ending Drum Beat
October 21st, 2018 - 8:14pmThis episode is so far the best episode of series 11! The acting was great, the music was great, the plot was solid and I cannot sing this episode’s praises enough. But I would like to point out some minuscule knit picks 1: the character who was meddling with time wasn’t really necessary when you look at the plot as a whole. I would have preferred it if the TARDIS team just found out that time wasn’t going according to and had to put it in the right direction without the other character. 2: if you disagreed with me on point number one then we can all agree on this the character, if kept in, should have been replaced with the meddling monk, as both characters do the same thing and I do not understand why the character has been resurrected in the first place. I think bringing back the man could have helped to spice up the story a little bit more as well as giving little bit more reasoning as to adding the character in.
Dr phil
October 21st, 2018 - 8:10pmGood episode. Didnt like the revisionist bit where Bradley said “we do things differently in England”. Is that right? How about “no dogs, no blacks, no Irish”.
Rewriting history is awful.

October 21st, 2018 - 8:17pmYes, but it was no where as legalised as in the southern united states. Don’t think I’m defending it as unfortunately the attitude of many English people is still horrendous, but bare in mind the character of Graham is from now, not 1950s Britain.
When The Doctor Was Me
October 21st, 2018 - 8:37pmI think it was referring to his own time. Not 1955 England.
FlyingBox
October 21st, 2018 - 8:46pmSeemed like another attempt to look back on a past age and judge attitudes and people according to our values today. Very poor show tonight indeed!

October 21st, 2018 - 9:50pmIt’s hardly judgment when those attitudes were appallingly wrong!

October 21st, 2018 - 8:04pmI enjoyed it but I see no reason to substitute the show’s theme music at the end. If it’s intention was to move me emotionally, then I have to say that I dislike being coerced into having my heartstrings plucked. The story itself did enough of a job to stir passion at the injustice of the time. I know the said American dramas use songs to fit stories and they work in that particular respect but not here. Leave the show with at least some individuality please.

October 21st, 2018 - 8:03pmVery poor. Came across very ‘preachy’ at times, robotic dialogue, supporting cast were not that strong in my opinion, villain was rubbish. 2/10

October 21st, 2018 - 7:59pmGood episode, the cast was good especially vinette Robinson, who was great as rose, and had great scenes .Jodie was okay a bit wooden at some points, the Villian was boring and bland. The supporting cast was good. I think the story as a whole was done well, but the talks about modern day was a bit jarring.
6.5/10

October 21st, 2018 - 7:59pmThis episode moved me. Loving the new doctor, Jodie Whittaker. She could turn out to be one of the best doctors ever! My son Jacob and Harry are 9 and 6 respectively and we all watch doctor who together. Could we have a signed photo of her and her team as there great also especially Bradley. Could Jodie sign a photo to allan, Jacob & Harry as my boys would love that. Kind regards allan

Dalek Eye Stalk
October 21st, 2018 - 10:41pmI don’t think Jodie and her team look at Doctor Who forums Allan…not if they’ve got any sense! You probably need to request this from the BBC themselves…although they may well lose the message, or have it destroyed in the 16mm film reel incinerator.

October 21st, 2018 - 7:56pmI don’t know what I just watched but it wasn’t Doctor Who !!
With something this important in American History I was expecting better but what I got was a Ladybird Book of Rosa Parks.
No threat from the alien whatsoever and a carry on esque plan to get everything in place!
This is what I was frightened of when it was announced that historical stories were being included!
And I had so enjoyed last weeks episode.
Anonymous
October 21st, 2018 - 8:12pmRather missing the point of the alien threat. There is no need to kill rosa, just to slightly alter the situation so as to change the future. As i don’t know much about the history of rosa parks, the story did what it had to. This isn’t a biopic!

October 21st, 2018 - 7:54pmKind of reminded me of Back to the Future 1
Who rules
October 21st, 2018 - 7:53pmBrilliant. Love that they showed the racism fully and didn’t sugercoat it. Love the song at the end, and yes i bet ‘fans’ will be up in arms but a lot of American dramas use songs as part of the drama, especially at the end of episodes. Csi in all it’s versions, cold case, nsis in it’s versions to name but a few. I liked the fact that the villain was not over explained, he’s just a representative of the kind of irrational, almost phobic racism which sadly is still very much prevalent today. All in all, a great piece of drama
Doctor909
October 21st, 2018 - 7:53pmOne of the best episodes I think the show has seen. It proves perfectly that you don’t always need an alien running about and that actually sci-fi drama can be character led. Amazing, I’m loving the new direction of the show and feel proud to be watching it develop and blossom into something accessible for all!!!

October 21st, 2018 - 7:53pmGood historical event. Werid marriage. Like they are try to do Vincent and the doctor again but failed. The villain’s plot was really messy and so was the doctor counter plot. But the performances where great.

October 21st, 2018 - 7:52pmVery well acted from all involved, music was emotional and its extremely rare a Doctor Who episode makes me have tears in my eyes. So much better than last week.

When The Doctor Was Me
October 21st, 2018 - 7:50pmBest episode so far! I love a historic epsiode and this didn’t disappoint. If I could change one thing it would be to put the theme on the credits. Other than that, I thought it was BRILLIANT!!
