Caroline Skinner steps down as Executive Producer

Caroline Skinner steps down as Executive Producer of Doctor Who

From The BBC Press office…

BBC Cymru Wales confirms that Caroline Skinner has decided to step down as Executive Producer of Doctor Who. Caroline joined the show in 2011 as the Executive Producer alongside Steven Moffat and is now set to join BBC Drama Production in London.

Caroline Skinner says: “It has been an honour to have been a part of Doctor Who, and a privilege to have worked with Steven Moffat and Matt Smith on this extraordinary show. I have hugely enjoyed my time in BBC Wales and would like to thank Faith Penhale, and our wonderful production team for their unending commitment and brilliance. I will miss them all enormously, but I’m leaving Doctor Who in fine form, with the new series starting at Easter and the fantastic plans for the 50th Anniversary already underway. I am delighted to be now returning to BBC Drama Production in London as an executive producer, and the new opportunities and projects that will bring.”

Faith Penhale, Head of Drama BBC Wales adds: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Caroline for her contribution to Doctor Who since taking on the role in 2011, on behalf of both the BBC and the show. She leaves the show in good shape – there’s a brilliant new series starting on Easter Saturday that will see the official arrival of the Doctor’s new companion! And the 50th Anniversary plans are on track to deliver audiences an unmissable event! I wish her all the very best for the future.”

Faith Penhale will take over as the executive producer on the 50th Anniversary with immediate effect.

Caroline will continue working on BBC Two’s one-off drama An Adventure In Space and Time which forms part of the BBC’s celebrations to mark the 50th Anniversary.

The recruitment process for a new executive producer for the next series will start shortly.

Actually, if Moffat were to step down, the BBC would find a replacement for him very quickly, of course they have someone to fall back on, what company wouldn’t?

The parting of the ways has come over the casting of David Morrisey as the 12th Doctor!

Well that is your opinion jnr_noble. But I stand by my opinion that moffat is crucifying the show

If moffat left then there wouldn’t be a doctor who show any more, yes its sad that caroline is leaving and yes it is strange that she left right before the filming of the 50th anniversary but maybe we should count our selves lucky that moffat hasn’t left because if that happened they would have to delay the 50th anniversary or just cancel it plus I happen to like the whole DOCTOR WHO question… Goodbye caroline, hope that this opportunity means greatness for your life

Why did she leave. Can’t Moffat for gods sake. He is killing doctor who, and the whole “first question” thing is stupid because. If you find out his name and who he is. What is the point of the show. It is called doctor “WHO” remember

You can find me on their under the same username, or just by looking up the site and then just type in the title of your Dalek story. Hope you like the picks, full credit to your awesome story offcourse and your good self 😉

Well im open to be exec, ive been a director of an animation department once not much different its all about knowing what creativity will work and how much it will entail and getting the best from it and its budget.

but it is a shame she is going so soon it was probably a better job offer but since she came on board she has helped rain back Doctor Who out of the tangled web of confusing story arcs that Mr Moffat was subjecting us too.

To be honest, DWM have got a lot to do at the moment with the death of Ray Cusick and the magazine special coming out this month.

    @ The Great Intelligence.

I seriously hope Matt Smith isn’t leaving. I’d honestly hate it if he did. I’m tired of having Doctor’s who only stay around for 3-4 years. Why can’t we have a Doctor like Baker who stays on for a little bit longer. I’m not suggesting Smith stays on for 7 years (although that would be cool) I just want to see him stick around a little longer.

sometimes money isn’t everything and maybe she is leaving for family but as i said somethings not right. first piers wenger and beth willis leave okay 2 years is long, but caro announcing to be leaving less than a week before filming starts on the 50th special seems strange to me.

as i respect your point, i have 2 things to say:

    1. Julie garderner (is that how you spell her name?) stayed for 5 years with russel, not just 1 year like skinner.

    2. Have you seen how much these producers get payed! I would not use family as an excuse to give up how much they get payed!

Dr Jake Young – She may not have had a falling out with Steven Moffat or anyone else. Maybe she’s just tired of working on the show, cos you have to remember they spend like 9 months of the year working on the show, and means not seeing much of family and friends, which for all we know probably feels like working in a labour camp when working on Doctor Who, cutting you off from loved ones etc.

i think they must have had a falling out or something. This new one better stay AT LEAST till matt smith leaves in about 2 years.
