Im confused… is he an old incarnation of the doctor or is he replacing Matt smith? And if he is an old incarnation, does that mean that’s who he was before he called himself “the doctor”

I thick the last moments were fantastic and i can’t wait for the 50th but it is bad that it will be in november i think they should class it as a movie and bring it in july then it will be cool because we have to wait for 6 months…

This can’t be before he became the doctor because Matt’s doctor said he broke the promise he already made. Also, I doubt the doctor would risk crossing timelines with himself on purpose. Tennant isn’t playing the doctor in the 50th anniversary special. He’s playing the Doctor-Donna that was left for Rose in the parallel universe. They’re coming back because the walls of the universe are collapsing again and they end up helping him put it back together.

he says what i did, i did with no choice implying he has done something already and the 11th doctor says i know so i think he is the doctor that ended the time war and he is forgotten because of what he did and isn’t seen as one of the doctors. thats what i think

I love Moffats titles, the bells of St. John was a great name, they don’t mean what we think, they are very clever!

When Clara read the book on the time war, she saw the doctors name. Does that not mean the doctor did not use the name ‘the doctor’ when he fought.

Also, it said the doctor has a secret he will take to his grave, what if that meant his secret, ‘The Hurt Doctor’ followed him to the grave?

A long shot but i haven’t seen anyone else pick up on it.

No offence Mark, but that was absolute nonsense. There were sections that were true enough to the story line but there’s no logical explanation to suggest that he is DEFINITELY a future incarnation; in fact it’s much more hinted toward being a past regeneration. You can stop criticising the people saying he’s a Doctor in between the 8th and 9th because it’s highly suggested; right down to the clothing. Just because you write a novel-length comment with many paragraphs stating contrary ideas, doesn’t make you any more validated in your opinions than anyone else; and in this case you’ve just messed up.

John hurt s doctor could nt be the one who started the time war because the time lords threatened the daleks existence and the daleks stated WAR!

I know it s been like 2 years but does anybody know what silence will fall mean.

Why would the doctor s name be Valeyard he probaly just chose a different name because doctor means healer it s like saying Dick Grayson was called Robin and then changed his name to Nightwing

Since he’s wearin a combination of McGann’s and Eccleston’s outfits, I’m guessing he’s a Doctor from between those two regenerations, and pressed the button in the middle of his regeneration.

In what way was film wasted? John Hurt is one of England’s finest actors and I think we are lucky he is taking part in this story.

No, Smith’s Doctor does not indicate that he is a future Doctor. If he was a future Doctor how the hell would Smith recognise him? If you watch the episode closely you would see that Hurt says:
“I did it for sanity’s sake” referring of course to the Time War. Hurt’s Doctor is The Doctor who ended the Time War. His is not The Valleyard. People have to accept his is The Doctor.

No, because he is a previous incarnation of The Doctor.

Is John hurt going to replace matt smith ?

Because it said introducing Jhon hurt as the Doctor

It’s not clear at all he just regenerated. The scene where he looks at his reflection in the mirror does imply it slightly but it’s not definite. You’ve also got all those photos of him on the Titanic etc

Did I miss something? Why has NO ONE else menioned this????

One minute the doctor was INSIDE the tardis with clara having gained entrance via the secret door, then he was suddennly outside talking to the great intelegence. Is this another wibbly wobbly timy wimy moment like in series 5? There is a huge bit missing from this story.

Its obvious that the wispermen were actually the great intelegence. He moved into a new body at will.
Also the valeyard is a great intelegence inspired doctor from the future or an echo of the doctor/GI. John hurt could be the manifestation of the GI in the doctor, forced into an echo that did horrible things, in the doctors name. He broke the promise. I dont see the time war link for john hurt. The trezladore battle will be the event that happens with john hurt doing the genocide. I wonder were the zygons are going to fit into this. Will the john hurt doctor use them as shape shifters to commit attrocities in the doctors name. Mat smith mentioned PAINTINGS on the johnathan ross show when asked about the 50th aniv. Will the zygons use then as psycic templates to mascarade as the doctor. I wonder if there will be some suprises in the 50th…(cough..cough..paul magan…sylvester macoy..cough cough. )

We keep on hearing the billions the doctor has killed. Would the doctor actually do this? No, its someone doing them through shape shifting zygons to comit acts in the doctors name, in some misguided peace and sanity excuse.

Im sure moffat will throw us a curve ball and catch us all out.

Quite a rant mark – but couldn’t see any conclusive argument – we all know that the Moff is master of the red herring and knows how to push our buttons ( one mention of the name Valeyard and whoosh) and only he will decide

The other theories aren’t that he is an old Macgann or version of Ecclestone – it’s that he could be betweentheatre – a forgotten/hushed up/secret incarnation – since there is that possibility as the series hasn’t dealt with the time war period – he doesn’t specifically say hurt is a future incarnation – that is only covered by the doctor saying the time stream covers his past and future

    Or started the Time war

I think the the version between 8 and 9 is much better because it makes sense plus the revival of the show began with people talking about the time war

  • ROCKSTAR

    May 20th, 2013 - 8:10pm

daryl that does make sense people who think he is a future version are wrong. But maybe he killed himself because he could nt live with the guilt of commiting 2 genocides.

He is the 9th incarnation. Look at his clothes, 8’s waistcoat, 9’s jacket. It’s so obvious!

Rivers soul is in the great library so everything the doctor has done and probably will do should be catalogued in her library, it never suggested the time she was taken from to appear in this episode (only that she’d been dead a long time), and that he believed she should have faded away by now. who’s to say she didn’t appear in this episode from the distant future and why she always knows spoilers 😛
