Doctor Who: The World Tour7 – 19 August 2014

From the official site…

Seven cities.

Five continents.

One Doctor.

Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman and Steven Moffat to circumnavigate the earth for fan events and publicity appearances in another unique first for a British TV show.

Following on from last year’s global smash-hit 50th anniversary, BBC Worldwide announce a major global publicity tour to launch the new series of Doctor Who and introduce Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor. Doctor Who: The World Tour will begin in the UK on August 7 and finish in Brazil on August 19.

The trip will see Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi, on-screen companion Jenna Coleman, and the show’s lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat*, visit seven cities across five continents in 12 days, where they will attend fan events and media interviews, publicising Series 8 to a global audience.

The tour marks the largest ever promotional undertaking in Doctor Who’s 50-year history and will kick off in Welsh capital and home of the series’ production, Cardiff, before taking in London (UK), Seoul (South Korea), Sydney (Australia), New York (US), Mexico City (Mexico) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). More details of the itinerary will be available from doctorwho.tv soon, as well as reports from the tour as it happens, which fans everywhere will be able to enjoy across social and digital platforms.

When will we know details about the tour Dates? I’m planning a trip to London in August, and I’m choosing flight and hotel depending on which day they’ll be in London…the 7th, 8th, 9th? Would be great to know soon, otherwise there won’t be any good flights left!

On an unrelated note, I recently found out that someone I work with is a lifelong Dr. Who fan and she’s watched it since she was a little girl, however she can’t place her first memory of the show, so this is where you lot come in. She’s pretty sure it was from the Patrick Troughton era as it was in black and white as she said her dad was a tv engineer so they would have had the ‘latest equipment’, so had it been Pertwee onward she would have probably had a colour tv. So her memory goes like this, there’s the back seat of a car and suddenly the characters in the scene notice this thing that she describes as a teddy bear only it wasn’t furry it was smooth but wasn’t clothed, it sounds like it probably the episodes cliffhanger, if anyone has any ideas on which episode it was and if the episode still exists I’d love to hear them.

I did think autons but that the only auton story I haven’t seen so I wasn’t sure if there was anything like that in it. Thanks very much, I’ll show her that picture and see if it jogs some memories.

Technically the TARDIS can’t go to New York, but The Doctor can
Just hope he uses public transport instead and New York will be fine… hopefully

    Nothing in Scotland?

Typical. Never mind that Peter Capaldi was born in Glasgow, Steven Moffat in Paisley, and that it was a Scot who invented television in the first place.

Well I would have thought it was good enough that two British cities had this thing when there are only seven in total. The birthplace and current home of Doctor Who seem as good a place as any.
