Dalek The Supreme
September 28th, 2014 - 11:03pmThis episode is kind of… not very good. Once again, the writers have forgotten that Peter Capaldi is playing the Twelfth Doctor, not the Eleventh, the monster does very little and doesn’t look threatening at all, with it’s chubby belly, stubby arms, and big eyes. It looks adorable. Also, what was the point of that one girl the Doctor thought was named “Disruptive Influence”? Is she going to be travelling on the TARDIS? If so, why doesn’t she get any development in her debut episode? And the Doctor thinks humans are boring now??? Just about every other incarnation of the Doctor (except the First) has found humans to be the most interesting creatures in the universe. That feels incredibly out of character.
However, Clara’s development here was good. She’s finally facing the consequences of lying to both the Doctor and Danny. Danny Pink was very good here, and has regained SOME of my interest after losing it all in Listen. My favorite scene of the episode is when he talks to Clara about what kind of man the Doctor is. Even still, his confrontation with the Doctor in the TARDIS was way over the top. I did like how he thought Clara’s boyfriend was the guy who looked like the Eleventh Doctor, though. We’ve finally returned to the central story arc after a three episode break, which is good. I feel like Moffat’s going to have to treat carefully here, though, since using the afterlife could potentially alienate fans who are religious if he doesn’t tread carefully. It is also severely disappointing to see that the Doctor’s character arc, him trying to figure out if he’s a good man or not, hasn’t been brought up for four episodes. This episode earns 4/10 from me.

September 28th, 2014 - 10:46pmPeter Capaldi – Yes
Clara Oswald – Yes
Danny Pink – Yes
Monster – Hmm…
Steven Moffat – NO!!!
Plus, why does the Doctor start randomly taking disruptive students in the TARDIS??? I just think that child actors on Doctor Who are terrible.
Dalek The Supreme
September 28th, 2014 - 11:04pmConsidering Doctor Who is a family show, I don’t particularly mind children on the TARDIS, as, if done properly, it can be used to connect with young viewers.
Doctor Stu
September 28th, 2014 - 9:10pmJust watched the full episode and I loved it the comedy wasn’t really childish and it made everyone laugh, miss pickwell showed her face again, the monster was great I thought however I think the invisible watch was just a useful plot device as that watch could have been very useful in just about every doctor who episode ever tbh

September 28th, 2014 - 8:53pmPersonally I really enjoyed this episode, I still find it difficult as to why so many dislike Clara & even Peter Capaldi’s portrayal of The Doctor, lets not forget the character is an alien and therefore will behave like one & about time to. But one final comment on The Caretaker, where was Ian Chesterton’s even cameo appearance, would have loved him just to walk into the caretakers room & seeing the Police Box
Last Goth Standing
September 28th, 2014 - 8:05pmI enjoyed lad night’s episode, especially the three-way character interaction; it has never been more obvious that The Doctor dislikes soldiers…. But, for the love of Pan and the everlasting darkness, do not make Doctor Who tabloid, do not make Timelords tiresome… Let there be fire and fury, let there be terror, let there be dark humour, but not Doctor Hollyoaks!!!
You Know WHO
September 28th, 2014 - 7:58pmI think that the new doctor is very good.
However, I am sick of viewing episodes that are mostly showing the companion; Doctor Who is not a soap. The ninth and tenth doctor era was a good balance of the doctor and companion but since the eleventh doctor, there has been far too many scenes of the companions love life and personal life ect. This programme needs to get back to its original format, with the doctor and his companion traveling through time and space, rather than the doctor picking up his companion when they want to go on another trip.
Dalek The Supreme
September 28th, 2014 - 10:47pmIn my opinion, the relationships between the Tenth Doctor and his companions felt more like a soap. To be honest, there was more focus on story arcs and who the Doctor is, as well his influence on the universe in the Eleventh Doctor’s era.

