What Did You Think of The Bells of Saint John?
The Doctorβs search for Clara Oswald brings him to modern day London, where wifi is everywhere. Humanity lives in a wifi soup.
But something dangerous is lurking in the signals, picking off minds and imprisoning them.
As Clara becomes the target of this insidious menace, the Doctor races to save her and the world from an ancient enemy.
Now that the 1st episode of series 7b has aired in the UK what did you think?, was it the best episode ever or just average.

March 31st, 2013 - 5:30pmNice to have a sassy, feisty, quick witted companion for a change. Very silly, banal dialouge with the typical innuedo thrown in, which is just jarring considering the rest of the banter is so childish. A non event as far as storytelling goes. Action set peices shoe-horned in for the sake of it. The newspapers were so harsh on McCoy back in the day but now this is considered BAFTA worthy stuff? I think this is because it was an old series by 1987 and now it is seen as cool.

RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
March 31st, 2013 - 4:46pmdidn;t like it guys. the term spoonheads was only used once. the villains were meek and bad. i didn;t like the use of simeon. the end with kizlet was confusing. there wasn’t much action don’t think it was great for clara. she should’ve just gone with him at the end… why not? although i didn;t like it, it had good stucture and ties.
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
March 31st, 2013 - 4:47pmthe old ones are the best. i am going off doctor who definitely. and plus, the spoonhead things were pointless and in my opinion too scary for that time slot.
MasterKasterborous
March 31st, 2013 - 11:59pmWhy didn’t she just randomly go off with a man to explore time and space without a moment’s thought? People might want to sort some things out say some goodbyes and the like. It makes the character seem more real.
No action? He rode a motorbike through London and up the Shard!
Plus Simeon wasn’t in it. His face was used by the Great Intelligence after The Snowmen but we are yet to find out any more it yet. Well we’ve been waiting 45 years and we still don’t really have a clue what it is…
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
April 1st, 2013 - 12:36pmthe motorbike was the only action there was! Plus Pond ran away on her wedding night, so it has happened before. But suppose she is a nanny so I’ll respect your point.
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
March 31st, 2013 - 4:36pmnot good guys. the story was a copy of the idiots lantern. not much action. the term ‘spoonheads’ was only used once, the villains were terrible and meek, the ending was bad and confusing. why can’t clara just go with him? they are promising too much. i don’t think it was the best start for clara mark 3 also. i am going off who. although the ep was bad, it had good links and structure.

March 31st, 2013 - 2:52pmI think in the finale it will turn out that the great intelligence never gave the proper Clara back and they are just using her to find out more about the doctor

Rooners
March 31st, 2013 - 11:31amNot a bad episode – I enjoyed the dialogue between Clara and the Doctor and the in jokes – the “Doctor Who?” joke was taken even further and I thought the TARDIS at Earls Court reference was fun…both were pretty much breaking the 4th wall. But the plot was nothing special…in fact it was almost a cross between The Idiots Lantern and Partners in Crime. 7/10.
By the way, did any one else notice Jenna Louise Coleman’s northern accent come through when she said the word “jump” in the final scene? π

March 31st, 2013 - 11:06amOf clara just is a babysitter and doesn’t like at the house, why is her book there?
The TARDIS
March 31st, 2013 - 12:05pmShe’s a governess, and governesses live at the house of the family she works with usually.

March 31st, 2013 - 10:57amI felt that the christmas special was over-complicated but this episode was brilliant, tying up all loose ends. π

March 31st, 2013 - 9:43amI really enjoyed this episode It was dark, dramatic, with a joke every now and then, the doctor was dark and mysteryous like he should be and the great inteligents returned but sadley no yetis. I give this episode 8/10 it is a fun episode to wawtch and i highly recamend it.
P.S I hope the daleks return

March 31st, 2013 - 9:32amgreat episode
a few things i noticed are that in her 101 places to see the age of 23 was missing.
amelia williams wrote the book that the boy was reading
near the start when he was choosing what to wear he threw away the old tweed coat!
Dr Who fan man
March 31st, 2013 - 8:40amI really enjoyed the episode. I agree the resolution was a bit quick, but it had the bike up the shard for the kids, a nice spooky concept, and an awesome new Tardis. And Matt Smith makes me smile. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Sigh…
March 31st, 2013 - 5:31amMatt Smith was brilliant as always but Jenna-Louise Coleman makes me wonder if I can stomach any future episodes if she will be in them. I know that it is always hard to get into a new traveling companion but her acting is akin to fingernails on a chalkboard. Thus the dilemma, as I know she has a contract to continue to try and look like an actor for the rest of this season. To watch or not to watch. Sigh….
Justininferno
March 31st, 2013 - 9:12amHardly fair. JLC is a very capable and strong actor and has lifted the show just by bieng involved with it. Plus her capabilities have allowed for an instantly likeable character. Best companion since Donna.

