Doctor Who Series 8 Episode 1 to be Shown in Cinemas

Doctor Who Series 8 Episode 1 to be screened globally in cinemas

BBC Worldwide is delighted to announce that the first episode of Doctor Who Series 8 – Peter Capaldi’s debut season in the iconic role – will be screened in cinemas around the world from 23 August 2014.

This year’s screenings follow the success of the global cinema release of Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary episode The Day of the Doctor which was screened in over 1500 cinemas around the world, allowing fans to come together to watch the show like never before.

Doctor Who makes a spectacular return to the big screen in the feature-length premiere episode of Series 8; Deep Breath. Directed by acclaimed Director Ben Wheatley (Sightseers, A Field in England) and written by Lead Writer and Executive Producer Steven Moffat, the beginning of the Twelfth Doctor’s era stars Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, Jenna Coleman as his companion Clara Oswald and sees the return of fan favourites The Paternoster Gang – Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh), Jenny Flint (Catrin Stewart) and Strax (Dan Starkey) – in a pulse-racing adventure through Victorian London.

Steven Moffat comments, “Last November the Doctor didn’t just conquer the world on television, he did it in the cinemas too. And like the show-off he is, he can’t resist another go – one taste of the silver screen is never enough. On August 23rd the new Doctor will begin his new adventures on BBC One and in cinemas all over the world. Movie-land beware – Capaldi is coming to get you!”

Doctor Who: Deep Breath will be screened in participating cinemas around the world from 23 August, 2014. More information will be released by BBC Worldwide and participating cinema chains over the coming weeks. For all of the latest information please visit www.doctorwho.tv

Booboo, I’m watching the commonwealth games on BBC Three and they said something about a ‘Doctor who treat’ later from where they were talking at BBC Scotland. Have you heard anything of this?

hopefully it’s shown before the first TV broadcast.

Unless a full bells and whistles big budet movie like Gaurdians Of The Galaxy (which Karen Gillan is in) out next week I think this is for A episode just a daft idea and the Q & A will probably become available online anyway.

I will be watching in HD at home with a glass of something.

Capaldi’s stare on a TV = automatic destruction of Dalek fleet (as what really happened at the end of DOTD)

Capaldi’s stare on big screen = cause Skaro’s sun to go supernova (again) destroying it’s whole galaxy AND obliterate the cinema

    Those eyes are powerful…

You might be by yourself, then.

With a story like Day of the Doctor I can understand a cinema release but with regular episodes, I think this is too much of a gamble. Why pay to see a normal episode which could turn out to be just average or even below average when we can see it free of charge in our own homes?

With Capaldi’s fierce eyes looking at anyone on a very large screen, god knows some of not all of the audience will wet themselves in terror when he gives them the ‘Malcolm Tucker’ treatment with that stare of his 😀

The showing at our cinema is going to include a Q and A session streamed live from London with Peter Capaldi which is only available to see at the cinema – that’s the extra if you go and see it

Plus the bright lights and loud noises always give me headaches.

Seeing as this is a regular episode, not a special, I think I’ll pass. Wouldn’t have minded gong to one of the screenings with Q&A’s, but I’m happy watching Doctor Who at home. After all, it’s tea time viewing, not popcorn viewing.

I prefer to watch doctor who at home in peace and quiet without any distractions with my surround sound speaker’s on very loud, with a couple of beers.

I love it!!!!!!! I saw Matt’s first episode in Chicago and that was fun. Their screen was no where as big as the theater but was really enjoyable watching the large screen format.

I don’t think it is worth the hassle going to cinemas if you have a big HD TV at home!

Day of the Doctor would of been a 3D headache at the cinemas so I watched it at home. One of a few occasions where I was on the edge of my seat and engaged.

This is in 2D less of an headache and it SHOULD cost less than it did. Remembered the tickets for Day being slightly under £10 or something?

    I… may consider!

i watched the 50th in 3d in the cinemas and it was amazing
this isnt 3d but i really want to watch this on the big screen

It is not in 3d so why pay

  • The Other

    July 25th, 2014 - 1:18pm

As cool as this is, it sort of detracts from the specialness of the 50th, especially since this is actually longer than the 50th (which still annoys me)

As much as I love the cinemas I just prefer to watch doctor who in my living room
