Matt Smith Misses Out on BAFTA Award

Matt Smith Misses out on BAFTA award

Matt Smith has lost out to Daniel Rigby in this years BAFTA awards for best actor.

The nominees were…

Jim Broadbent – Any Human Heart

Benedict Cumberbatch – Sherlock

Daniel Rigby – Eric and Ernie

Matt Smith – Doctor Who

The obituary show reel ended with Elisabeth Sladen but left out Nicholas Courtney which considering his contribution over the years was rather un-called for.

Matt Smith Misses Out on BAFTA Award

I have recently become a huge fan of “Doctor Who”. I am from the US and hadn’t gotten to see the show before, but I now am able to get the BBCAmerica channel (thank you!) I have only seen Matt Smith, a few David Tennant eps.,and one Christopher Ecclesston. But, I have to say that I think Matt Smith blows the others completely away. He is absolutely brilliant as the Doctor. I love his quirkiness, he’s very funny, and yet can deliver the serious moments with a considerable weight and emotion. He can also be more…um…formidable than the other two, as well. I am surprised that he did not win this award, but that doesn’t mean anything really. All the fans know he’s the champ! P.S. Hey, Directors or Producers: I really liked his darker, slightly longer, messier hair (hanging in his eyes sometimes)like he had in the beginning…like a genious professor who doesn’t have much time to think about his hair and appearance! Ha!

this is an outrage i hope he is happy doctor who is the best in my opinion and that will never change.

Who is happy? It depends on the person really Steven Moffat for example says that he knows he was “going to lose no matter what potentially twice, and that’s exactly what happened” (and that was just the NTAs).

It was great to see a tribute to Elizabeth sladen but not recognizing Nicholas Courtnay was a bad move, he was as respected and admired for his work by the fans and his not being mentioned was bad!
    :(

There’s been an alarmingly small amount of response to Nicholas Courtney’s death, in terms of the BBC tributes etc. Such as shame.

I agree,i really hope they have something planned in an episode of something

I saw all of the performanaces except the winner. I happy for whoever he is

He was nominated! The first Doctor to be nominated for a national BAFTA. That’s a victory we can take away from this, it was an incredible strong short list and when you think of all the great actors who missed out you realise how great a victory it is that Matt had a look in. Tennant was never nominated so that should stump so arguements that Doctor Who has gone downhill after it losing out at the NTAs which are a popularity contest in comparison to the BAFTAs (both do have their merits though)

Agreed. I think this is a prod moment for the Show even though MS didn’t win he got nominated! That’s all that counts.

Good! I love Doctor Who, but Matt Smith is just not good. He tries to hard to play the lovable eccentric Jack Sparrow type character. It doesn’t work.

matt smith does try and can do some good scenes but there is just no emotion.

Im sorry, but who is Daniel Rigby?

Matt Smith should’ve won. i’m not just saying that cos i like dr who. im saying it cos hes my fav actor.

    • Posted by: The Dark Side of the Moon May 22nd, 2011

The award is not given based on fame…its given on talent…and if any of you had actually seen Daniel Rigby’s portrayal of Eric Morecombe, then you will know EXACTLY why he won. Four great actors were up for that award but in my opinion, the best man won.

    • Posted by: Drsuperwho May 23rd, 2011

I would have to agrre with The Dark Side OF The Moon, Eric and Erine is and was a masterpeice.
You don’t just win cos your famous….You win because your a great actor and many other great actors have missed out on Bafta’s. While he was the Doctor Tennant got not even a nomination!

Remember BAFTAs are voted by the academy that don’t watch popular TV programs.

Many of the nominations I have never heard of.

Come on the British Television Awards where the votes are made by the public.

    • Posted by: The Dark Side of the Moon May 22nd, 2011

Who was Matt Smith before he got this part…? Daniel Rigby is a little know but very talented actor.

    • Posted by: Anonymous May 25th, 2011

Matt Smith was already a pretty well known actor, although it was in thearter rather than on television we was better known.
