No the War Doctor’s were “I hope the ears are a bit less conspicuous this time” as an in-joke to the fact that the next Doctor, Christopher Eccleston, had rather large ears.
As for the Sixth Doctor, well, nobody knows… The “Carrot Juice” line was at the end of Trial of a Time Lord, but he regenerated at the beginning of Time and the Rani. Time seems to have passed between the two stories as he must have dropped off future Mel and collected past Mel, and the events of Terror of the Vervoids would then have taken place. There are also a lot of Big Finish adventures (of which, at least some are now established canon) in between the two stories.

      The Ears:
      a) makes much more sense
      b) it’s obviously the ears – I don’t know how you can mistake it.

Yes, the 6th Doctors last ON SCREEN words were “Carrot juice”, but his actual last words are unknown.

Why are people saying the Doctor has 12 more regenerations left? This should be his last and final one. Did I miss something?

This story was a bit confusing to me. Why couldn’t they bring back the Rani and have her steal the Doctor’s TARDIS leaving him stranded to die of old age. She could have intended to borrow it for a bit and bring it back without him knowing, only the time circuits get scrambled and she’s off by a few hundred years. Just a thought.

It was a weird story. Can’t wait to see what the new Doctor chooses to wear! The Doctor typically has chosen his clothes from his immediate surroundings which is more than likely Earth or the TARDIS Wardrobe. So, his new outfit should be a rather Earth like one like the ones we’ve seen before.

Yes, you did miss something. He explained to Clara that although he calls himself the Eleventh Doctor, he is actually in his Thirteenth, and final body (due to the inclusion of the War Doctor and the ‘Same-body regeneration’ at the beginning of ‘Journey’s End’). Hence, he could not regenerate anymore and was set to die of old age, as he almost did when the Daleks attacked and he had been guarding Christmas for hundreds of years. At the end though, he was given a complete set of twelve new regenerations (thirteen bodies) from the Time Lords, through the crack in time! Peter Capaldi is the first of this new cycle, meaning he has twelve bodies ahead of him. Clearer?

Because there were thousands if different species there, so they can’t show them all, and personally I’m happy they didn’t, the slitheen seem a bit more of a comical alien to me and would ruin the atmosphere of the episode.

The End Of Time, a better story than The Time Of The Doctor! What are you talking about! Steven Moffat is the best thing to happen to Doctor Who since the revival of the show. RTD is possibly one of the worst writers of the revived series (except Matthew Graham, the writer of Fear Her). The Time Of The Doctor was a much more classic regeneration episode, and classic who will always be the best who!

Seeing as there are now 14th Doctors and not 12, cos it seems David Tennant’s 10th Doctor was 2 versions, who we’re really 11 and 12, then the Doctors and who played them now go like this –

    William Hartnell – The 1st Doctor [1963 to 1966]

    Patrick Troughton – The 2nd Doctor [1966 to 1969]

    Jon Pertwee – The 3rd Doctor [1970 to 1974]

    Tom Baker – the 4th Doctor [ 1974 to 1981]

    Peter Davison – The 5th Doctor [1982 to 1984]

    Colin Baker – The 6th Doctor [ 1984 to 1986]

Sylvester McCoy – The 7th Doctor [1987 to 1989, plus 1996 in the TV Movie]

Paul McGann – The 8th Doctor [1996 TV Movie only, shown regenerating in 2013 mini-sode ‘The Night of the Doctor’]

John Hurt – The 9th Doctor [2013 in mini-sode ‘The Night of the Doctor’, shown starting to regenerate in ‘The Day of the Doctor’]

    Christopher Eccleston – The 10th Doctor [2005]

    David Tennant – The 11th Doctor [2005 to 2008]

    David Tennant – The 12th Doctor [2008 to 2010]

    Matt Smith – The 13th Doctor [2010 to 2013]

Peter Capaldi – The 14th Doctor [2013 – Present Day]

