What Did You Think of The Time of the Doctor?

What Did You Think of The Time of the Doctor?

Orbiting a quiet backwater planet, the massed forces of the universe’s deadliest species gather, drawn to a mysterious message that echoes out to the stars – and amongst them, the Doctor.

Rescuing Clara from a family Christmas dinner, the Time Lord and his best friend must learn what this enigmatic signal means for his own fate and that of the universe.

I think steven moffat stopping the doctor from ever destroying gallifrey has taken a lot of darkness out of the doctor and that is not good

I think that Moffat should definitely bring back the Rani. She’s the Doctor’s equal, in cleverness, and in wisdom. She will be an awesome re-addition to to DOCTOR WHO Series.

The MASTER USED UP ALL HIS LIVES before the Sixth Doctor, yet, he came back in David Tennant’s Series… So, maybe, just maybe, he will come back in Capaldi’s Series.

Agreed. I find The whole idea behind the Silurians fascinating and think the ones since “The Hungry Earth” are too humanoid looking. Bring back the classic ones with a little makeover as with the Daleks/Cybermen.

I am not being rude here but moffat has destroyed the Sontarnans they are no longer ruthless warriors they are just funny potatoes

It started with strax a butler nurse sontarnan working for jenny and vastra and he was a pretty funny sontarnan and I could cope with that it is only one sontarnan

But then in the time of the doctor saw an apperence of war sontarnans and I was rather exited it had been a while since we have seen some proper sontarnans and what do we get some idiotic potatoes moffat has really ruined the sontarnans

Now he dose have a chance to redeem himself here all he has to do is make a proper sontarnan story . mabey a story where strax has to choose between his clone batch or the doctor . but for now the really sontarnans are gone.

I see your point, and I don’t mind Strax, but when the Sontarans popped up in the TTOTD they looked like Strax, and didn’t act as good as they did in series four. Not every Sontaran has to look like Strax! Staal didn’t!

Has anyone any idea how The Tower of London is meant to be TARDIS proof? Apart from the explanation given in the 50th of alien technology and earth stupidity. I know it’s a silly, petty question but I just like to know how writer’s minds work and see if they can offer a decent reasoning.

      I have NO IDEA.

    • Doyouhearthem?

      January 3rd, 2014 - 8:58pm

I’m guessing it’s something to do with the TARDIS affecting the place it’s about to land in before it does. If the Archive had the right type and of density and impurity in the air, then PERHAPS the TARDIS would be incapable of materialising in those conditions. Just an idea…

    • Obsie

      January 3rd, 2014 - 10:48pm

Yes however, the TARDIS is always landing in places with different atmospheric conditions: caves, space-ships, planets, miniaturised ships(“Carnival of…”), submarines. If Steven Moffat is going to write these types of stories , then it would be nice to offer up some kind of explanation. The likes of Terrance Dicks, Bob Baker, Malcolm Hulke et al, always seemed to have one, no matter what it was; they always had some form of basis to fall back on. Then again, perhaps I was younger back then, but watch them now and they still make some sort of sense.

P.S No one has still come as to why a photo of Kamelion was in the Tower of London -despite the fact that’s where he should have been put for crimes against science-fiction!

    • Imma Timelord

      January 4th, 2014 - 12:24pm

I THINK SO – Either the TARDIS has some kind of magnetic atmospere that would surround it ( which would make sense considering when you open a TARDIS door in space it allows you to breath, although it’s triggered by somthing else that might help ) Well, if it DOES have a magnetic atmospere then you know how magnets retract from each other?? Well, what if some kind of technoligy had made the other magnetic pull. That could lock the TARDIS OUT. I think… just a thought..

    • Obsie

      January 4th, 2014 - 12:41pm

It is a very good thought. We know the TARDIS can extend an atmospheric field to let people see things with their own eyes rather than rely on a scanner, or in Rory’s dads case Brian, have picnic on the step in “Dinosaurs on…” Also as demonstrated in the 50th, two Doctors using the same sonic; one reversing the polarity while the other sonic reverses the action of the first one therefore it has no effect on the portal. However, considering the VERY long history of the Time Lords I doubt that magnetics would be problem for them; arrogance yes but magnets; after all holding a black hole in stasis is no mean feat (I assume).

    • Obsie

      January 4th, 2014 - 12:47pm

Sorry, besides which, the First Doctor did state that his people had reduced things of science “to a game for children” on his planet. However he could have been telling one of his porkies way back then as well; after all he was well known for it : TARDIS fluid link as an example. I suppose we will never know!

    • RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND

      January 4th, 2014 - 1:41pm

TARDIS proof is a good idea, but Moffat has a habit of saying things that sound cool but not explaining sometimes.

      Five Doctors – The TARDIS couldn’t escape…

As for Kamelion, perhaps, in an unseen adventure, he managed to escape the confines of TARDIS corridors. Maybe the Doctor took him out for “Walkies”…?

    • 100000BC

      January 4th, 2014 - 4:55pm

It’ll be something to do with temporal distortion on a magnetic field with spacial co-ordinates hidden from the computing devices of a type 40 TARDIS. Or something.

    • Obsie

      January 4th, 2014 - 7:22pm

The Five Doctors: the TARDIS couldn’t escape because it was one of their own and could easily be frozen, they have done it before and Rassilon did appear wearing the coronet (despite Borusa having one)so he could over-ride Borusa’s one, apart from the Brigadier’s head! Kamelion seemed to sitting in a position as he did in “The King’s Demons”. And only a mad man with box (or Barbara Woodhouse) would take him walkies”. The final one, if a machine can be devised to travel through time and space I doubt that everything else would not have been taken into consideration. The mathematic/scientific/interstellar engineering calculations would compensate for something as simple as magnetic fields within space time co-ordinates. Over 10 million years of evolution of a higher species on the verge of becoming a new species existing of thought and no need of bodily form would overcome magnetic fields. The conclusion has to be the TARDIS was is for repairs and was wonky. Why couldn’t Steven Moffat simply have said that? Douglas Adams would.

Or it could be that Mr Capaldi simply hasn’t learnt which buttons/controls/switches are meant to what yet! Ah well, at least he’s got 9 months to brush up on old episodes. He would do well to watch “An Adventure in…” and follow William Hartnell’s example.

moffat killed the doctor when he changed his past. 50 years and moffat rewrites the doctor and removes the darkness we all related to.
it’s like changing hamlets past so his father the king don’t die and hamlet doesn’t suffer. – hamlet would no longer be hamlet or make any sense at all.
bbc needs to sack moffat now and give the doctor his “soul” back.

    • badbbc

if anyone has their history rewritten – then they die and a new person is created.
to change such a well established and loved character after 50 years, is a crime.
it’s like hamlet or any other well know character, you cannot change the past and keep the character, moffat murdered the doctor for plot effect – a pitiful weak writer concept.
taking the radio active spider out of spiderman and keeping him singing “catches thieves just like flies” and flying on web strands makes a complete mockery of spiderman.
or rewriting sherlock – changing his past would destroy the real sherlock, replacing him with all new sherlock. if they send sherlock back in time and give him a wife and children – then the character is killed and replaced – jhon no longer lives with him and never can / should have – the entire back story is disrespected and destroyed without any respect for those who added to the story along the way.
moffats shameful treatment of 50 years of history and disrespects all previous writers and actors, as it makes a mockery of them.

I find it so ironic tht so many DW fans are stuck in the past. The show is all about change and evolution…thats how its lasted so long. I believe SM is by far the best writter the show has had and he has injected it with life…as he has with Sherlock.

With a show like DW, no writter will please everyone and although it quite clear that its only a tiny minoity of fans that dislike his work…they do a lot of shouting about it…its about time those that are happy with the show shouted a lot more – all the “Im cool becuase Im going to say I hate the show” type comments are a little bit samey, unfounded and tiresome.

Hang on, what has Moffat re-written that “kills” the Doctor? The only thing that’s changed is that he didn’t actually destroy Gallifrey but still took it out of the game for the most part. So that’s what, 8 out of 50 years tops. And it doesn’t really change anything anyway, beacaue the 9th and 10th Doctor’s STILL think that Gallifrey was destroyed.

insults and attacks… you’re not very pleasant are you. attacking people that don’t agree with you. very dogmatic and unnecessary.

the point of the doctor is that he changes people through manipulating the time line. he is a time lord, and lords of time don’t answer to time. the entire idea of rewriting a time lord is in contradiction to the entire ethos of time lords.
it is a mistake, and has destroyed the integrity of the doctor.

