What Did You Think of The Name of The Doctor?

What Did You Think of The Name of The Doctor?

Clara receives a letter summoning her to a mysterious meeting, where she is given a message for the Doctor.

The meaning is uncertain, but when an enemy strikes the Time Lord is left with no choice but to travel to the one place in time and space he should never go – into a deadly trap that threatens to unravel his past, present and future.

Now that the final episode of series 7b has aired in the UK what did you think? Was it the best episode ever or just average.

I don’t think Benedict Cumberbatch should be the next doctor. I think he should be The Master instead since he played a great villain in Into Darkness.

No it was horrible, they killed the great intelegiance without ever whoing us an updated yeti design. It was basicly promised to us ounce he was reintroduced but yet again moffet spits in our faces by only showing us a one second snippet of one from the web of fear. So dissapointed, moffet should stop perverting a great show and leave

There’s no real difference, splintered or scattered, the different Claras were different versions of the original who jumped in. And why couldn’t I have guessed? Anyone can make theories.

I think he was more making the point that she was scattered though his time line rather than just time.

There are two possibilities: I believe the John Hurt Doctor is the Doctor who fought in the Time War. But McGann either regenerates early in the Time War and Hurt becomes a battle hardened Soldier Time Lord before destroying Galifrey and the Time Lords before regenerating into Ecclestone (which would renumber on subsequent Doctors) – Or and this is my favourite suggestion – McGann fights in the Time War before destroying Galifrey and the Time Lords, which causes a regeneration, but because of what he has just done there is an inner conflict during the regeneration and he is reborn as twins (making both Hurt & Ecclestone the ninth doctor), later on the Hurt doctor regenerates into his tenth incarnation becoming the Valeyard.

Actually I think there is a simple reason for not revealing the Doctor’s true name.

He is a time travellor. As he stated “Maybe the most prolific one ever…Therefore his grave is possibly the most dangerous place in the universe.”

If someone had his true name and the ability to travel to his beginnings they could eliminate him from time and therefore undue everything that was done. The GI coudn’t go back beyond where the time tunnel started, which was when Dr Who started time travel, therefore he could only alter the timeline from there and not completely get rid of him.

I just realized, I was right about Clara! I’d thought she’d been splintered in time like Scaroth in City of Death, and I WAS RIGHT! 😀 Anyway, the final scores for the season are:
    Asylum of the Daleks: 10/10
    Dinosaurs on a Spaceship: 8/10
    A Town Called Mercy: 9/10
    The Power of Three: 6/10
    The Angels Take Manhatten: 7/10
    The Snowmen: 4/10
The Bells of St John: 7/10
    The Rings of Akhaten: 9/10
    Cold War: 8/10
    Hide: 7/10
Journey to the Center of the TARDIS: 7/10
    The Crimson Horror: 9/10
    Nightmare in Silver: 8/10
The Name of the Doctor: 9/10

I thought that as well! Between the Crimson Horror and Nightmare in Silver, i said to my mum that she would be like Scaroth, splintered through time, the same person but living (and dying) in different times. She just laughed, but then had to accept… I was right. 🙂

    Hmmm, taken from Wikipedia….

The ancient Jews considered God’s true name so potent that they believed its invocation conferred upon the speaker tremendous power over his creations. To prevent abuse of this power, as well as to avert blasphemy, the name of God was always taboo, and increasingly disused so that by the time of Jesus their High Priest was supposedly the only individual who spoke it aloud — and then only in the Holy of Holies upon the Day of Atonement.[4]

This theroy about him being the creator of the universe seems to be gaining some weight!

Well, towards the end of the classic series, they tried to re-establish the mystery behind the Doctor. There were references to “the time of chaos” and Ace even asked, “Who are you?”

So if not the creator of the Universe, I’d like to see that he had something to do with beginnings on Gallifrey or even Earth. In some ways, I guess the latter has already been established.

      Jesus was a Time Lord.

    • Dalek: the Supreme

      May 26th, 2013 - 10:35pm

It was planned that the Doctor would have been revealed to be The Other, a Time Lord who helped Rassilon and Omega shape Gallifrey. I’m afraid I don’t know anything more than that.

After reading all the comments, I have come to think of the possible scenarios.

1/ We see some crisis event which involves the Matt Smith and David Tannet’s doctors. It relates to the Hunt Doctor who is a pre-Hartnell Doctor. What we might possibly see is a sort of pre-sequal (like the reboot of the Dark Knight and Star Trek)..the Doctor origins which leads to the stealing of the Tardis.

2/ It is the Hunt doctor who is involved in the Time War and this is used as flashbacks in the future involving the current doctor.

3/ The Hunt is not the real doctor but actually the Master who has returned working in partnership with the Great Intelligence.

4/ It’s actually Matt Smith’s last time as the Doctor and he regenerates into the Hunt Doctor. Although from a reality point of view, I can’t see a great actor like Hunt who want to be involved in a long term tv production. Think of the salary the BBC has to pay him!

Really we don’t know what SM is upto for the 50th Anniversary but it must be something exciting and I like to think it will tie up lose ends such as how come the Doctor never anything about Torchwood. How is it he can’t remember Clara over the years.

1/ The Hunt Doctor is a pre-Hartnell doctor and what we might possibly see is a pre-sequel – the story of the Doctor leading to stealing of the TARDIS.

That would require Hartnel to be the first regeneration and not the original Dr, which goes against the set history. The present Dr would be the 12th regeneration and the 11th official Dr.
