Absolutely the BBC is terrible for its depiction of white men to them everyone else is fine , their the worse discriminators of them all. I’m done with the show it been spiralling into drivel land pretty much from series 6 onwards with its poor writing and overt political agenda.

Sure Moffatt will come up with an explanation in the Xmas special . I wouldn’t be surprised if she forgets all her previous incarnations altogether And sets off as if brand new.

I do wonder who young boys (many of who grown up in fatherless families and a highly feminised primary education system) will find to replace a valued popular male role model that doesn’t just fight and play football.

It’s only a theory. But all I’m trying to do is give people a reasonable explanation as to why the Doctor is now female, but hasn’t been before. A new regenerative life cycle clearly comes with new abilities and wider changes. The Time Lords have clearly been a dominate male domain for centuries. Later events clearly made them realise that a Time Lord needs connection to it’s male and female side. Maybe they felt a better and varied balance and approach would be better to defeat the Daleks and end the Time War?

Apologies, but if we don’t remember the mistakes of the past we will end up repeating them. I should probably refer to her as “She who will not be named”, but I’ll probably end up forgetting, I have a tendency to do that.

Why do you keep mentioning her name The Outcast? please stop….I can not stand to even hear the name 🙁

Fair point about The War Games. Good theory then.

Yes sad news about Trevor Baxter, but he had a long life. So many actors are dying at a great age. RIP.

Funnily enough, last night I thought I’d look for acting or interviews with Jodie Whittaker on YouTube. I was impressed. I actually felt she was more ‘Doctorish’ in interviews. I think she could surprise everyone and actually make the thought of a female Doctor very acceptable. If I was to compare her to her male counterparts, then instinct tells me she will be like a female version of the 5th and 10th Doctors.

In ‘The War Games’ at the Doctor’s trial, the Doctor is clearly only shown Male faces. Clearly at this point in Time Lord time, gender change wasn’t possible. This is a more recent occurrence and development, maybe something developed on both Gallifrey and Karn.

If anybody requires any reassurance of Jodies quality of acting then can I recommend ‘Adult life skills’ on Amazon Prime! It shows just what a great actress she is and gives a very good and committed performance that shows of some of the qualities and hat she will surely put into The Doctor.
It’s funny, sad and really is very good film too

Pats86..Yep this piece of stunt casting was a done deal for a while..the BBC just wanted a female in the role…it didn’t matter who the actress was…

I reckon changing the Police Box into a thinner, more Classic-esk Box would go down a treat with most people. And I think the titles are going to change. I mean, in the Moffat era they changed it 3 times, so for Chibnall not to do it, it would be a bit weird.

  • The Outcast

    July 18th, 2017 - 10:59am

Rumour has it Chibbers wants a writing room full of writers, which would be brilliant in my opinion, as then all the writers understand the plan and have an input and we wouldn’t get a repeat of Series 7 where no one knew how to write Clara.

  • The Outcast

    July 18th, 2017 - 10:56am

Nah, Moffat still wins. Clara took the Biscuit for ‘the worst thing in Doctor Who’.

  • The Outcast

    July 18th, 2017 - 10:54am

I would like to see a popular NuWho villain return, but one that doesn’t have many appearances. Something like the Judoon perhaps?

I like this theory lots. what I thought originally was that the more regenerations a time lord goes through the more likely they are to change gender because each regen could causes slight altering of their core DNA allowing for more and more change. And after 12+ regenerations the possibility to change gender increases.

  • The Outcast

    July 18th, 2017 - 10:49am

From what Whittaker said, it sounded like Chris Chibnall headhunted her to play the new Doctor. It might not be a case of ‘defo gonna be a woman not a man’ rather ‘I think this person is exactly what I want for the role’.

I agree, I’m not the biggest fan of Missy. She was alright in The Doctor Falls and Lie of the Land, but those are the only times I’ve not actually minded her.

  • The Temporal Jelly Baby

    July 18th, 2017 - 10:42am

In Hell Bent, the General said that her previous incarnation was the only time she had been a man. This may suggest that a change of gender isn’t actually all that common for Time Lords (so gender isn’t fluid as it has been suggested by some) and they tend to go back to their original gender afterwards. Also note how the guy next to her assumed the General would still be male. Though this is of course only going by one scene in the worst series finale of the show it does mean that the Doctor regenerating into a woman despite being a man in all his previous incarnations does make sense.

    July 18th, 2017 - 9:37am

I think in the first set of 12 regenerations the Doctor could and would only be male. I believe this the same of the Master. But during the ‘Time War’ people like Rassilon and the Master were resurrected. They and others are gifted a new set of regenerations, only this time, Time Lord technology has now made it possible to not only change face, but also gender. We know Missy is from the Master’s new regeneration cycle, and we now know the Doctor will be female from his new regeneration cycle. The original regeneration cycle doesn’t allow for gender change. It’s the next cycle of regenerations that allow and enable it. This is just a theory, but it would go some way to answering why the Doctor is now female, and hasn’t been before.

Ive never seen her so don’t know what she’s like as an actress, i have no problem with a female doctor but she feels like a generic choice like Kate Lethbridge Stewart. Could have picked someone a little more quirky but ill wait to see her in action.

Loved Jago & Litefoot, would brighten up my day listening to it whilst riding the bus to work, really sad.

Adam, what makes it worse for me is that it appears she was given the role from a mate, when you read her interview she was encouraged to go for the role long before auditions took place, call it a gimmick if you like, but it is a set up, none of the other actors had a chance?

As Colin baker said on his twitter she’s the doctor wether you like it or not

I feel the Doctor will be good as long as shes funny like Missy, serious like her 12th incarnation and has the personality of her former companion, who shall remain nameless as i dont want to be trolled

  • The Moffat Paradox

    July 18th, 2017 - 12:05am

Well the whole regeration lark started because of Bill Hartnell”s health at the time. Agree especially about the Tripods but for good or ill this has SEISMIC implications for the longest established Sci-Fi show in the world.