We all have our own opinions so I’m not judging you, but that is an overreaction to something which mildly changed the character The Doctor became over the past 8 years; and considering it’s been going for 50 years now it really wasn’t a hard core, major, solid piece of his character anyway; and he already had darkness in him anyway

and TBH this constant negativity is beginning to grate

I don’t think Steven Moffat has been doing AN AMAZING job as – well – his job. He has changed Doctor Who SO badley, that now EVEN OLD PEOPLE have to watch the new eps. to join up the dots… well I s’pose thats why people make TV shows.. to get views… BUT STILL

    • 100000BC

      January 6th, 2014 - 4:11pm

THE DOCTOR has NOT been rewritten, because he didn’t have the TIME WAR before Eccleston/Hurt (when he was still the Doctor), and he didn’t mention the Time War much as Smith (when he was also The Doctor). Therefore the saving of Gallifrey only removes a minor inconsistency in the character of The Doctor, who, in his Fourth incarnation, refused to avert the Daleks’ creation, and always despaired of resorting to killing..

I liked Time of the doctor, but it seems every time he regenerates these days he’s got to make some grand stand of it as if he’s about to die of cancer or something. He’s not dying, he’s regenerating. He’s not going anywhere. He’s still the doctor. In the old days, he’d just unexpectedly regenerate if he was close to death which is the whole point of regenerating. I don’t like the grand standing.
Also, I could be wrong, but I seem to have a slight memory of Tom Baker once saying that he had 8 regenerations or was I just dreaming. Much more recently it’s been established at 13, so what now. In time of the doctor, clara begged the time lords to help the doctor, so did they change the rules to allow the doctor to go on. Does he have more regenerations now.

And it would have been so nice to see the 11th Doc go up against villains like The Master & Davros! I disagree – the monsters of the 70s and 80s were largely laughable…even for the time. The 60s shows fair pretty well (the ice warriors were a joke tho), but the production quality of the 70s and 80s was very poor even for the time. Although it’s sad to say, one of the best things that happened to the show was it getting axed otherwise we could still be watching a second rate sci fi show instead of the slick high end show we have today. It’s not without flaws, granted – there has been some shockers (esp in the David Tennant/RDT) era but on the whole I’d say the percentage of quality stories per series is far greater than it was in the old days. As a kid of the 70 and 80s I recall being scared of the show but watching those old shows as an adult now is extremely painful and I know my kids wouldn’t find the show from back then scary…they’d be too busy laughing at the wobbly sets and whilst trying to focus on long drawn out and padded stories. Whereas as we both get freaked out by the current shows which intend to be scary – the show is more than just ‘freak of the week’ so some stories don’t need to be scary. As for Time of the Doctor…. It was always going to be on a hiding to nothing after that wonderful 50th special but I think it was for the hard core fans who wanted answers from the past couple of series. It wasn’t brilliant but it was needed and fairly well done – 7/10.

I still enjoy Doctor Who enormously, more so than in the David Tennant era, and find it just as terrifying. As much as I enjoyed The Time of the Doctor, though, revelations were way too rushed. The regeneration was excellent though.
I would love it if two-parters returned in Series 8. The best thing, though, is to move on with the show, which is the theme of the Eleventh Doctor’s final speech. After all, the show is about change, and will never stop changing.

In the classic Doctor Who era I thought “Terror Of The Autons” was genuinely scary.Especially the chair swallowing scene while the( in my view) best Master,Roger Delgado, looked nonchalantly on and the small Auton doll coming to life to claim it’s victim.

In the classic era visibly bad things could and did happen to people and potentially everyone else before the Doctor saved the day. I thought Mark Gattis’s “Cold War” had elements of that and that’s maybe because he’s also a big Horror fan.

My husband and I have high hopes for Capaldi. He brought gravitas to The Fires of Pompeii and Torchwood: Children of Earth. Even though we’re a bit put off by the overuse of the Darrin Effect by the Beeb. Okay, so technically it’s not really the Darrin Effect, but it’s similar. The Darrin Effect is when a role is recast. Yet, the Beeb is famous for “recycling” actors/actresses. Here are several examples… Please let me know if there are any instances that I’ve overlooked/failed to mention.

    1. Freema Agyeman starred in Army of Ghosts as Adeola Oshodi to be recast as Martha Jones. They passed it off as Adeola having been her cousin, as Martha mentions in Smith And Jones.

    2. Peter Capaldi and Karen Gillan both starred in The Fires Of Pompeii. Although, Karen’s role in Fires was minute and most people probably didn’t recognize her with all of the makeup.