September 28th, 2014 - 7:51pmWhy so much dislike to Clara. Don’t you like beautiful girls? Anybody has any idea why she is the “impossible girl”. It’s time that story is played out
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
September 28th, 2014 - 8:49pmI think it was a problem as she was just a plot device, which affected her quite a lot, as we hardly knew her, and she was willing to die for practically a stranger
Ian
September 28th, 2014 - 7:36pmLets hope the next episode sees a return to DOCTOR Who and leave Clara Who behind for a little while.
Less soap opera and more Sci-Fi, and ease up on the suffocation of Peters Doctor, how can he develop and establish himself when his companion has the show to herself.
Anonymous
September 28th, 2014 - 7:48pmAgree completely, Doctor Who is turning into a soap. Far too many scenes are shown for Clara’s everyday life.
christa
September 30th, 2014 - 10:03amDitto,ditto & ditto again waaaaay too much clara.
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
September 28th, 2014 - 7:33pmI rewatched it, and it was still terrible. No point having the Skovox, might as well just have Clara Danny and the Doctor.
This story cliche is repetetive, and I wish Clara didn’t have a boyfriend, as it’s made this go on, and the Doctor meeting the boyfriend doesn’t really matter, plus it’s the same reaction of the doctor disliking Mickey.
This type of ep is done way too soon for the new Doctor, and a copy of the dr widow and wardrobe
Clara is screaming to me that SM is trying to make her like Rose.
I don’t know if I’m liking this TARDIS team, as Clara is just like a normal girl, with no extra feistiness, or emotion, or gobbiness.
She did in Deep Breath, but now it’s a bit like she is the key, and she should be focused on, but they are focusing on her in the wrong way, in the way of her personal life, and it should be more trying to make the doctor more emotional
the new doctor hasn’t been given many character developing scripts, as smith did (the beast below,) and the story arc of ‘good man’ fizzled out after one episode, and I thought that would continue through the series
This could be Moffatts worst series I fear because of this
Ian
September 28th, 2014 - 7:38pmBrilliant observations!!
The Caretaker would have suited Matt Smith more. All the hall marks of a writer who didn’t know who the hell he was supposed to be writing about.

September 28th, 2014 - 8:23pmno the caretaker would not have suited smith as I cant see a person as young as smith being a school caretaker
and although it was a light story the doctor character was still dark

September 28th, 2014 - 8:24pmand I think clara should get a boy friend other wise she would have no proper character devoelpment
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
September 28th, 2014 - 8:46pmI just think her having a boyfriend is a re run of Mickey N Rose, whom the Doctor doesn’t approve of
Maybe the episode wouldn’t have worked with Smith, but I do think for a new doctor who doesn’t know whether he is a good man, this was just totally incorrect and focusing too much on Clara, who hasn’t been round for long

TS
October 2nd, 2014 - 9:15pmYes I did the same, wondering if I was being over -critical or got out of bed the wrong side – I re-watched it. But I still felt the same, and that somersault the second time around was actually painful to watch.
I tend to agree with your opinions here, and I think some people seem to forget that we are just voicing our opinions, and they shouldn’t take it too personally.
Being of the older generation (and saw the first doctor who go out on tv in 1963) – I would have expected to hate matt smith and like peter capaldi (fellow wrinkly) but I did like matt a lot, and peter capaldi does nothing for me at all.
So – I am going to do as suggested on here by some, and not watch it anymore, and I wont be watching itv either as I rarely watch tv these days, instead I will dig out my vast collection of old dr who/space1999/blakes 7/sapphire and steel etc – and sit down to some entertainment I know I like, I never tire of them no matter how many times I watch them, and I think that’s the ‘magic’ ingredient missing these days.

September 28th, 2014 - 6:44pmThe Catetaker
Another episode which started off well and then deteriorated into a poor soap opera.
The show seems to concentrate too much on Clara’s love life and not enough on decent storytelling.
The thing I hated most though was Danny’s ‘amazing’ somersault at the climax of the story, what was that? Is Mr Pink not only an ex-soldier but a former member of cirque du soleil as well? ridiculous!
Dalek Supreme
September 28th, 2014 - 5:50pm1-Time Heist (All round quite good, of somewhat too complicated for itself. Also some of the WORST corridor scenes ever).
2-Into the Dalek (Slightly rushed, with not enough world building going on, but cool and generally not too bad).
3-The Caretaker (Quite fun, but still fails to make Danny Pink even remotely interesting. Nice to see a ‘down to earth’, but could have more of the Skovox Blitzer even though it looked a bit cheap).
4-Listen (A horrific mess of about 5 episodes stuck together, with the theme of series 5 stuck on for no logical reason. Excellent first half, but falls apart at the end).
5-Robot of Sherwood (Quite funny, but overall doesn’t have much of an impact and isn’t great story wise or anything).
6-Deep Breath (Oh god this episode is a mess. It’s supposed to focus on the Doctor, but it’s more interested in the paternoster gang for some reason, even though they’ve been done at least 3 times now. Capaldi’s small amount of screen time was quite good, but ultimately a disappointment for an opener. Personally, every other new Doctor opener has done better).

