July 17th, 2017 - 4:57pmI think the 12th Doctor giving his regenration energy to Davors and also surpressing his regeneration will cause his next incarnation to be female

July 17th, 2017 - 4:52pmInfamy! Infamy!…They’ve all got it in for me!

July 17th, 2017 - 4:46pmYes. Myself and many fans consider the images of previous incarnations in ‘The Brain of Morbius’ to be Morbius previous incarnations, and not the Doctor’s.

July 17th, 2017 - 4:43pmTo me, The Doctor is a mixture of Mr. Chips and the prophet Job. He’s a quirky ‘Aspy’ kind of guy; an eccentric British professor. That’s why I’ve really liked Capaldi in the role. Almost as good as Pertwee. The problem with casting a female into the role is that all of those behaviors are most commonly found in males, not females (for example, two thirds of folks on the autistic spectrum are male, myself included). If Ms. Whittaker can play The Doctor as that slightly unempathetic, eccentric and sometimes very cold individual, then good luck to her, because if she can pull that off, she’ll deserve a BAFTA. If on the other hand, she tries to play The Doctor as a yummy mummy or as a feminazi, then for me the show is dead and buried.

July 17th, 2017 - 4:42pmAh yes…but they were sent back into the Time War. Gallifrey and the Time Lords were brought back for a one off epic finale for Tennant…then they were meant to be gone again.

July 17th, 2017 - 4:34pmSteven Moffat always said that he only ever wanted Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi!

July 17th, 2017 - 4:21pmNo that was never explained in the brain of morbius, who it was showing on the screen. In the five doctors it’s stated that the fifth doctor is on his fourth regeneration, so the first doctor is the first body from birth.

July 17th, 2017 - 4:09pmFor me its a case of the Doctor in the past 12 years hasn’t been the main character, the strong female companion has. She’s the one we follow, she’s the one we learn about and see develop, we experience the adventures through her eyes. Now that the Doctors a woman, I’d assume the companion will be male, (To me, it balances better on screen to have a male and female acting opposite each other in DW) which will probably mean we’ll now follow the strong male lead, learning about him and how he adapts to meeting this mysterious women who can travel in time, so I don’t think the Doctor being a woman now means we’ve got a strong female lead, I think it now means we’ve lost the strong female leads and now it will become more male.
I hope she does well and I hope this works. I am apprehensive, only because if this doesn’t work and it fails, it will fail massively and could jeopardize the show. If Doctor Who was to be cancelled again, I can’t see it recovering this time round.

July 17th, 2017 - 4:03pmSunday July 16th 2017.The day of infamy in the history of British Sci- Fi?

July 17th, 2017 - 3:28pmI think it would have probably have been too easy, if it was another man. With it now being a woman, it means the change is harder to go through, there is more things to discuss and to accept with this regeneration. Of course she is still the doctor and I bet within half an hour of her first appearance she will have won most people over. She will still have the same relationship with the TARDIS and her surroundings and I don’t think a character that does an awful lot of running would wear high heels, she will be practical & pragmatic as the doctor has always been. I think the publicity shot actually says everything about her, she has look of the weight of the universe is on her shoulders and every since of the word it is, as an actor & as the doctor to carry the role and the change over to a new era of Doctor Who.

July 17th, 2017 - 3:27pmExcept the last season quality wise was the best since about season 5 and viewers weren’t tuning in. BBC won’t rest it for the simple reason it’s one of their biggest money spinners

July 17th, 2017 - 3:19pmDoctor who is a show that constantly reinvents itself and the inclusion of a female doctor is no acception. The only thing that I ask is that the doctor remains with a British accent. The only thing.

July 17th, 2017 - 3:11pmA the end of the day you’ll never please everybody..I love Capaldi,I think the current series has been the best since “Old Who”,creepier with more of a Gothic feel about it..there were times during Tennant & Smith’s era when it felt like there was far too much emphasis on the sidekick & we were watching the Doctor in the middle of an episode of Hollyoaks.
I wish I was the “show-runner”..I expect most fans wish they were as we all have our own ideas of how it should be..we now just have to wait and see..it may just turn out to be amazing….

July 17th, 2017 - 2:50pmActually RTD brought the Time Lords back

July 17th, 2017 - 2:47pmSorry I meant Hell Bent not Heaven Sent. My mistake. (Tho not as big a one as making The Doctor female)
The Prydonian
July 17th, 2017 - 2:44pmIt’s been pointed out to me about the general in Heaven Sent changing that as if therefore it’s canon. Not a chance – that was a cheap unnecessary trick for laying the foundations for the Doctor to be female. I hated it. It added nothing to the story whatsoever and again Time Lord history was ignored to allow this to take place. Instead of post regeneration trauma etc, she gets up in clothes that fit and starts barking orders as if nothing had happened. Rubbish. Plus Ken Bones was a much better actor. Such a shame

July 17th, 2017 - 2:38pmThe writing has been appalling Mick181 I must agree.
The Prydonian
July 17th, 2017 - 2:37pmBattlestar is a different kettle of (Jim the) fish. It was a fresh reboot ( and brilliant) but this is the continuity of the central character. For me, being female almost doesn’t matter – it’s the disregard of established mythology for the sake of it.

July 17th, 2017 - 2:34pmGet watching the classic show cyberized you are in for a treat, with the odd exception. And don’t take it personally, emotions are high at the moment.

July 17th, 2017 - 2:33pmI think if this new take on Doctor Who isn’t a success, then they will shelve the series instead of casting someone else.

July 17th, 2017 - 2:28pmJust read the whole Jodie Whittaker interview and it appears she was going to get the role given by Chibnall all along? He asked her to audition for it at the beginning of the year!
So I am not convinced one bit she was the best actor for the part, I simply do not believe it now.
Two words come to mind……shoe horned.
I will still give it a go though, not giving up yet.

July 17th, 2017 - 2:23pmWe have some way to go then.
The Outcast
July 17th, 2017 - 2:23pmI consider 12 the last incarnation of Cycle 1, cause screw 10.2 being a Regeneration. If you think that counted, just fob of his extra Regeneration on the energy River gave him.
Anyway, the future is massively uncertain, this could be the of NuWho. Regardless, even if NuWho dies and we have another Hiatus, the show will return someday due to the dedication of its fanbase, which hopefully is alright.

July 17th, 2017 - 2:22pmHere’s a thought. A Time lord’s first regeneration cycle is always gender specific. The second more random. The Master, like the Doctor, gained a second set of 12 possible incarnations perhaps as a condition of fighting in the Time War. Making Derek Jacobi possibly the 13th Master ( #12 regenerating into #13 due to injuries sustained during the opening phase of the Dalek/Time Lord conflict perhaps )making Simm #14 and Michelle Gomez #15.
The Outcast
July 17th, 2017 - 2:16pmI’m with Boohoo on this. I am on the fence, I can see both yards, both throwing bile at each other. The only way to find out whether or not this was a success is to wait for Series 11 next April (hopefully). In the meantime, we still have 1 episode with 12 and Comic Con might yield some good Series 10 figures.

July 17th, 2017 - 2:01pmSydney Newman also considered bringing back Patrick Troughton in 1986. I think that was one of the proposals put forward to Michael Grade back then. Ha Ha…I could just imagine Newman and Grade sitting opposite each other in a restaurant, and it going much the same way as Alan Partridge putting his programme ideas to the BBC chief commissioner in ‘A Room with an Alan’…Monkey Tennis! 🙂
