What Did You Think of The Name of The Doctor?

What Did You Think of The Name of The Doctor?

Clara receives a letter summoning her to a mysterious meeting, where she is given a message for the Doctor.

The meaning is uncertain, but when an enemy strikes the Time Lord is left with no choice but to travel to the one place in time and space he should never go – into a deadly trap that threatens to unravel his past, present and future.

Now that the final episode of series 7b has aired in the UK what did you think? Was it the best episode ever or just average.

What’s the doctors name and I hope john Hurt is not the next doctor oa and also I wouldn’t get my hopes up about John Hurt being the doctor because everyone thought David Morrisy was gonna be the next doctor but he wasn’t.

And Steven Moffat said he had no plans of changing Matt Smith.
also what was the doctors name. 🙂

That was not a particularly good episode of doctor who. Steven Moffat said we would find out who Clara is. She’s a bleeding LEAF!!!! And to put John Hurt as the Doctor?!?! Matt has signed up for series 8, as has Coleman. That story made absolutely NO SENSE!!!!

Isn’t that the point of Doctor Who? To keep your head spinning? To make you want to watch on? The John Hurt thing is going to be almost like a side story, I’m sure. Don’t worry, Doctor Who will always confuse all of us!

Moffat, how could you? I feel like that cliffhanger has mucked up the whole of the history of Doctor Who. That’s another wasted regeneration. He’ll be used once and then he’ll never be used again, like the eighth Doctor. Why has he done this? How many regenerations are we going to waste?

Nobody should be concerned with the number of regeneration. Get on with loving the possibilities. You’re missing the whole point of what Dr. Who is and what it stands for. 🙂

I jut re watched the episode and have found that the end is in fact brilliant. However, the initial thought of the ending was horrific due to the shock of it all. I had to re watch the episode to actually like and enjoy that ending.

  • JOHN HURT

    May 18th, 2013 - 8:01pm

What I’m guessing is that that John Hurt plays the Doctor before he was called the Doctor. Thus he may have been far darker as his clothes represents.

    OR

Due the fact that the 50th involves the 10th Doctor and Rose, it could be a missed or partial tear in time that has allowed this ‘dark’ incarnation of the Doctor to occur.

John hurt will be one of the following
    The first doctor
The real doctor who ended the time war and the doctor as we know him is a hoax who has acted to be him and pretended to be him

John Hurt is The Doctor, He was the one who fought in the time war, but ended it by doing something terrible (we don’t know what yet, but he probably killed all the timelords), so he chose not to call himself ‘the doctor’ as he went against his own rules.

We know what happened to end the Time War. The Doctor killed almost all the Timelords and almost all the Daleks. It’s old news. It’s been done. There has got to be something more interesting, something different, something new.

WoW! Totally blown away – makes up for quite a bit of mot-too-good episodes this season. John Hurt is The Doctor? First thouights were “That was a pre-Hartnell incarnation” but now thinking “Is he a post-Smith Doctor?”

He can’t be a post-Smith Doctor because Smith recognised him and knew about the things he had done. The Doctor cannot know his own future so I’m guessing he’s pre-Hartnell in some way.

The episode was great, but the cliff hanger was awful. It ruins doctor who. The secret of the time war, the mystery that kept you thinking what happend, how many monsters did the doctor face how brave he was. And to introduce a new actor to play him it’s rubbish, the doctor with eleven faces, the oncoming storm, the one who put a stop to the time war but on ones noes how’s. rubbish. True critic opionon

I think the John Hurt incarnation of the Doctor is not called ‘The Doctor’, as the 11th Doc mentioned, he chose to be called the Doctor, the word for healer. I think the John Hurt doctor fought in the time war, and killed all the timelords, and as a result, decided that that incarnation should not be called ‘the doctor’.

There is no mystery to the Time War thing! It was hell. The Timelords were going to destroy the Universe. The Doctor had to stop them. He did what he had to do. We’ve heard about it since 2005. Eccleston was guilty and angry. In “The End of Time” we got plenty of details. And then Ten(nant) sent them back, so essentially he killed them all again. And Matt Smith said, “Fear me. I killed them all.” I know it still weighs on his conscience, but he did it to SAVE THE UNIVERSE, not because he likes killing people. But there’s no secret, no mystery. What more could there be to it? Frankly, I can’t see there being any more I’d want to hear about it, so I hope it’s something new and different.

Very much so, since they were always meant to opposite sides, a bit like Sherlock and Moriarty. So it is possible that John Hurt could be the darker side of The Doctor, going back to the Valyard, an intermediate stage of regeneration (incarnation?) Good question leebebbs. Can you speculate more, it,s all very
      intriguing.

each time she said that it was an echo of her saying remember me. also she cant remember the doctor sometimes because it has to be that way that time or things things might change

    • DoctorClara

      May 18th, 2013 - 8:14pm

She doesn’t remember The Doctor because the Clara’s in the Doctor’s past are copies of Clara not the real one. That’s why she doesn’t remember saying run you clever boy and remember when she was Oswin and the victorian Clara.
      Hope that helps!

John hurt will probably play a version of the doctor using a different name or his real name.

    • Fortean Joe

      May 19th, 2013 - 6:35pm

The clue to the end of this episode is the title “(In) The Name of The Doctor” and the Dcotor’s line that he chose his name as a promise [to the universe]. He states that John Hurt is him but is an incarnation that broke that promise, meaning he [John Hurt] was not the Doctor (despite the titles that flash up).
