Rufus Hound / Maisie Williams in Series 9 + 2 New Titles

Episode titles revealed The Girl Who Died by Jamie Mathieson & Steven Moffat and The Woman Who Lived, by Catherine Tregenna.

Having landed back in the UK fresh from touring the US, today Maisie Williams sets foot on the Doctor Who TARDIS to take up a guest role in the hit BBC One show that returns to our screens this Autumn.

Maisie has already found global fame and is renowned for her role as Arya Stark in the international fantasy drama series Game of Thrones. She also starred in the one-off docu-drama Cyberbully and was cast as one of the leads of Carol Morley’s drama The Falling. As well as beinga three-time Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee, in February of this year she was awarded with a Shooting Star Award at the Berlin Film Festival.

On her first day on set Maisie Williams said, “I’m so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it’s such a big and important part of British Culture. I can’t wait to meet the cast and crew and start filming, especially as we’ll be shooting not too far from my home town.”

Steven Moffat, lead writer and Executive Producer, added, “We’re thrilled to have Maisie Williams joining us on Doctor Who. It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways. This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.”

Bursting with drama, wit and heart, the show continues filming with two period adventures – ‘The Girl Who Died’ written by Jamie Mathieson and Steven Moffat, and ‘The Woman Who Lived’ by Catherine Tregenna. Starring Peter Capaldi (The Doctor) and Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald), the duo continue to time travel through epic adventures Directed by Ed Bazalgette (BBC One’s 18th Century drama Poldark).

Comedian and actor Rufus Hound who recently appeared in the series Cucumber also joins the guest cast alongside BBC Three’s Siblings and CBBC’s Horrible Histories star Tom Stourton, Ariyon Bakare, Simon Lipkin, Ian Conningham, Murray McArthur, Barnaby Kay, John Voce, and Struan Rodger.

Doctor Who has had a decade of success since its re-launch and is one of BBC One’s most highly regarded dramas. The much-loved brand is already a phenomenon delivering on a global scale, with the last series’ (series 8) consolidated average at 7.4 million.

Others have said that These episodes sound like an episode the trickster would be in from sarah Jane adventures,I do agree that it sounds like they could be,however what I’d really love is it to be a new companion who died but simliar to the episode Father’s Day,the doctor goes back and stops her death and changes history

Theory – according tho Steven Moffat she’s going to challenge the doctor is a big way and with the set photos on Instagram with the galifreyan seal maybe it’s a return of Omega or the Rani ?

  • The Werewolf

    April 3rd, 2015 - 9:37pm

Why do you think GoT is overrated?

If you take out the Moffat and leave it with the curds and whey. Mathieson was good last year.

The Trickster is a wonderful creation; it should definitely be in Doctor Who itself.

  • CJ

    March 30th, 2015 - 11:10pm

She does look like a younger version of Clara

  • The Dark Doctor

    March 30th, 2015 - 8:59pm

Clara has died several times. Her current self has had to grow up and so she is the woman who lived.

  • CJ

    March 30th, 2015 - 7:31pm

Maybe the woman who lived, I don’t know about the girl who died

  • The Dark Doctor

    March 30th, 2015 - 5:47pm

Presumably two Clara centered episodes (again!).

    March 30th, 2015 - 4:50pm

If I was Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs from ‘N.C.I.S.’ [Naval Criminal Investigative Service] I’d say “I don’t believe in coincidences” 😀

Maisie Williams’ work in Game Of Thrones is excellent. A very good guest to the series. I hope she gets a decent role with plenty of depth. Good stuff.

    March 30th, 2015 - 4:12pm

    March 30th, 2015 - 4:02pm

    So thats a two parter?
    Episode 3&4?

  • Doctor Stu

    March 30th, 2015 - 3:48pm

These two titles sound like a really good Sarah Jane Adventures episode with the Trickster

    March 30th, 2015 - 3:39pm

Rufus Hound ?? HA HA, the guy who messed up on ‘Doctor Who – Introducing the 12th Doctor’ or whatever it was that Zoe Ball was on to introduce Peter Capaldi to the world as the new Doctor.

I bet his still kicking himself for his mistakes that day 😀

No idea who the girl is thou, but I looked her up, and it seems she’s in that highly overrated ‘Game of Thrones’ . . . . . oh grief.

    March 30th, 2015 - 3:37pm

  • the astronaut of death

    March 30th, 2015 - 2:46pm

Bit confused . these 2 episodes are not 2 parters and they have different writers . But the titles of the episodes give a hint that they are connected .
