Doctor Who Star 100
May 2nd, 2011 - 2:36pmit would explain a lot but it’s a bit of a random idea.

May 2nd, 2011 - 2:24pmThere are so many sites doing automated screenshots, about 2000 per episode that ours seem to be redundant so we probably wont be doing them in future

May 2nd, 2011 - 10:05ami think the girl is amys and rorys and the doctor some how got merger in or the tardis changed the baby and she will be a companion in the future and either become the next doctor or save the doctor by giving up her life somehow

May 2nd, 2011 - 8:57ami think the first 2episodes of series 6 are better than all of series 5 put together.

May 1st, 2011 - 11:53pmFascinating episode, very interwoven with references to the Silence in flashback to previous (last series)episodes. The aliens were very menacing and curious why they were wearing suits, seemed a bit incongrous but made them very menacing. The little girl at the end is I think River Song, so perhpas there are two time lords?
Mooncat
May 1st, 2011 - 10:54pmI also think there’s a lot of parents who are recording the show and watching after younger children have gone to bed – maybe vetting it for scariness before alowing their children to watch it, after all it was billed as one of the scariest monsters ever and much darker than usual

May 1st, 2011 - 4:37pmReally dont know why you seem to love to be fatalistic but have a look at the now confirmed figures for ep 1 which are nearly 9 million and in allignment with previous seasons. These overnight figures are more harm than good as they really do not tell people anything of value and seem to just start unnecessary misery.

May 1st, 2011 - 3:04pmsomeone very reliable with access to the final figures show that 8.9m watched The Impossible Astronaut, and that’s without i player, massive massive time shift.

May 1st, 2011 - 2:30pmI really liked it. It was streets ahead of most of the stuff last year. That said, I was a little disappointed that they rather skipped over last weeks cliffhanger, and I didn’t really understand why the FBI were chasing them at the begining. Still, I’ll watch it again later and hopefully things will become a little clearer. I like working things out gradually in any case.
The ratings were a little worrying thought. Some of slyvester McCoys stuff actually got higher “overnight” ratings ( videos recordings weren’t counted in the late 80s). The time slots too bloody early. I should be on after so you think you can dance not before.
We shouldn’t panic though. I honestly think the BBCs attitude to Doctor Who is different than it was in the late 80s and early 90s and so they will be more supportive of the show. In any case it seems hardly anybody watches anything any more, there are so many channels.
All in all a good two parter.

May 1st, 2011 - 1:33pmI to think the time slot for this new series should not be at 6pm but moved to eather 7pm or even 7.30pm so ppl can watch it. there are ppl i know that work until 6pm and by the time they get home its finished. 7 to 730 pm is a good time if the sun is out then ppl can spend time in it then get home to watch the show. So come on BBC move the time its shown.

May 1st, 2011 - 1:24pmIt was rather good better than some stories last year

May 1st, 2011 - 12:52pmThe overnights are low but for most of the week Dr Who was No1 watched show on the Iplayer so I think with the weather and the timeslot more people this year are time shifting their viewing. Even a few years back if the show was on earlier it really hit the viewing figures and far more use Iplayer now than then. I think sadly the Sci Fi fandom has tended to get a bit obsessed with ratings instead of quality. That is understandable as it can lead to cancellation on US networks but without needing to attract advertisers the BBC has a pretty unique position. I know it can get galling if the press or other websites cant get their heads around the fact that the way people watch TV has changed and do negative reporting but lets not get into a series long wringing of hands over how many watched and just go by the fact of did we like an episode or not. If TV was just about ratings we would never have anything but wall to wall reality shows and soaps. I do however think the TV exec that decided to commission the Hare thing and put Dr Who on at 6 needs to be tested for substance abuse.
The Dark Side of the Moon
May 1st, 2011 - 12:11pmI agree – whats with the 6pm timeslot? I for one cant watch the show that early so watch it later. For me a 7.30 slot is perfect.
Not that I really pay too much attention to ratings…but a drop might get us a later slot…

May 1st, 2011 - 11:26amA definatley better episode than last week.

May 1st, 2011 - 10:30amThe overnights dont look good admittedly but the Saturday line up is terrible, Dads army on BBC2 got nearly a million more viewers that than hare thing on bbc1, its not Doctor Who that’s the problem its the timeslot and the whole evening schedule

May 1st, 2011 - 10:23amInteresting, low figures but still 2nd highest for the day. Does anyone know how much overnight figures on TV have increased/decreased in general lately?
It always sounds like a con when people say to ignore the overnights, but it really does seem like more and more people are recording/ using iplayer as only reality talent shows and sports ever seem to do well on the night any more.
The Silence
May 1st, 2011 - 10:22amit was a good episode, considering the ratings, but it was the second most watched of the day.
The Silence
May 1st, 2011 - 10:21amquite bad, but at least it was the second most watched, that’s something! 🙂
