    i think it was BRILLIANT

the titles were ok i liked the part with the clocks but the part right at the start reminds me of disney – dunno why ?

the theme music was good !

jenny vastra & strax really need their own spin off show ! strax would be hilarious !

capaldi ! brilliant hes made it into my top 10 doctors already !

    overall rating – 9.5/10

Loved Capaldi, liked the episode too, beginning to give Clara a better character too (particularly now the whole boyfriend thing’s gone) and a good addition to the Vastra/Strax/Jenny story.
Also loved the tone and themes it set for the series.
Please everyone remember that this episode was more about the new doctor than the monsters (humanised clockwork droids from series two, no less).

I found it a bit iffy until the restraint scene, then I started to like it more, excluding certain bits. 8.5/10

Sorry, but don’t like the opening titles (end credit ones better) and the new version of the theme was dreadful; lacked the shuddery atmosphere of the ones before it.

    it was ok
story was a bit weak, and it was way too long for that episode
capaldi was good, but his intro was like matts, confused and erratic, and matts ep was better.
some good moments for clara, but the storyline was a bit of a flop.
if they cut out some bits, it would’ve been really action packed.

    As Pertwee says…

Good, well written Sci-fi has the ability to , inform , educate & entertain , three cornerstones of the BBC’s original philosophy!
Sadly it achieved none of those things …
    3/10 , must do better
However Peter looks very promising & sure can act!

Slow start but soon got into it’s stride. Peter Capaldi seems very versatile and quite personable. I think he will make an interesting Dr. Good to see Matt Smith handing the reins over to Peter. Looking forward to seeing how Peter develops the character and can’t wait to see the Daleks and Cybermen.

Enjoyed it still twisting and turning to get to end. Thank goodness it is just dark as the old doctors. In the last scene was it filmed at Dyffryn Gardens near Cardiff? Hope it carries on for the rest of the series

There have been victorian period dr whos for a long time…
Peter Capaldi brings, at the end anyway; gravitas.
He is quite like, deliberately, Jon Pertwee although he was stealing from Tom Baker as well (scaff and enthusiasum).
Lots of referendum references. A symptom of the times: the English want to keep UK; but do the Scottish? Nice though… only the most perceptive of international observers will get this.
Derleks next; well it has to be, doesn’t it?

What is so wrong about an ‘older’ doctor??? The whole episode was an apology for the doctor being old. Countless references to his grey hair and wrinkles. Capaldi has lived. He has experienced life. All the better to reflect the wisdom of an immortal being. Good luck PC. You’ll need to overcome this cult of youth that pervades TV audiences.

As for the People who complained about Peter Capaldi being too old for the role, YOU WERE PROVED WRONG!!! LOLOLOLOLOL – Peter Capaldi was excellant and funny! It was a fantastic episode but I felt sorry for the Dinosaur 🙁 also Matt Smith’s Cameo was an amazing, unexpected surprise! I would like to say bravo to Moffat and rate this episode a whopping 100 and so on out of 10! Also, I cannot wait to go into the Dalek next week! 😀

Very disappointing please do not do Victorian London theme its is so boring for the first 40 minute’s and then the last 10 minutes were just wonderful. Do not like new rework of theme tune, what’s wrong with original tune or last series version it is so iconic for the 50th year and we all grew up with it and passed the love of it on to our children.

It is very early days remember… an impressively different fan-inspired title sequence (aside from barely tweaked logo); not so pleased by the theme arrangement or much of the first 40 minutes (basic instability slapstick as per usual) however after that, eerie and promising signs that Peter Capaldi will be an excellent, charismatic, unpredictable and versatile Dr. Who. Well worth giving him all our support as he develops the role. 🙂

Since 1963, many DW episodes have been set in the past.

Not sure I’ve ever seen a period drama with, dinosaurs, robots, talking lizards and time machines… were you mistakenly watching Downton Abbey on DVD?

Really enjoyed it. Capaldi superb. Very well written.

Was dreading this story as, after the brilliant “Nightmare in Silver”, I have disliked the three “…of the Doctor” stories. It was a rubbish 50th anniversary (except for Adventures in Time and Space).

This has restored my faith; I am over the moon. Brilliant Doctor, great script, superb direction.

Doctor Who is back on track.

Eh. Yeah, it wasn’t bad as far as opening episodes go, but some openers were better.

Capaldi was quite good, but I’m not completely sold yet (hey, it’s only episode 1!). It had it’s moments which were funny (Strax as usual is a laugh), but Vastra being all Batman and Serious was kinda over-the-top. The villains weren’t great, but hey, first episode monsters normally aren’t great, but I found them functional if nothing else.

Overall: I’ve seen better series openers, but it was consistent throughout, but I feel with some changes it could have been a great one, not just average. 6/10