Technically Doctor Who One, Peter Capaldi is the Twelfth Doctor as John Hurts Doctor only called himself the war doctor not the 9th so I see it like this…

William Hartnell: 1st Doctor (1st Body)
Patrick Troughton: 2nd Doctor (2nd Body)
Jon Pertwee: 3rd Doctor (3rd Body)
Tom Baker: 4th Doctor (4th Body)
Peter Davison: 5th Doctor (5th Body)
Colin Baker: 6th Doctor (6th Body)
Sylvester McCoy: 7th Doctor (7th Body)
Paul McGann: 8th Doctor (8th Body)
John Hurt: War Doctor (9th Body)
Christopher Eccleston: 9th Doctor (10th Body)
      David Tennant V.1: 10th Doctor (11th Body)
      David Tennant V.2: 10th Doctor (12th Body)
Matt Smith: 11th Doctor (13th Body)
Peter Capaldi: 12th Doctor (14th Body)

William Hartnell: First Doctor, first body.
Patrick Troughton: Second Doctor, second body, first regeneration.
Jon Pertwee: Third Doctor, third body, second regeneration.
Tom Baker: Fourth Doctor, fourth body, third regeneration.
Peter Davison: Fifth Doctor, fifth body, fourth regeneration.
Colin Baker: Sixth Doctor, sixth body, fifth regeneration.
Sylvester McCoy: Seventh Doctor, seventh body, sixth regeneration.
Paul McGann: Eighth Doctor, eighth body, seventh regeneration.
John Hurt: War Doctor, ninth body, eighth regeneration.
Christopher Eccleston: Ninth Doctor, tenth body, ninth regeneration.
David Tennant: Tenth Doctor, eleventh body, tenth regeneration.
Matt Smith: Eleventh Doctor, twelfth body, twelfth regeneration.

The Human Doctor just used up the regeneration process.

I did!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Shame there weren’t any silurians. I was expecting a pandorica opens style monster invasion. However it would be too much to cram in what is already there. The Sontarans were absolutely rubbish in it, Moffat turned them into jokes. The cybermen, and the slients were really awesome. The angels were terrifying. And the Daleks were just the same old boring Daleks that Moffat has actually decided to make them a big part of the story.

At least we are up to date with all the regenerations and reasons why.

    1. Body is ‘wearing a bit thin’
    2. Forced upon by the time lords
    3. Radiation poisoning
    4. Fell from the Pharos project telescope
    5. Spectrox toxeamia poisoning
    6. Unspecified injuries caused by the rani
    7. Shot by a street gang
    8. Crashed in spaceship, resurrected by Karn’s elixirs
    9. Body is ‘wearing a bit thin’ again
    10. Absorbed the time vortex energy
    11. Shot by a dalek.
    12. Radiation poisoning again
    13. What reason would you call Matt’s regeneration?

I am sorry to say that i was dissapointed with the quality of the writing of ‘the time of the doctor’
It was sloppy and failed to hold a clear narrative as to what was going on.
The script would have lent itself to say, a comic, where the reader can read and re-read a passage to clarify what was happening, but generally in tv form it felt hurried, with too many elements trying to be addressed in too short a period. don’t get me wrong, the story elements and ideas were good, but (and this happens all too often in Dr Who now) the script writing was poor.

I didn’t really like Ecclestone although he was “ok”. Tennant was THE doctor for me and I’m old enough to have watched them all. Matt Smith I strongly disliked but he grew on me over time, so much so that I will actually miss him. Just a pity he didn’t take wooden Clara with him.

Capaldi is one of my favourite actors and I’m looking forward to it, but I seriously hope that they can get some better writing. The 50th and the Xmas special are both poor. Yes poor, certainly poor in comparison to some of the stellar writing that has gone before. Moffat needs to stop believing his own hype and remember you are only as good as your last episode – and the last one was poor.

