Tardis Sound Heard at Olympic Opening

Something “Doctor Who” at Olympic opening ceremony

The Tardis engines were briefly heard at the Olympic opening ceremony. Newspapers had reported the theme tune was on a list due to played at the event which evidently was untrue.

However videos taken by the public show that a montage of The Doctors was shown on a big screen at rehearsals.

Recorded TV Videos of the Tardis sound have been blocked.

Hopefully there will be more tonight in the closing cermony. I heard that it will be all about british music, so we could hear the theme tune!

Yeah, there’s an “Original British Drama” trailer for Doctor Who on Thursday at 8pm but they’re putting it on the official website in the morning. :)

Isn’t this obvious! It was the doctor travelling back in time to prevent himself from carrying the Olympic torch because Donna would see the Doctor and her mind would burn!!!

I missed it and am very dissapointed that we got 4 bars of the Tardis noise. You could barely hear it.

Maybe there will be more in the closing ceremony??

I was watching it with my family (I’m the only one who watches Doctor Who) and I jump up from the couch I was laying on and yell “THAT WAS THE TARDIS” so my sister rewound it, I pointed it out, and they said it was just the song but NO I WAS RIGHT I KNOW THE TARDIS WHEN I HEAR IT.

    • Posted by: Jana Rose July 29th, 2012

I did the exact same thing!! The fastest I’ve moved in a long time when I heard the tardis! To bad they didn’t do more about it though.

    • Posted by: Liz July 28th, 2012

EXACTLY. I won’t be too upset if it doesn’t happen though… but just the sound of the TARDIS is a good enough nod that I can be happy.

    • Posted by: Desariella July 28th, 2012

That’s what I said earlier. Or maybe if there is a DVD release of the Opening Ceremonies they will include a special extended version.

A lot of work went into those opening ceremonies. They were great. I really hope they do release a DVD version.

    • Posted by: goukisan August 8th, 2012

Desa….how can their be an extended version????????????????????????????????? What was cut was cut they didnt go redo it and film it to release it later… So things like the Dr Who segment getting cut arent going to miraculously appear in an extended version. You can tell movies from real right?

Lol @ Fox Moldur there’s different commentators for each country. That’s why you heard French ones and Ana heard Mexican ones and the Anon post heard Russian ones and I heard Ryan Seacrest (American.) That way everyone can understand it in their own language and stuff.

  13. Posted by: Desariella July 28th, 2012 Reply

I too wish the whole thing had of been shown. But at least we got to hear the TARDIS.

Maybe the Daleks will crash the games? Or maybe Doctor Who will have a presence at the Closing Ceremonies.

  14. Posted by: Canuck July 28th, 2012 Reply

In an interview, Boyle indicated that more of a Who reference was thought to be inappropriate given that Dr Who was created by a Canadian, not a Brit, and this would be confusing given that the last Olympics were in Canada.

    • Posted by: booboo July 28th, 2012

seems like the ceremony was cut short

    • Posted by: Rooners July 28th, 2012

“Rubbish music”…haha…the song that was playing at the time is pretty much the best song ever to come out of this country….but I do share your disappointment…never believe the hype. At the end of the day, the Olympics is the biggest global event in the world of sport…and, despite recent recognition in the US, Doctor Who is pretty much unheard of outside of the UK…so I am actually suprised it featured at all.

    • Posted by: booboo July 28th, 2012

      From Edward Russell ‏

A video montage which very briefly showed all 11 Doctors was approved but we were told it may not be included which was clearly the case.

apparently parts of the opening had to be cut short

    • Posted by: Desariella July 28th, 2012

I find it ironic that the TARDIS arrived during Bohemian Rhapsody. Which, Matt and Karen and Arthur sang at Comic Con.

      Coincidence?

I think not. The Doctor always says that there is no such thing as coincidences and everything happens for a reason.

    • Posted by: Blaine July 28th, 2012

      @Rooners

It should have nothing to do with the world. And actually, regardless of it being aired in other countries, Doctor Who is quite popular all over the world. Maybe not largely, but go on the internet and look around in Doctor Who forums and other places and you’ll find people from everywhere who love the show.

And regardless, the show is one of BRITAIN’S most beloved shows and has been airing for almost 50 years, either threw re-runs or actual series. It should have been given more recognition.

    • Posted by: Katie July 29th, 2012

I’m pretty sure I saw the fourth Doctor in the montage on the house, and I think they showed another of the older Doctors too.

I am American, but I was really hoping that as a British show, Doctor Who would have more recognition than it got. Maybe in the closing ceremonies…

    • Posted by: DaveBo July 30th, 2012

Someone described Doc Who as “pretty much unheard of outside the UK.” I disagree. From the US. We were a significant bunch of fans in 1981, and I think there are a LOT more around after the recent serieses. Woot!