    3. Peter Capaldi also starred in Torchwood: Children of Earth.

    4. Jessica Hynes starred in Human Nature and Family Of Blood as Joan Redfern. She was recast as Verity Newman, Joan Redfern’s granddaughter in End Of Time.

    5. David Bradley starred in Dinosaurs On A Spaceship and then he starred in An Adventure In Space And Time as William Hartnell.

    6. Jessica Raine starred in Hide and then she starred in An Adventure In Space And Time as Verity Lambert.

    7. Clara’s father was recast. He was originally portrayed by Michael Dixon in Rings Of Akhaten. He was portrayed by James Buller in The Time Of The Doctor.

As with any fictional movie/television show, it requires a certain suspension of belief/disbelief. Yet, the Darrin Effect makes it more difficult to suspend belief/disbelief. Obviously, in some cases… Like the case of Richard Harris passing away after Harry Potter And The Chamber of Secrets… Recasting is essential. Once Upon A Time also recast their Robin Hood. My husband and I just don’t like this kind of thing.

What Colin Baker – he actually shot the Fifth Doctor and then took his job.

Apparantly RTD had a reason for why he cast Peter Capalidi in DW and as another character in TW but never got around to putting it into a story line. However, even though he has now been cast as the Doctor, the theory still works and SM will be using it – so it will be explained why we keep seeing that face.

This has been happening since the beginning. Just look at The Keys of Marinus from 1964. John. Fiona Walker, who played Kala, later appeared as Lady Peinforte in Silver Nemesis. Francis de Wolff later played Agamemnon in The Myth Makers. Donald Pickering later played Captain Blade in The Faceless Ones and Beyus in Time and the Rani. Edmund Warwick later played a robot duplicate of the Doctor in The Chase.

This was also a common occurrence in Star Trek….it’s no biggie….

It’s going to be weird in the future and really quite utterly ridiculous to have the inevitable Doctor team ups in all the various mediums (mainly non TV mediums I’d imagine since all the classic Doctors will be long gone by then) when there’s upward of 20-26 Doctors all joining forces. I’d have thought the smart thing would have been to have the current show end with a couple more Doctors then in 10-20-30(?) years it can be brought back again for a new generation, ideally rebooted with brand new continuity and mythology. I mean really, the show will choke to death on its own mythos & nostalgia eventually.

I grew up watching the classic show and absolutely love Dr Who’s past and continuity. There’s nothing better than the little references to the classic show scattered here and there, and if the new show wasn’t linked to the old one I would never have really bothered with it. But eventually it will all be too much. What, we’re going to have a Doctor going round saying ‘I’m the 23rd Doctor.’ As the Doc himself said everything changes and ends. Even if it’s in 30-50 years it will need to end one day. But imagine how emotionally moving that finale will be!

The Doctor has always had some problems flying the TARDIS. The Doctor has taught others how to fly the TARDIS before, like Nyssa, Tegan, and Adric, and even the Cybermen were flying it in Attack of the Cybermen. It’s not like this is a new thing. Besides, she said herself that she never mastered and the TARDIS was flying the Doctor.

Nope, as David Tennant is my favourite Doctor, and I have seen at least 2 episodes for every doctor, I’ve seen all of Pertwee, and I’m two off of Baker, Davison, C.Baker and McCoy, so not ‘all’ of them are people who barely watch it .So don’t say that DT fangirls aren’t Doctor Who fans, as long as they watch, or watched, Doctor Who on a weekly basis.

    • JJ

      December 30th, 2013 - 8:54pm

I think each Doctor has a good quality about them, it’s just the stories. I didn’t like Sylvester McCoy much because hardly anyone did, then one of my friends from ages ago recommended The Greatest Show In The Galaxy and he is actually a very good Doctor, I thought, but it’s just ashame the stories weren’t as good. Eccleston is my third favourite Doctor and I think all of his stories have been the best, not one bad one yet, just matter of opinion thought. Best series, third best Doctor to/for me. David Tennant is second favourite, but not all his stories were good (to name a few: Fear Her, Gridlock, The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky). He is a brilliant actor and a brilliant Doctor. Now, Matt Smith is my favourite Doctor, yet out of the three Doctors of the revived new series, he’s had the worst episodes, series 7 part 2 is worst to date (some will disagree, but it’s my opinion) but he’s still my favourite Doctor (to name a few bad episodes: The Curse Of The Black Spot, The Doctor, The Widow And The Wardrobe, The Rings Of Akhaten, Nightmare In Silver, The Time Of The Doctor), but it is him that has made me still like the show, and Jenna Coleman just being there. Peter Capaldi, I was upset that he was cast, but I will give him a chance because he might actually be good, but it’s a shame, his Doctor might not be in with a chance, because the same writers from series 7 part 2 are coming back. I don’t think they’re good at writing Doctor Who, it’s just not their speciality, in my opinion. But let’s just hope Doctor Who crawls out of the dark pit that it is in now. Here’s to hoping series 8 is a gooden!