Two things: 1) If that was his last body, why did he start regenerating in “The Impossible Astronaut”? 2) If he didn’t die on Trenzalore, then why was the TARDIS and his ‘grave’ there in “The name of the Doctor”? Afterall, if he didnt die, there’d be no grave… So Clara would never have gone through time and saved him, meaning the Doctor wouldn’t have met her in the Asylum to begin with!

likes to close plot holes at least some time.

    • TheBritishCupOfTea

      December 27th, 2013 - 1:41pm

The Doctor didn’t regenerate on Lake Silencio. That was the Teselecta simply putting on a light show, recreating the regeneration effect.
The Doctor did die on Trenzalore, but that time line was re-written, so it never really happened.
Think of it like a long road. This road represents the Time Line of Trenzalore, every so often there are other little roads that branch out of this long road – these are alternate time lines, or possibilities. If you go up one of these smaller ‘possibility roads’, you will find The Doctor died on Trenzalore and the TARDIS was his tomb. But since that was re-written, that road is closed off now, but it was closed off after the Doctor + Clara went there, so it doesn’t create a paradox. Instead, they are now travelling up another small possibility road where the Doctor didn’t die, and all is well.

      1st – An Unearthly Child
2nd – The Power of the Daleks
      3rd – Spearhead from Space
      4th – Robot
      5th – Castrovalva
      6th – The Twin Dilemma
7th – Time and the Rani
      8th – The TV Movie
War Doctor – The Night of the Doctor
      9th – Rose
      10th – The Christmas Invasion
      11th – The Eleventh Hour

OK after a second viewing, skimming through it and probaby watching it properly once again today it’s not as all over the place as it first seemed.

More importantly IT DOES finally answer WHO BLEW THE TARDIS! The Silence after all-or more exactly a breakaway faction causing the very events they were trying to prevent. So that story arc of the Smith era and a KEY test of Stephen Moffat’s credibility has been resolved. What the Silence even are makes more sense now.

These specials are still a case though of the whole being less than the sum of the parts and probably always will be.

P.S. Make more use of the Paradigm Daleks if theirs to be ANY continuing point to them!

    • DOCTOR WHO ONE

      December 26th, 2013 - 4:28pm

      BAD THINGS MOFFAT HAS DONE
      Introduced the Paradigm Daleks.
Splitting series 6 and 7 in half.
Having no 2 parters during series 7.
Confusing the hell out of fan’s with the storylines to series 6.

      GOOD THINGS MOFFAT HAS DONE
Got rid of River Song in ‘The Name of the Doctor’ [thank Rassilon ๐Ÿ˜€ ]
Saved Gallifrey and the Time Lord’s in the final day of the Time War.
Shown the Time War, as we all thought we’d never get a chance to actually see it.
And perhaps, most important of all, cos this is the most important one of all before considering Moffat a fool – ensuring Doctor Who’s future for another 50 years by giving the Doctor a brand new life cycle of regenerations to ensure Doctor Who will last for it’s 100th Anniversary in 2063 – BE GRATEFUL FOR THAT AT LEAST !!!!!!!!.

      December 27th, 2013 - 5:45pm

      Doctor Who One:
Moffat had little part in the design of the “FATleks” or the writing of the episodes
The Split was an experiment – admittedly a failed one – but you don’t know until you try. the lack of 2 parters is a result of the split experiment
You won’t be confused if you pay attention!
That shouldn’t be titled BAD THINGS MOFFAT HAS DONE, but UNFORTUNATE EVENTS WHICH HAVE HAPPENED DURING THE MOFFAT ERA.

McGann is the Doctor, that’s their opinion. They hate Steven Moffat and most of the changes that came with him. Personally, I enjoy his writing and the changes he brought in Series 5, including the so-called “Fat-leks”.
The point is, we have different opinions on different eras, but we’re all fans of the same show, so we shouldn’t be telling each other which era or Doctor or Dalek to love or hate.