    • Posted by: Desariella August 1st, 2012

In response to “Rooners July 28th, 2012: Doctor Who is pretty much unheard of outside of the UK”

What, are you serious? I live in Canada and I can tell you you are wrong. Doctor Who is big world wide.

  20. Posted by: Simon July 28th, 2012 Reply

The Doctor Who theme, along with a few others, WAS due to be played, but it was cut due to time constraints. The show over-ran so The Doctor Who theme, Coronation Street theme, Monty Python, Oasis’s Wonderwall song and one or two other bits were all dropped.

Danny Boyle was reported to be furious.

    • Posted by: McGann is the Doctor. July 28th, 2012

      Who is Danny Boyle ?

    • Posted by: Desariella July 28th, 2012

Too bad. Would have been great. Maybe someone recorded a rehearsal and we can see the bit that was cut?

  21. Posted by: GreenAnchorRedWaterfall July 28th, 2012 Reply

I was honestly thinking that guy would go out of breath and David Tennant in full Doctor Who style would take over. Clever cauldron, though, wasn’t it?

I think for a show that’s 49 going on 50 they should have done something on a bigger scale, like… a TARDIS being behind the tree or something Doctor who related.

    • Posted by: Romanadvoratrelundar July 28th, 2012

Noticed the noise. The Doctor could’ve been there, who knows? You know how he likes being in the background!

  22. Posted by: The Time Lord of Doom July 28th, 2012 Reply

Well that was dissapointing!!! Why would they put Harry Potter and not replace it with DW?? I heard the TARDIS, and I thought maybe it was on soon. But no, I wasted 3 hours of my life waiting for it. Ugh!!!!

  23. Posted by: thedarknight July 28th, 2012 Reply

Honestly, I felt that the inclusion was the perfect nod to the Doctor. Those who know him have all immediately recognized his materialization. But to those who don’t know him, it was merely noise and not enough to warrant further thought. (I mean, all the companions come running from blocks away when the TARDIS lands in a city, yet no one else ever takes notice). Plus, The Doctor has never gone out of his way to grab the limelight. He (mostly) just observes. So I think that was Danny’s way of letting us, those in the know, know that the Doctor was indeed there, and that if he had to step in to stop any threat, then we will never have to know. Because that is the true Doctor, the silent guardian.

    • Posted by: Adam July 28th, 2012

    • Posted by: Michael July 29th, 2012

Agreed. While it would have been incredible to have him land and emerge confused, or amazing to see him chasing Daleks around the arena, the subtle nod was absolutely perfect.

It would be nice if David lit the flame but I doubt it’s going to happen.

I just read what it is but it’s still quite good

  50. Posted by: Jason doctorwhoone July 27th, 2012 Reply

i had a sudden thought it might be a trailer for series 7 as the moff said we would be getting a new trailer soon which would be even better than the clips at comic con. but whatever it is i cant wait to find out. also perhaps it could be a new exclusive mini episode

    • Posted by: Victini2012 July 26th, 2012

      It’s not any of those!

  60. Posted by: Bigger on the Inside July 25th, 2012 Reply

As the ‘stage’ is the British countryside, how funny would it be if loads of daleks came started shooting and blowing it up (fake explosions obviously) then a tardis is lowered down, and the torch bearer comes out and lights it!!! And all the daleks go!

    • Posted by: Anonymous July 27th, 2012

i thought that’d be hilarious..and some of those outfits looked a bit like dalkeks!!

    • Posted by: NotADalek September 8th, 2012

Somehow, you turned out to be right about it being “not much at all”. Do you have a TARDIS?

  62. Posted by: Jason doctorwhoone July 25th, 2012 Reply

The events of the Doctor Who episode ‘Fear Her’ take place during the events of the opening ceremony this Friday, so soon we’ll be getting a visit from the 10th Doctor and Rose Tyler, and see the Doctor on live broadcast taking the Olympic Flame from an exhausted runner and simultaneously light the flame for the London Olympics while also helping the Isolus return with the rest of her kind.

I’m defiantly going to be watch that episode this Friday then :)

    • Posted by: Allie July 27th, 2012

Also, everyone will disappear for a few moments there, BUT NO WORRY!

  63. Posted by: Doctor Stu July 24th, 2012 Reply

The Crowd inside the olympic stadium will completly dissapear, the troch bearer will be stuck by lighting and David Tennant will pick up the flame and light the cauldron thus releasing an isolus pod into the sky.

    • Posted by: The Master July 25th, 2012

  68. Posted by: cybermat6 July 24th, 2012 Reply

i dont know if this is right but i think Karen Gillan will be lighting the torch.
