The Zygons Return for the 50th Anniversary Special

The Zygons Return for the 50th Anniversary Special

From The Official Site…

We’re delighted to confirm that the Zygons are returning to Doctor Who for the show’s 50th anniversary special.

Aside from flashbacks these malevolent shape-shifters have only appeared once before, threatening Earth in the Fourth Doctor adventure, Terror of the Zygons. Despite the fact that their solitary outing was over thirty years ago they remain a popular old enemy and in the 2010 episode, The Pandorica Opens, they were amongst the massed aliens said to be gathering above Stonehenge. Later, in The Power of Three, we learnt that Zygons had one of their ships under the Savoy Hotel in 1890 and apparently replaced half the staff with imposters! But this time they really are back…

We’ve already confirmed that in the anniversary special Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman will be joined by the returning David Tennant and Billie Piper. Screen legend John Hurt is also in the cast and earlier today we revealed that Joanna Page (Gavin & Stacey, The Syndicate) would also be appearing in this eagerly anticipated adventure.

We’ll be brining you more news soon!

They’re a reasonably good recreation and faithful to the original.

The real reason to bring back the Zygons is that they’re shape-changing aliens and therefore can appear as anyone. This is the 50th Anniversary episode after all and we’ll be seeing the Zygons shape change into some familiar faces from the past.

Anyway Chris’s 9th Doctor has no proper link to the present story, whereas the 10th (David) does due to him meeting River for the first time ever in his life (The library and her death).

The bells of St. John refers to the TARDIS having the St. John’s ambulance sticker and the bells refers to the TARDIS phone ringing when Clara called the Doctor.

    Zygones not zygotes

    April 6th, 2013 - 3:30pm

It would be good if the zygotes disguise themselves as Amy and Rory or Clara to trap the Doctor

The bells of Saint John was relating to the TARDIS having the St. John’s ambulance sticker. And the bells symbolised the ringing of the TARDIS phone when Clara called it. I also agree with the Statue of Liberty comment as when Amy and Rory were on the roof top you could see cars below. How didn’t they see it!! I also agree the new ice warriors look amazing.

“stuffed into another story with loads of other monsters, (as seems to be the case)”

What over monsters a are supposed to be in it then.

I do like it….my only issues is why do they have to reveal this nearly seven months before it airs. Also it looks a little foamy. The original looked organic. It should have had its own story too, not just stuffed into another story with loads of other monsters, (as seems to be the case)
My problem with moffats stories is that he is trivialising all the monsters. Roman humanised rory Autons, teletubby daleks, comedy nurse sontarons, human like lesbian silurians…now the zygons were brought in as a joke, (the hotel reference) There is little suspense anymore. I mean even his best creation the weeping angels got ridiculous. (no one saw the angel statue of liberty stomping through the city that never sleeps, (new york!!)

He is starting to ruin doctor who. What on earth was the bells of saint john? What did they have to do with the story?

I LOVE doctor who, and will continue to watch it no matter what but I feel that there needs to be a rethink on the use of the monsters. And cut back on the hype. If your going to use classic daleks in a story…USE THEM. Don`t just have them relegated to a blink an you will miss them role.

Dont mess up the zygons. Ice warriors look awesome though. A great update.

Something as big as the 52th anniversary will be on Netflix, so you will probably be able to watch it on there or on BBC I player

We’d like to find out how we can see the 50th anniversary special. We live in North Central Florida, have no satellite or cable tv but use the internet & Roku with Netflix and Hulu as adjuncts, and just watch everything on our wide-screen tv monitor. Presently we watch Dr. Who through Netflix; they have 86 of the 2005-2010 episodes and 76 of the 1963-? episodes. We’d still like to be involved in watching the 50th anniversary special, if you can help us.
    Thanks & be well.

BooBoo I don’t know if you’re tied up with loads of stuff or not, but some of the pages need updated, like the Doctor Who feature, the River Song Timeline, and some other pages, but I would love to see the River Song timeline updated with the First/last night episodes and The Angels Take Manhatten…

It was confirmed by the BBC that the story wasn’t true. Eccelston turned down the offer long before the script was finished. He never pulled out of it at all as he didn’t agree to d oit, althoguh he did speak to Steven Moffat at a few secret meetings as another Doctor who is interested in returning did interestingly enough.

Well Chris wouldn’t appear anyway if the BBC did ask him back. His said time and time again he don’t won’t to come back to Doctor Who.

Hi it said in the paper this morning (and it was confirmed by the BBC) that the 9th was in the script but decided not to do it at the last moment meaning it had to be re-written leaving out the 9th doctor!

I’d like to see bronze and Paradigm like in ‘Asylum’, only with the Paradigm Daleks in proper action.