September 28th, 2014 - 6:26pmInteresting opinions…some of your summaries take a unique view. A brave summary of Listen…an episode which has been hailed by newspaper critics, forum bloggers and regular fans as one of the best ever episodes. Mind you, I have no problem reading opinions of others, (even if they differ from mine),when they are sensible and constructive like yours. Better than the usual “Awful! Moffat please go” nonsense that I see a lot 🙂

September 29th, 2014 - 1:12pmVery true, Doctor Who One. Too many people forget or blatantly ignore that “New Series” and “Classic Series” refer to different eras of ONE show.

September 28th, 2014 - 1:52pmDid anyone notice that when Clara was telling the kids not to play ball on the chess set, the Doctor came out of the Caretakers Shed, saw Clara telling them off and whistled a part of the song “Another Brick in the Wall”, (teacher leave those kids alone).
I thought that was really clever by either the writer or Peter, not many people would have picked that up.
Inferno
September 28th, 2014 - 1:43pmI think Capaldi is great, but the stories just aren’t ‘Who’ to me. The more I see of modern Who (and this started about during Tennant’s tenure) the more I watch Classic Who on DVD – my small collection is steadily growing! I miss four- six- and even ten-episode stories with their cliffhangers, maybe Moffatt should look at his old DVD collection and see what turned him onto Who in the first place…
Anonymous
September 28th, 2014 - 7:13pmOne of the reasons the show was axed is because the show didnt move with the times. ..and it was a little bit rubbish (mainly production but also scripts..note 5th Doctor era – bar 1 or 2 stories, it was awful). The show has moved on to suit a modern audience and is more successful than its ever been. But it’s not to everyone’s liking…thats when DVDs of older shows come in handy.
Ian
September 28th, 2014 - 7:31pmThe show was cut because of budget cuts and pitting it directly against the most watched show on air at the time. Those things combined prompted the end of the show.
the astroanut of death
September 28th, 2014 - 8:29pmthe reason the show was axed was due to a list of thing
1. the writing – the writing had start to go down hill the 80s the stories were not as good and the b b c new that
2.the ratings – the ratings got realy low towards the end of the show this was due to the stories and doctor had been put on so it would clash with corrie
3. the budget – the writers of doctor who even said stories were getting worst due to budget cuts so scenes had to be cut and reduced
but the main thing is the ratings all shows rely on ratings
Anonymous
September 29th, 2014 - 10:46amYes…I think the time has passed where we look at the BBC as the evil party who axed the show for no real reason. Although it hurts to say it, the real reason the show was axed is that is just wasn’t really very good anymore. That said, the ironic thing is that by the time the BBC did actually get around to axing it, the quality of stories had really started to improve…but too was too little, too late.
Looking back, the BBC did us all a favour…although the show was off air far longer than it should have been, had it not been “rested”, we would not have the show we have today. As a viewer from 1978 onwards (and having watched every available episode of the show on DVD), the last 3 years or so have been, in my opinion, the best in the show’s history. The great thing is…for those who don’t like it as it is today….there are DVDs of the older stuff, whether it be the 60s, 70s, 80’s, 90s or even the 9th and 10 Doctor eras….but I’m not looking back…I’m just enjoying the ride just like I did when I was a kid despite my uncles telling me the show wasn’t as good as it used to be…you see, even in the 70s you had fans that weren’t able to accept change 🙂

