No full Doctor Who Series for 2012 – update

No full 2012 Doctor Who series

From Steven Moffat via twitter…

Dr Who: misquotes and misunderstandings. But I’m not being bounced into announcing the cool stuff before we’re ready. Hush, and patience.

lizo_mzimba said via his twitter feed that “There will not be a full series of Dr Who in 2012! BBC confirms that BBC One Controller said this earlier today”

The news was originally revealed by Wayne Clarke who was at a conference where Danny Cohen was speaking.

This may mean that although 14 new episodes are to be made, they may be spread over 2 years. This may be nothing more than a build up to 2013, the shows 50th anniversary.

He also said: “Worth repeating, BBC says Danny Cohen’s comment that Steven Moffat needed time for Sherlock hence shorter DW run wasn’t meant to be serious.”

later adding “Bit of confusion, to summarise: no FULL 13 episode series of Dr Who in 2012. So some episodes will still go out in 2012. Remainder in 2013.”

Because you know, money’s not at all important in creating an incredibly effects heavy scifi show.

KEEP ON YELLING, MAYBE YOU’LL FEEL BETTER.

Although, reading more about this “crisis”, it’s not too bad. It’s just like in 2009, and it will probably be exactly the same as that.

Steven Moffat’s gone a bit to far. If only Russell was back.

matt smith plays the young/old doctor perfectly. think he is good, like amy and rory was dressed as a roman after waiting for amy outside the pandorica. whats not to understand! don’t like splitting the show but just means something to look forward to in the autumn.

I miss RTD. He made Who epic without losing its true spirit. I do fear that once he’s done with Torchwood, we aren’t even going to recognize it. From what I’ve seen of Miracle Day, it looks like that show IS going to lose its identity. I hope not.

Now to The Moff…. Someone mentioned that he is a great writer, but has no business running the series. I somewhat agree. He did screw up the Daleks and I fear that he’s going to twist Doctor Who into such a convoluted mess that it will alienate the casual viewer and seriously hurt the series.

Yes, I think the problem is people have jumped on the negative and arent thinking that this is likely that they dont want to say anything until everything is signed and sealed rather than make promises that may not then happen. Its a real shame though that being dissapointed has led to some to sniping at the show or individuals associated to it.

Dr Who definitely needs a new production team to take it back to the great programme that RTD made it. There have been far too many changes, and it now looks like a totally different show. There is no doubt that Steven Moffatt wrote some great stories in the RTD era but as exec producer he is responsible for ruining the show. Look at some of the previous finalies… Doomsday, Journey’s End etc. Fantastic, epic stories, great production, excellent performancies. Been trying since start of series 5 to accept it but no…ruined. Sorry.

I know this seems like a dissapointment, but the way I see it. They’re trying to make the 50th Anniversary year much BIGGER. I guess we’ll just have to be patient

Doctor Who really needs a new writter not steven moffet so not him Russell T. Daves is a better writter than steven but doctor who needs a good writter better than steven moffet and also who teched him to do this to doctor who what a joke this came in

So mistakes moffat has made since his Dr Who run. (Just my opinions) He ruined the daleks, he made the series 5 finale a total cop out, he sliced series 6 in 2 parts, made the cybermen look really silly, stopped using the daleks and now he’s not even bothering with dr who much. And this is just 2 series. The only mistakes russel t davies made in his 4 series and specials, were the voyage of the damned and the dalek sec hybrid. Russel T really had enthusiasm. Moffat is great at telling stories but running a show he makes too many mistakes.

This has been an example of how much an ill thought comment can get overanalysed and speculated upon and end up causing a lot of unecessary unrest and upset. I hope Danny Cohen is a bit more sensible about making a joke in the future as he should know that it can lead to misquotes.

Steven wants to announce things when its the right time. What he has to say could well have people being thrilled and excited to see it but instead some are seeing it all as sinister plots and looking for people to blame for things where we dont even know yet if theres an issue. Its kinda like saying “Tell us what you got us for Christmas Steven, tell us, tell us” and if he gives in and says its a shiney new bike having us then all go “Awwwwwwwwww but you’ve spoiled the surprise now”

With luck the hysteria is dying down and lets keep optimistic and wait and see. There will be a reason for it all, and it may be based on practicality and budget but it wont be down to a lack of commitment from anyone on the show.

Don’t say that, The Doctor should return in 2013 for the 50th Anniversary. Can’t wait till 2013 if that us Dr.Who fan will get very upset 🙁

…what?! This is ridiculous! Way too early for another year that only has a few episodes. Does this mean we have to wait until 2014 until another full series?!? …I think I’m not the only one here who would be glad for someone to say to Steven Moffat “You’re fired.”. Very annoying.

Don’t worry it not going be like it was with the Colin Baker or Sylvester McCoy era. Remember in 1984 rest After Peter Davidson left role & Colin Baker did first episode in 1984 final episode season. Then few episode then that 18 month rest then his last few episodes then Sylvester McCoy took till the series ended in 1989. But because it on hold till 2013 you will be sure Matt Smith will return.

I tell you what gets me down. Not the delays to the show. Not the misreporting causing this issue. Its “fans” like Bob and Dwfan 11 that seem to thrive on whining about everything on the show. You think Matt can’t act? What show are you watching because it sure as hell isn’t the one I am.

I AGREE With bob butterworth!! well said! I used to look forward to watching dr who when chris and david were the doctor! now its a disapointment and embarrising! i don’t i some one disagrees with my point1 all im sayin 2005 – 2009 was the best seen on tv! best actors, best script and good entertaiment! its like they can’t be bothered to make good episodes anymore! Yes i no people will disagree, Matt is rubbish! no effort’s put into his performance! he says he went to drama school, well that didn’t work! BRING BACK RUSSEL T DAVIES! AND TO GET MORE VIEWS THERE SPREADING OUT EPISODES SO LIKE EVERY MONTH PEOPLE GET EXCITED AND YAY THERES ANOTHER DOCTOR WHO EPISODE! R.I.P DR.WHO 2005-2009

I wasn’t alive during the old series, but my dad was and he was a big fan. His favorite doctor was Tom Baker, like many other fans. When Matt Smith came on the scene, his favorite changed. The thing is, he’s apparently so much like the doctor of old that he’s stealing a lot of older fans’ hearts, and even I can sort of get a feel for what those earlier seasons were like through Matt Smith. He’s an absolutely amazing doctor because he brings back a lot of what seems to have been lost through the years, and he does it in amazingly awesome ways.

I’m sorry to hear that you are not liking the new series. I for one – absolutely love it – so I can’t really sympathise with any of the points you are trying to make…