I think part of the problem is that, generally speaking, people tend to go with the Doctor of ‘their time’ and so having others take up the mantle can be hard. For me (and always will be)Jon Pertwee was the ultimate Doctor. He was the one that I remember most clearly as a child despite having seen them all. He brought action, science, humour and dynamicism all in equal measure. And yet he is in many ways a product of his time. As is every Doctor. There arent many ‘new Whovians’ who can sit through a 6 part ‘wobbly set’ series when they are used to the glossy, cgi 45 minuters. People must give PC the chance – for goodness sake, he’s only just arrived. Just consider yourselves fortunate that we have a Doctor at all.

Agreed. Russell was good, but there was a magic wand/Deus ex machina at the end of most stories and every series finale had to be bigger and better, that’s what spoilt it. I just wish he didn’t think he had to give too much to us, because we’d just be happy with his writing and a brilliant story, even if it had very little characters in, because he is just such a talented writer.

    December 30th, 2013 - 2:18pm

The Christmas episode left more questions than it answered, and a very thin plot just so the Timelords could grant our valiant hero a new Regenerative life cycle.

I agree with many of the above, how could Smith have healed River Song’s wrist by using Regenerative energy if he was on his last life? Makes no sense. You could have argued that by River giving up her own regenerations to save the Doctor that he was returning them to her, but that was never made clear.

The whole new regeneration life cycle could have been feasible if it had been granted to ALL Timelords during the Time War, thus making the John Hurt “War Doctor” the new ‘first’ in the lifecycle. This way Smith would have only been the new “Fifth” Doctor (Hurt 1, Ecclestone 2, Tennant 3, Tennant 4), and when the Timelords eventually get “rescued” by the Doctor (as they inevitably will now) then as gratitude they could have reset his clock again – after all, Regeneration is obviously a Timelord gift and not a biological condition.

What was the point of the Silence, Weeping Angels & Cybermen et al in The Time of the Doctor? Served no purpose to the story, and since when did Daleks sit around and wait whilst their “enemies” congregate around them, only to seemingly destroy them later on (again, what relevance to the story)?

As for the regeneration scene itself – Oh my, how disappointing was that? Smith could have gone out in a blaze of glory destroying the dalek ships as he regenerated whilst his face rejuvenated and then changed slowly into Capaldi, but no, a quick glow/flash in the TARDIS and he was gone – No chance for the audience to experience the emotion of say Tennant’s/Ecclestone’s – Hell even Pertwee’s departure (and that was a weak regeneration), and the anticipation of the face changing/morphing into that of a new Doctor. I was left deeply disappointed.

I look forward eagerly to Capaldi’s first real outing and have high hopes for his interpretation of the galant Time Traveller from Gallifrey, but Moffatt really needs to step back from some of the writing and concentrate on the show runner role. I’m sure there must be some great stories coming through from the likes of Gatiss/Gaiman, or why not pick the brains of some of the Big Finish writers – they’ve produced some quality adventures which could translate well to the screen (admittedly there have been some awful ones too), but my point is there are talented writers out there who are also fans of the show, so Moffatt doesn’t need to keep throwing his hat in the ring – Hell you could even get Russell T. to get his writing head on again now that he has more time to concentrate on the writing without worrying how it all needs to come together.