September 28th, 2014 - 1:31pmwas this a lost script for an episode of sarah jane adventures? Didnt feel like dr who. clara instead of sarah. not as bad as listen….(that was for me the worst episode EVER of dr who! Not kidding).
Capaldi has no warmth about him. Not coming accross as likable in any way. Is the doctor going senile? The PE teacher joke got old VERY quickly. Concidering this is supposed to be a guy who has the collective memory of 12 lifetimes….does ne REALLY have no idea about human interaction. Monster….LAME. Pointless. Why was it there? How did no one see a mechanical robot walking down the street? No police turning up at the school after all the explosions? What about the other teachers and parents? Why didnt they look to see what all the explosions were about? Plot holes. Hate em. Love dr who. Last weeks was good….into the dalek was great….this weeks….well…whats on next week. Looks better.
Watch ARK IN SPACE or ROBOTS OF DEATH. Thats dr who. Not this.
TS
September 28th, 2014 - 1:48pmI have to agree with you, and you said things more eloquently than I did.
Yes the jokes are becoming very lame and over used. Capaldi for me isn’t ‘the doctor’ and I also think its the worst ever (second worst is listen).
The old doctor who was REAL entertainment, I have gone off clara too, probably too much focus on her.
And yes – the plot holes are getting too numerous to keep track of now.
I am off to watch some early drwho!
the astronaut of death
September 28th, 2014 - 2:40pmhow as listen bad that was brilliant episode
and it is not 100% chance that someone would have seen the robot
TS
September 28th, 2014 - 1:24pmWhat did we learn from this episode of the ‘once great but rapidly going down the drain’ doctor who series?
Well, first that peter capaldi is not right as the doctor, he just doesnt sit right and that accent is way over the top – another scottish time lord from gallifrey, but this time with an even stronger accent? hmmmm.
I have only just recovered from a doctor with a northern england accent, luckily though ‘rose tyler’ saved the day by upstaging him at every turn and helping to distract us from that.
But secondly though and perhaps most importantly, that its ok for a guy (mr pink) to act like total ass, be ignorant, arrogant, selfish, childish, and totally unreasonable, because the script writers will turn you into a super hero who manages to perform an acrobatic feat worthy of a top olympian athlete and then save the world, and get the pretty girl.
Clearly this ‘mr pink’ is a total creep, with a chip on his shoulder large enough to start his own take-away business and stock it for a year. Why they try to make him look like an all round good guy is beyond me, and why is ‘clara’ even remotely interested in him?
That for me, is the worst episode in the history of the program, and i have watched it from a child in 1963 (and yes that even incudes the Sylvester McCoy ones)
OK the special effects were quite good, but so they should be these days with the expert technicians and the vast resources of the BBC!
The ‘final nail in the coffin’ for me is the dreadful new opening credits and the way they have destroyed the once brilliant theme tune, after so many ‘improvements’ they finally got it as near perfect as is likely to be – then they trash it – why oh why did they do that?
I guess i could live with that if it was even one tenth as good as the old series were, sadly those days are long gone. What i really need is a time machine to go back to those days …. and STAY THERE.

September 28th, 2014 - 2:36pmhow is danny a creep

September 29th, 2014 - 4:42pmTS…don’t write so confidently when you say things like “once great but rapidly going down the drain”.
You write it as if you are leading a popular view point. The vast majority of fans continue love the show so please don’t write on behalf of others. This is your opinion and the opinion of a largely unpopular minority…a vocal and crass minority. Stick to the forums and vent off with the others.

September 28th, 2014 - 1:20pmPretty good ep!
Enjoyed the character development, and the monster was cool
However, we needed more monster screen time!
I don’t mind Clara leading so much anymore, since, although it’s wrong, Moffat has admitted she’s the lead this series, so I expect it
On another note, great flip from Danny! – WOW!