    • JJ

McGann is the Doctor are you saying Moffat was a fan in primary school or me? And Anonymous, I stated he ruined the 50th anniversary like it was a fact to me. I know some people enjoyed it and I understand that. Normally, I’d say I just didn’t like it and have done with it, not to upset anyone else. But other people don’t care, loads hate River and I don’t see or understand why (well I do a bit), but they say that fans who like her are stupid and should be killed, now that’s just plain nasty, I don’t say people who like 50th should die, because 1. It’s their opinion and 2. Everyone dies some day, even Captain Jack Harkness or rather, the Face Of Boe. Yes, we all like Doctor Who, I agree, let’s just talk about the bits we love from the show, that’s the whole reason we’re on here. To share our views and opinions and remember the times in which made us love such a once great show or still great show in some minds.

With 77 million viewers, Dr. Who became a runaway sensation since Matt Smith took over the role and the story arc about Amelia, Rory, River Song, and Clara evolved. From a sheer financial perspective, its lunacy to simply kill all that off. The UK may know Capaldi but Americans don’t and we’re the biggest audience now, how can anybody risk losing that? This decision will go down as the biggest blunder in show business history. Keeping it fresh is one thing, we can all understand that. But the ratings tell us that this cast and crew tapped into a phenomena, once in a lifetime experience for all of us. I mourn its passing.

Do you even know Doctor who? They can’t just keep the same Doctor because it’s popular. Doctor who has always had to keep things changed up. They’re not going to start catering just for USA audiences as well. It’s our show and a big part of our culture. Also, Doctor who was at it’s most popular when it had David Tennant and Billie Piper according to viewing figures and toy sales. So calling this the biggest blunder in show business history has to be one of the bigger blunders of the Doctor who fanbase.

The doctor has been around for 50 years. Do you really think that just because you think america is the biggest audience that the stories should be catered to what you think is right! Dr who was popular before it hit america and it will still be popular when america gets bored with it. Does america have anything that equals Dr who and anything that is still being made and lasting as long? Dr who will be around for the next 50 years. More than likely when you’re dust in the grave

This is a British show and needs to stay that way. (Speaking as an American.) Russell T, Eccleston and Tennant laid the groundwork. The budget got bigger when Moffet took over and they were able to market to the US, but that didn’t mean the show got better. I loved Moffet’s writing and was looking forward to him taking the helm, but it hasn’t been nearly as good as I had hoped. I did enjoy the 50th but I was quite disappointed in the Christmas special. It felt too contrived. It was too, “Oh dear–I only have one show to wrap up all of these loose ends!” Here’s hoping that in series 8 Peter Capaldi can bring the show back to what it should be.

    • The Moffat Paradox

      December 29th, 2013 - 12:53pm

      Defender Of Trenzalore.
Except that Star Trek has been a bigger money spinner for CBS/Paramount than Doctor Who for the publiclly funded BBC,has had bigger TV/Movie producton values, is a more globally recogised brand as any episode from any series has been statistically always shown somewhere in the world even when no new series were being made (and thats not counting the movies),has vied with Doctor Who for being longer running when no new offiicial Doctor Who was being made, still has a larger fan base if judged by the extent of the convention circuit worldwide and has had a BIG cultural impact including even on the English language itself and inspiration to innovate as with mobile technology.

It’s true (though I’ve read the original plan was they should be a race of insects which was dropped as being too challenging) the Borg can be seen as an idea pinched from the Cybermen but the latest version of them and their ability to rapidly upgrade could be seen as pinching the idea of the Borg’s ability to adapt.

So while I agree that Doctor Who should be made for a British audience it still has some way to go before matching or surpassing Star Trek for the reasons set out above.

(I personally like something like Predator even more in Sci-Fi.)

Touche on most of your points
However alls series of Star Trek when totalled add up to 33 seasons (not including “enterprise”, but that differs widely from the other continuity) Doctor Who has at least 34 seasons (and I’m pretty sure it’s more) and that is just the one ‘mother’ serial, whereas it could be argued that all other series of Star Trek other than the original are just spin offs of the original, which only had 5 series’