Blimey, I got a lot to answer here.
      Aaaaand here we go.
When the Doctor was poisoned in LKH, regeneration was disabled. We know that River gave up all her remaining lives and all of them together was enough to save him. He only stored enough of it afterwards to possibly regenerate once and River knows this, which is why she gets so angry when he uses up that small bit of energy, just giving him not enough energy to even regenerate once. The most likely answer is that Moffat hadn’t realised that Smith was the last Doctor yet and its a continuity error, but still the fans can make plausible reasons up.
Your second point isn’t even a question so it can’t have been “unanswered”, its just you stating your opinion of what you wanted to happen which I’m sure many people would have found a cop-out as this “new cycle from the time war” would have had to have been addressed in at least 2005 to exist, so how on Earth would Moffat address this now? Why doesn’t The Doctor remember this?
The “point” of the enemies wasn’t necessarily for the plot to move forward. They were there so Smith’s finally was rounded off with all his enemies from his era being there for the send off. They were for cameos more than anything else as a collective enemy. The Angles and Cybermen weren’t in it much because they weren’t meant to be, they were CAMEOS. The Daleks sat there because they are clever, not bumbling war machines who just run forward shouting exterminate. They realise that they can get these other species to fight FOR them first, tiring out The Doctor or even breaking his defences and possibly killing him first! When they all die out, THEN they attack with full force.
I found the change too fast at first, yes, but people need to let it go. Although it was anti-climactic, it made sense. Smith DID regenerate destroying a Dalek fleet in the biggest regeneration yet, but that was what started the reset which is necessary before the face changes. every moment he has in the TARDIS afterwards, he is STILL regenerating, and breaking in a whole new life cycle. So really, Capaldi’s face was waiting already in his genes, ready to pop out any moment. So the actual regeneration WAS the scene at the bell-tower.
In reality, that’s ONE question in your list left officially unanswered which is the River Song and the broken wrist thing (which has been mentioned many a time before and is nothing new, we’ve heard it all before)but I agree that I would like to see a wider range of writers. I’m surprised that you didn’t bring up the point “Why could Tasha pilot the TARDIS?” which again is officially unanswered, but my reason would be that the destination was pre-set as the last travel in the TARDIS, so she could easily just pull a lever and it was away, but that is the only other point I could find (other than the fact that we have gone back to the 2005 Daleks for some reason…)

Whovians these days are absolute moaners! I know it is a matter of opinion but a true Whovian like Matt Smity would enjoy the episodes no matter how bad they are, they would love the Doctor for who he is, not who plays him. They certainly could cry at the loss of one of the Doctor’s lives because we loved the new aspect he has brought to the show, but they should always be excited about what this new Doctor will bring. I have found pretty much every episode I’ve watched of Doctor Who brilliant, with an exeption of only a few, like Curse of the Black Spot etc. A true Whovian would think they’re way out of plot holes to seal them. In my opinion, I think The Time of The Doctor is one of Steven Moffat’s greatest stories, making me laugh and cry at the same time. If there are major problems, like no paradigm daleks, then just wait and hope, really hope, that things will work out.

DO you know how River Song was in David Tennant’s episodes, and they brought her back in Matt Smith’s reign, they might also bring Jenny back in Peter Capaldi’s reign (I think peter capaldi will be rubbish, he doesnt even compare to matt smith) And you know in the very first episode, the doctr’s companion is his grnad daughter, that means hes had kids, but why dont they tell us who thy were? in the classic ones?

Your name says it all, “MattSmithisthebestdctor”.
How dare you say ‘He doesn’t even compare to Matt Smith’. If anything, he will be better than Matt Smith.
Why? Because he’s an extremely well established actor, and has won BAFTA’s before, as well as comedy awards.
You’re probably too young to appreciate such greatness. Go and watch some of his material. Peter Capaldi is one of the best actors in this country.

Oh, and watch some classic Who.

The Jenny idea was just in hope to make a spin-off series, that’s what the point of the episode was really and it epicly failed. Not a too bad episode though, but not great either.

Please can someone explain to me if Matt Smith’s doctor had no more regenerations left before the Time Lords intervention, how he started to regenerate when River shot him in the Impossible Astronaut?

It was revealed in ‘The Wedding of River Song’ that the regeneration in ‘The Impossible Astronaut’ was nothing more but a trick because it was not the real Doctor who River shot in the Astronaut space suit, it was the Teselecta robot which can disguise itself as anyone, so the real Doctor had the miniaturized people inside it miniaturize him when they brought him inside their Robot, along with his Tardis, and then disguised their Robot as him, so it’s him who get’s shot by River Song, not the real Doctor.

Re-watch ‘The Impossible Astronaut’ and ‘The Wedding of River Song’ if you own series 6 on DVD.

Yes I do agree with “MattSmithisthebestdoctor” (apart from the fact it’s actually Patrick Troughton). The REAL Eleventh Doctor (or 13th) DID use SOME regeneration energy to heal River Song’s broken hand during the series 7a episode “The Angels Take Manhattan”. If the Tennant-Tennant regeneration counts, then surely he can’t have had enough regeneration energy to heal River’s hand.