The Surgeon
September 28th, 2014 - 12:46pmMy God, I hate Clara!
I’m finding it difficult to like Capaldi because he gets less screen time than Clara! I loved Time Heist because Clara wasn’t a major part of the episode. I despised Listen and Robot of Sherwood for the exact opposite reason. She was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too central a character.
The purpose of the companion is to make the Doctor look clever and ask him the questions the audience would. Moffat doesn’t get that. He uses Clara as the clever one, the Doctor as the sidekick and Danny/Rory as the companion.
Gareth came unstuck at the same point he did in The Lodger and Closing Time. The monster was a side-effect of love. Craig + Sophie, Craig + Stormageddon, Clara + Danny. In The Lodger the Autopilot Avatar was pathetic, in Closing Time the Cybermen were insulted (although I loved the Cybermats) and in this… What was its name again?

September 28th, 2014 - 12:12pmTerrible episode, again. Why put so much effort into creating a new alien then only have it on screen for 5 minutes ? I wish they would stop the Clara-Danny relationship nonsense, if I wanted to watch that sort of thing I’d tune in to Eastenders. Oh and no more kids in the Tardis please, I had enough of that in Nightmare in Silver.
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
September 28th, 2014 - 6:27pmYou are right, Clara’s too new a companion to be worried about managing lives. It worked for the Ponds, as it was the run up to their exit

September 28th, 2014 - 11:27amI enjoyed the main plots of Listen and Time Heist, and Peter Capaldi, but not the romantic comedy stuff of Oswald/Pink which has been as bad as “The Ponds”, coupled with the awful “comedic” banter that has littered the series so far, it is just not my cup of tea – in any genre, so I really wasn’t looking forward to this episode. However, it was o’k, the scenes with Pink and the Doctor were fairly mature and fleshed out the characters some more, and moves them forward. I hope, now, the series can now move past all that and for more weight, gravity and authority to be allowed to come through in the next episodes and some drama to boot. Looking forward to next weeks show !!

September 28th, 2014 - 10:46amActually, I quite enjoyed this. Quite entertaining in parts, though, (and ive said this so often Ive become boring), it really does need to start making the Doctor the focus of attention.
Last night felt very rushed and that was largely due to the amount of time given over to Clara and Danny. Doctor Who has become a soap opera.
The episode needed more time spent on the threat of the Skovox Blitzer (sounds like something from Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy) and the Doctor overcoming it.
Peter Capaldi has so much potential its a shame he’s not being allowed to realise it.
When the episode did allow the Doctor to shine it picked up and showed great promise.
As so many others have done heres my list of favourites so far :
1. Time Heist
2. The Caretaker
3. Into The Dalek
4. Deep Breath / Listen
6. Crapbot of Sherwood
Ian
September 28th, 2014 - 8:55amTerrible.
Another Clara led episode. The Doctor is constantly smothered by Clara and just once wish it was the other way around….. figuratively speaking. I think.
Just once it would be nice for the Doctor to be the main point of attention in his own programme.
My god Clara is irritating!
On another note, anyone else feel like the Doctor was out of character? It was almost like Peter Capaldi in a Matt Smith episode. It just wasn’t right.
DOCTOR WHO ONE

September 28th, 2014 - 8:35amNow that was more like it. Just entertaining. No complex subplots that require a degree in algebra and psychology to follow it.
Peter Calpaldi’s more aggressive and less friendly take on the Doctor was perfectly suited to this episode.
A little too much of Clara’s love life, but I think this is showing us the way her path of life will go in due course.
Perhaps the ‘disruptive influence’ kid, Courtney Woods, will return as an adult in the near future (similar to Amy Pond)
Ian
September 28th, 2014 - 8:58amThe Clara plotline is better suited to Emmerdale or Coronation Street.
Get it out of Doctor Who, it’s dragging an otherwise brilliant season down very quickly.
DOCTOR WHO ONE
September 28th, 2014 - 8:09amIs it just me, or has the Police Box exterior of the Tardis gone thinner ?.
Normally, since 2005 when Doctor Who returned, the Tardis looks wider and tougher looking, but in last nights episode, it looked as it she’d gone thinner in appearance on the outside.

September 28th, 2014 - 3:31amDid anyone notice the similarities between this episode where they were explaining the doctor and the tardis to Danny and the first very first Dr Who episode “An Unearthly Child”? The Dr is the father (unearthly child the Dr was a grandfather) and the whole teacher discovering the tardis? If it was intentional, it was awesome!
