January 2nd, 2012 - 5:46pmI’d give this one 7/10. I love Matt Smith, but not when he goes a bit childish. I’m looking forward to his third series, shame about the wait though.

December 30th, 2011 - 3:01pmI would have to say that even though it copies Narnia a bit, this is probably the best christmas special yet.

December 30th, 2011 - 9:18amI liked the episode! Shame about the wait for series 7

December 30th, 2011 - 12:02amThe only time I’ve ever properly wanted to hate Moffat forever is when he wrote the Rose reference in The Wedding Of River Song right before the Doctor received the phonecall concerning the Brigadier. What I saw online disgusted me!

December 29th, 2011 - 8:34pmIs it me or are the Moffat stories just trying too hard? It’s a shame because I truly believe Matt Smith is the best Doctor…ever, and I’ve been a fan for over 40 years. Why can’t we get some old fashioned stories that actually make sense, without the silliness and huge story arcs.

December 29th, 2011 - 7:28pmAgreed! 😀

December 29th, 2011 - 5:18pmi would probably rate this special 7/10
I thought that the opening 20 minutes were excellent( the pre-titles sequence, Madge helping the doctor, Reg’s plane going down the doctor showing Madge and the kids round the house etc, I also thought that the closing 7 mins, from reg returning from the dead until the doctors little tear were excellent, very very emotional, but the story with the forest and the trees and the wooden king and queen really didnt grab me and i felt it was trying too hard and didnt hang together very well, too many different elements clashing, i still think A CHRISTMAS CAROL is by far the best christmas special 🙂

December 29th, 2011 - 2:14pmClaire could have been better. She’s fine in Outnumbered but maybe this wasn’t for her. I have a feeling Bill Bailey, Arabella Weir and Paul Bazely had more scenes but were cut due to timing.

December 29th, 2011 - 1:14pmI liked it, and have any of you seen narnia? it wasn’t like this very much, other than in a box is a snowy forest and the youngest finds it first. And the title.

December 28th, 2011 - 10:05pmamy was in it so whats the big deal about it
McGann is the Doctor.
December 28th, 2011 - 9:00pmAgreed. I’m not testing you or anything, but what do you think would make an ideal christmas special ? Maybe, we should have …… ? 😀 Yes ? We should have……..
McGann is the Doctor.
December 28th, 2011 - 8:59pmI disagree with the latter. Matt Smith was brilliant, he was going at a hundred thousand miles an hour, Claire Skinner, was almost unwatchable. ❗
McGann is the Doctor.
December 28th, 2011 - 8:58pmThat was one of the redeeming factors of the special. The Doctor was great, being more sacrastic and whitty than ever ! (being a Sixth Doctor fanatic, I love it)
And it was well-made (apart from the CGI longshots of the spaceship, and the Tardis, ❗ ). The Monster-character looked stunningly real, as did the forests, the only real down-side to this special, was the guest actors. 😛
McGann is the Doctor.
December 28th, 2011 - 8:55pmThe Monsters aren’t really that important. And anyway, I thought their part in the story was good enough, the Wooden King was really scary !
And I have no idea how they did the monsters, got the mto move and look so real. It was scary when the King is awakend and goes up the staircase, towards our main characters.
But they turn out to be benevolent, not a threat, you see ? 😉

December 27th, 2011 - 6:14pmIt was ok. Funny, but nothing amazing.

December 27th, 2011 - 6:04pmhave to agree with you there! Moffats weakest script yet! (and I like Moffat! Don’t do this again Moffat) But I would give it a 6 instead just because Matt Smith was on fire with the material he was given.

December 27th, 2011 - 3:54pmHi, The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe was a good special but I think the Wooden King and Wooden Queen didn’t appear to be very threatening and they were underused in the fact that they put the relay on everyone and different times and that’s it. After that they just stand there and do NOTHING! But the overnight ratings are good and the final ratings will be around 10 million so pretty good. 🙂

December 27th, 2011 - 1:16pmeastenders was rubbish
Max
December 27th, 2011 - 11:13amI agree and the truth is it wasnt really written by the BBC most was written by Lewis Carrol. It was a copy of Narnia
dw2005
December 26th, 2011 - 11:28pmI would give the christmas special a 4/10 as it was written badly, but did have three good things that I liked in it. They are: The comedy, the ending and the reference to androzani back from 1984 with the fifth doctor.
I Love Cybermen
December 26th, 2011 - 1:49pmVery good ratings! I’m pleased- both with the excellent special but also such a vast figure of overnight viewers!
Harold Saxon
December 26th, 2011 - 12:24pmloved it,final figures will be more like 10 or 11 million in the end so not bad,it was an enjoyable special, matt smith and claire skinner were very good.
