Just watched ‘Time Of The Doctor’ on DVD, wish I hadn’t as its just reminded of me of how much better previous doctors were. Still, I’m still somewhat excited about the last 2 episodes, hopefully they’ll be good ones.

This episode started off well but there were so many elements that broke the connection I get with really good sci-fi. The fact that there were 0 people in London other than a school trip was one and the main one was the way the trees disappeared with a golden glitter effect at the end. I mean come on! Jenna is quite a good side-kick but she is given centre stage too much. Peter is one of the best Dr’s to date and needs to be the main focus. Jenna makes it all a bit too CBBC for my liking. I didn’t really like this episode for these reasons.

I was interested in the concept of this episode, but I think very little of the potential was used. One problem is all the trees appearing overnight. Even if they were consciously spreading, it would still take a lot longer. Besides, having the invasion going on for a week or more would have had me far more invested in the story. Danny Pink doesn’t do ANYTHING, and could have easily either been excluded, or given more to do. Another problem is that the premise is made far less interesting than Man VS Nature by having the trees suddenly being the saviors. The Doctor’s reaction to the kids was funny, and Clara was handled well, though. Still, it was a VERY disappointing episode, and I’d give it a 3/10.

The next time trailer, though… Even if it isn’t good, it still looks interesting. I’m also interested in seeing how they handle the Cybermen, because in their last appearance as the primary threat of the episode (The severely underrated Nightmare in Silver), they were nearly unstoppable, and were only defeated by blowing up the planet. Obviously, they’re not going to blow up the Earth, but I’m interested in seeing how they’re handled.

The vegetation as a bio shield is an interesting and imaginative idea. But where was everyone? How come it was only Pink’s class out of the whole population of London? How come the only member of the public outside was one of the class mums? Really?!

We all love dr who, passionate about good sci fi. however I feel it would have been more readily accepted if the script went along the lines of:

The earth instantly overnight covered in trees, the doctor realizes that they are NOT TREES at all but with investigation, an ancient sentinel bio life form that protects the earth from solar flares but looks like trees.

The dr communicates with the life form and realizes that he needs to position the tardis in space to time direct most of the solar flare around the earth as the sentinel has not dealt with such a threat in 13 billion years and the earth may not survive.

The Dr succeeds and saves the planet with the help of the sentinel, the tree like life form evaporates as it handles the residue radiation and all returns to normal. The sentinel rests until the next unlikely solar threat.

    The implausible within plausibility.
    The doctor saves the day

    What do you think?

      October 27th, 2014 - 12:45pm

that was part of the point of the episode I think, the solution was to do nothing.

      October 28th, 2014 - 2:44am

Glad you liked the idea – how it should of been written.

      To extrapolate on it further,

The Dr realizes that the sentinel is ancient gallifreyan technology. (scares him a little and he has respect for it) Which implies that the time lords and humans may have had a common ancient ancestor and that it why the Dr is obligated to save Earth. The Earth is more important than you could possibly think in ending the time wars and reinstating Gallifrey back into normal time/space with this gallifreyan technology.

You see, it is not hard to spin a good story. To make it exciting, without compromising the story arc of missy ,heaven and or previous whos.

      October 31st, 2014 - 11:35pm

Matt. Please stop. How can the time lords and humans share common ancestry? Also, one of the best aspects of this show is that it decentres us humans, makes us specks of dust in the universe. Don’t overplay our part.

This episode summarizes the entire series: all of the pieces NOT adding up to an enjoyable engrossing entertaining empathetic story. It’s just not working. Last week’s “Flatline” had some of the old magic. I don’t think the viewer can latch on to any character and say “that’s my guy/ gal”. The Doctor can be as gruff as he wants, but he must let us in, too, or we can’t relate. And Clara and Mr. Pink… Who the heck can relate to these cardboard irritants? It’s gotten so bad, I’m hoping I can relate to Missy… Oh, and I wouldn’t be too optimistic about the last shows… Trailers can be edited to look really, really good… I’m hoping I’m wrong. And what if I am, and the last two episodes blow us all away? Does that redeem the entire series? Oh how I miss Doctors 9/10/11…

Not at all what I was hoping for.It was ok but like a lot of this series, has been lacking something. The trailer for the finale looks epic and looks like wat the budget might have been saved for. When the young girl knocked on the tardis door and capaldis head popped out, for a moment he sounded like an early tom baker. I,m loving his doctor more as this series has progressed. Shame this season hasn,t had any instant classics. Hope dark water and death in heaven change that. Best so far ‘Mummy on the orient express’.

It was passable. But I think it was supposed to be bad because they knew it would have been overshadowed by the finale, also if they made one that was as good as say mummy on the orient express it could overshadow the finale or be forgotten.

One of the worst episodes ever. A terrible script. A rubbish plot in which there was no need for the Doctor to be there. He was just an observer and did we really need the Little Red Riding Hood bit? I’m another one who won’t be buying the series and I have bought everything from 2005 until last year’s.

My Internet went down so I couldn’t post earlier bu here are my views on the episode. What a bunch of nonsense. That’s the first time ever watching Doctor Who that I got lost. It was all over the place. And to top it all off, it was in my favourite series so far. I can’t believe how tragic it was. Episode in a messed up nutshell:
    – lost girl
    – school trip
    – find girl
    – Nelson’s Column falls over.
    – WOLVES!
    – TIGER!
    – gone.
    – Lanternflies that talk
    – The world destroyed.
    – Oh no it isn’t
    – End
    – Smashing my face against a wall

That was the biggest load of tat I have ever watched. It was awful. Since Frank is an author I was expecting a good script, but I was cringing in places. Something along the lines of…

    1. Child: ‘Oh my God, Mave is still out there. Mave’s going to die,’ in the least caring voice ever. A close second…
    2. Clara’s line about oyster cards.

I’m not sure about the spelling of Mave/Maive/Mayve/MAve/Meyve, and to be honest don’t care. I was also hoping it would have a story, which it didn’t. I liked the synopsis. Then what? After the three best episodes in the series so far, we were given what is in my opinion, the worst ever episode of Doctor Who.

And what in the name of snaity was the purpose of that scene at the end, with another child, previously aforementioned once, appearing after hiding in a bush?

    1. Flatline
    2. Mummy on the Orient Express
    3. Kill the Moon
    4. Time Heist
    5. Listen
    6. Deep Breath
    7. Into the Dalek
    8. Robot of Sherwood
    9. The Caretaker
    10. ItFotN

Actually, I didnt mind this episode and surprisingly found the main girl not too annoying. The scenes with her and the Doctor were good and perhaps needed more of their interaction rather than Clara and Danny (which has now become boring in my humble opinion. Sorry.)
It would have been good to see more of a threat from the wolves and tiger etc but the concept was an interesting one that didnt quite live up to the sum of its parts.
Good to see the Doctor again having more of a spotlight but inconsistant writing and series directing is still letting him down.

This ep was…interesting to say the least.I felt a bit confused by how the plot worked and it took til near the end for me to understand the situation. The relationship between Clara,Danny and the Doctor felt a bit strange( i can’t find the word to describe it )but apart from some issues and nitpicks,it was a good episode. CGI was pretty good, especially for the shots of London overrun by trees, and i loved the moments with the wolves and tiger, although i didn’t see for why the plot had to based off a tiger-based poem considering it was there for a few secs.Apart from that,a fairly good and enjoyable ep.Next week’s Dark Water looks to be a cool introduction to the finale!
