I personally love it. The story doesn’t have much too it but that’s ok as the acting was AMAZING Karen Gillan is a fantastic actor anyway but here she has knocked it out of the park. Arthur Darvill is great here as he showed raw emotion to the loss of old Amy at the end. Matt is great as always and the Doctor was quite dark. Overall a 9.5/10

Oh come on! I have no idea what is going on with the critical viewing skills of Doctor Who fans lately. The show has become less about The Doctor and more about Moffat’s pet characters. Moreover we have the characters behaving in ways that don’t even make sense. As tedious as I find River Song, I find it even more strange that we have now had two episodes in a row where neither Rory or Amy have even MENTIONED their daughter. ??? At all?? How are we supposed to maintain emotional continuity or any investment at all if everything is canceled out or forgotten about from week to week- they don’t even act like people who have been through all they have been through.

This episode was a rehash of the black spot with some timey wimey stuff, we have Amy angry about waiting when rory waited faithfully for a thousand years- as far as acting goes, all she did was grumble and frown. Then we have the doctor shut the tardis door in her face- waiting till the last minute to do so which seemed out of character and cruel.

I just can’t understand how so many people are lapping this up every week and think every episode is the best one ever.

I agree liz. There seems to be something missing from moffats episodes, they just dont draw you in like russel Ts used to. and i noticed the doc waiting to close the door in her face, theyre forgetting basic character traits and its affecting the continuity of the series… x

I agree totally liz, i have liked series 6 part 1, but part 2 has been awful. series 1, 2,3,4 could beat these anyday, i was watched s1 the other day, i had forgotten how good they were.

Couldn’t he just turn the TARDIS into a flying Paradox machine, to save the old Amy, that would probaly mess time up, and create more paradoxes. Anyway this episode was less dippointing as the un-scary dolls, or the episode lacking of Hitler. I loved those Handbots, bots with hands! 🙂

ive think i may have figured out the question that makes silence fall:
as madam krovinan and the silence are working together to make river a weopn against the doctor, if river and the doctor liked each other that would be bad, wouldnt it?
so if they like each other enough the doctor or river may ask “will you marry me?” which would be bad for madam k and the silence as that would mean they like each other.
also the final ep is called the wedding of river song so it also ties in?
so like in lets kill hitle robot amy said a certain question is when silence will fall

    what do you think?

i know im prob wrong but its a timey-wimey possibility!!!!!!

this is a good idea, well done.
but is it the oldest question in the universe ?
the first ever question like she said ? could be..
I was think more like.. who are you ?
because the silence came before and nobody mentioned anything about marrying

I thought it was ok could have had a more explosive ending these recent serises is more about your my daughter omg not enough alien action the need to have action aliens and the family bits like on lets kill hitler could have been one of the best episodes ever if they had just used hitler more and get a better alien

That’s what you think, but YOU are missing the fact that episodes 1+3 are great iin their own way, despite not being MONSTER OF THE WEEK epsiodes,

sure they aren’t what you wanted to see, but they were marvellous achievments in terms of production and writing, 😛

Wow, the point of the story passed you by. Some people like deeper more emotion based eps than a moster of the week

      Hi Karen,

I agree that depth is good, but maybe Shaun is tired of it always being essentially the same emotions. There are others than heartbreak and its near relatives. Personally, what with cancer, heart disease, and other horrors, my life is so filled to overflowing with death, tragedy, disappointment, heartache, loss, and so many other difficult things, that I’m growing tired of reliving it on television.

    Rule # 1 : The Doctor lies!

Oh sure, we can get get both old and young Amy on the Tardis!! Just another example of Time Lord integrity!!( goes back to when Hartnell lies about Susan’s whereabouts to her teachers!).
I’m beginning to think Rory should belt him one more often!
Has anyone ever compiled a list of The Doctors’ crimes? (From the other point of view, of course)

    1) Theft of type 40 TT capsule from rightful owners.
    all the way to :

(?) Betrayal of Amy & Rory & AMY (Elderly)+ her subsequent demise??

really great episode, very emotional ending, and pretty jarring when the doctor shut the door on older amy, i also like the slight darkening of the doctors character. But how long can the doctor amy and rory’s relationship continue if they keep bieng put through emotional wringer episodes like this?

The Girl Who Waited is my favourite of all the episodes Karen has been in! Her performance was truly amazing and so emotional. Same goes for Arthur – one of his best episodes this series. The breif time that Matt is on screen is rather good, but I wouldn’t say it was the best we’ve seen from him.
A brilliant emotional story with brilliant performances from brilliant actors. Well done to the Who Crew!

The Doctor’s changed ever since he’s met River Song. He’s become darker and he makes the worst choices and he changes most of his companions some for the better and most for the worst but I would like someone to show the doctor that and I think it’s great how River Song is the person to do that and she should be the one to show him what he has become and to show that thatis how his life is going to end. That armies are rising up against him to stop him from being even more distrructive.

Also people are saying that this wasn’t a good episode because there asn’t a lot of fighting, much talk, there wasn’t a lot of the doctor, it is boring etc. bt doctor who isn’t all about fighting and monsters, it’s about the doctor’s and his companions and their heartache and their downfall and the emotional and moving scenes are the best scenes ever in doctor who and all these bboring and weird and different episodes are relly leading to a bigger plot, to the 50th anniversary, to the end of the doctor.

A good episode, nicely done. Again it shows that the standalone stories are far better than the rather over compensated arc ones which are now just dull and done to death. Certainly one of the better ones to date of this Moffat era.

there are some comments about the doctors death below, and do you remember whe the ganger doctor and the normal doctor swapped shoes?? amy thought she was talking to the genger, but she was talking to the real doctor, she said she had seen him die, is tht how the doctor found out??

i thought the ep was good, but they dragged it out a bit too much, it took half an hour for old amy to decide she was going to save herself, i wanted there to be more fighting and action rather than the last 5 mins, and how did amy get so clever to create a sonic?? but the saddest bit is when the doctor locked old amy out and she died.

I really liked this one because it was different. It was a good story in a good setting and the title could have been Rory’s Choice, to connect with Amy’s last year. lol

Good episode overall. Glad it didn’t do a love and monsters and screw itself up(apart from the clom reference which was good to be honest) if anybody had to be the monster in this one it had to be the doctor
