Richard E Grant Cast In Christmas Special

Casting news – Richard E Grant In Christmas Special

Filming of 2012’s Doctor Who Christmas episode starts this week with two big film and television stars joining the show.

Richard E Grant, actor, author and director, has starred in over 80 film and television hits including Withnail And I, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Jack & Sarah, Gosford Park and The Iron Lady.

He is no stranger to Doctor Who – Richard E Grant has played “The Doctor” twice, once in the Curse of Fatal Death and as the Ninth Doctor in animated webcast Scream of the Shalka.

On joining the show, Richard says: “I played Doctor Who in the digital animated Scream Of The Shalka and I’m honoured to be in the Christmas Special.”

Tom Ward, who has starred in BBC One’s in Silent Witness as Harry Cunningham since 2002 also joins the Doctor, played by Matt Smith, and his new companion played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.

It is written by Steven Moffat and directed by Saul Metzstein. It will be shot in Cardiff at BBC Wales’ studios.

Doctor Who is coming soon to BBC One and the Christmas Special will be followed by a further eight episodes next year.

The plot for ‘Dinosaurs on A Spaceship’ from wikipedia

When in Egypt with Queen Nefertiti, the Doctor receives a call about a spaceship which will crash into Earth in six hours. Taking Nefertiti with him, he picks up an Edwardian explorer and his companions Amy and Rory ten months after he last saw them, accidently taking Rory’s father Brian on the TARDIS as well. They land on the spaceship and come face-to-face with ankylosaurus dinosaurs.

he could come back as a previous incarnation as the first master we saw was his 13th self. plus i don not think that john sinmm’s master is dead, not yet…

  • the master

    August 6th, 2012 - 9:11am

they could also turn it around,it could be that the master brainwashed rassilon in the time war and rassilon was then bad and created drums for the master,so then they could come back and when they did the master would trick the doctor pretending rassilon did it,when his true plan was to return to gallifrey and become president taking over rassilon or killing him someway.some may agree, some may disagree

    August 6th, 2012 - 8:56am

i was meant to say best friend and archenemy

  • the master

    August 6th, 2012 - 8:45am

not everything is true plus they can bring him back before the time war happened and why would you kill the best villian on the show and make him a hero and not bringing him back would ruin everything, why would you make the main villian in the show a hero,he may have been angry at the time because he was mad,but he may return and be the proper roger delgado look alike master, which would be awesome .the master is never dead.he will return he will return he will return,he will return

Loved him in Scream of the Shalka, the Doctor that never was, would be nice to have an in-joke to that in the special, just for the fans… 🙂

and that invention was made by russel t davies.it was not in the old series at all.so maybe there are 2 masters and how do we know it was the real rassilon.it could have been another one and in the old series rassilon did not brainwash the master.it’s only since the time war it’s happened.plus time was rewritten in the big bang.i may not be correct about it.but how do we know it was rassilon.it most likely is.but what if that rassilon was the master and he created a fake master in derek jacobi, john simm and the master was on gallifrey and pretended to be rassilon and brainwashed the doctor to believing he was rassilon.when in fact he was the master and he created a clone with regenration pretending to be the master when in fact it is someone else.it’s just a guesss.but surely the best doctor who villian can’t all of a sudden become a hero.it would ruin everything that the old writers did and it is not right to do that.long live the master as he returns and you will all obey him

NO he is dead, END OF.

  • the master

    August 6th, 2012 - 8:32am

nope the master is the doctor’s arch enemy and still is that was r t d era.steven moffat may want to bring him back as a villianand i want the master back as a villian.he was a villian for a long time.there not going to make him good all of a sudden.just because he was brainwashed by rassilon does not mean he still can’t be a villian and i like the master very much and the master becoming a hero would ruin the show and he has to come back for the 50th anniversary as a villian.because he is the best villian.if he does i hope he will look like roger delgado a proper doctor who villian look.not a mad prime minster who eats people.i hope he comes back

Sadly no, but Patrick is a fan of Doctor Who and has wanted to play a role in the series. He should get in touch with Steven Moffat and ask him for a part in an upcoming episode.

The Master IS DEAD, god how many times I’m I gonna keep saying that on this website ? !!!!.

The Master knows why he became evil all cos of Rassilon, he made the Master a victim of the madness in his mind, turning an innocent child into a power hungry murdering maniac, but once the Master realized what had happened to him all those years ago, he turned good in the end, saving the life of his old friend, the Earth, and the rest of the universe from Rassilon and the evil of the Time Lord as they became during the Time War, and dying with his people.

The Master is a HERO now, and he DIED a HERO, just let him rest in piece.

@Jason doctorwhoone Star Trek is lucky to have him, and he won’t be in Doctor Who, everyone knows by now that it’s very unlikely for him to do a regular or a supporting role in a TV show now, and yes he’s a brilliant actor. Feel very sorry for you (actually I don’t. :p), because he’s going to be in lots of great things from now on.