March 31st, 2013 - 2:47amFaces in the tv? A little to much like the Wire in “The Idiots Lantern” series 2!
Anonymous
March 31st, 2013 - 11:08amIt seemed a bit like a much better remake and improvement but very different at the same time!
The Wire
March 31st, 2013 - 11:13amThere is a reason for that. The Great Intelligence said they were old enemies. I think The Wire is back.
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND

March 31st, 2013 - 5:48pmWasn’t the wire in a Mark Gatiss episode? he and Steven work closely together, so maybe the great intelligence and the wire haved teamed up or something along those lines.
Dalek The Supreme
March 31st, 2013 - 2:22amIt was good, the ending was slightly rushed though, otherwise, I think it was a great episode with interesting story arcs being set up. And Matt Smith as the Doctor… do I even need to explain how brilliant he is? I give it 8/10.
The Moffat Paradox
March 31st, 2013 - 2:02amMoffat paradox indeed.
Better than I thought it would be.

March 30th, 2013 - 10:34pmi do not know what to say about this episode it was not as i expected i expected it to be action packed although it was. to be honest i just think that this episode was not up to much and i hope that all the new episodes are not like this and i would of loved to see more of the villains ( the great inteligence and spoon heads)

March 30th, 2013 - 9:50pmOooo u know when Clara got the number and she said the women said this was the best help line In the universe. I bet that was river or Amy
Coming Full Circle
March 30th, 2013 - 9:55pmYeah. Did anyone see who the author of that book that she was reading / recommended to that boy in the house, was by? Could it have possibly been by Amy? River? Or someone from the doctor’s past?

March 31st, 2013 - 2:05amDid anyone else notice that in Clara’s book she crossed out every age from 9 to 24, but missed out 23. Also, she missed the number 3 from the wi-fi password making it rycbar124. Coincidence?
Still Not Ginger!!
March 31st, 2013 - 11:54amsorry 66 your idea was great, but after she types it she says the doctor put her off so she typped it worng
MasterKasterborous
April 1st, 2013 - 12:02amYh she probably just said that though…
Also note that the anniversary is on the 23rd.
Coming Full Circle
March 30th, 2013 - 9:50pmAnyone notice how when we first met Clara, the doctor was fascinated by how she could hack the Dalek network so easily? I know that it was because she was a Dalek but surely this is a link to how today we she first came back from the cloud data/Greater Intelligence, she learnt how to hack computers so easily?
Coincidence or is the story going to come full circle so that Clara’s end is back to when the Doctor first met her, and her death???
Anonymous
March 30th, 2013 - 11:25pmYeah, but surely oswin would recognise the docotr when they met?!
Mortimer
March 31st, 2013 - 9:50amNot necessarily, in her mind she had barricaded herself against invading darleks. who knows what else she had repressed.
Anonymous
March 31st, 2013 - 11:11amMaybe the daleks removed all her memories and replaced them with a new scenario or story, which Is that she crashed, personally I don’t want this to happen as I want a companion going and living a normal life, with a chance of return. Since the shows revival only one companion has lives a normal life, which is Martha:
Rose-different universe
Donna-memory wiped
Amy and Rory-weeping angel
Coming Full Circle
April 6th, 2013 - 4:37pmAmy and Rory could be in the same alternate universe as Rose and the mortal clone Doctor. Obviously their separated by the fact their in different times but could have communicated with each other or time traveled to each other (Theory behind this is that in Rose and clone Doctor’s universe time travel wrist watches are available, like Captain Jack’s and also if anyone noticed Clara’s from the Dalek episode?)

April 4th, 2013 - 7:33pmI have said this in several other threads but wasn’t Sydney Newman the show’s creator a Canadian ie. page one….? Just a thought.
Don’t diss the sonic!!!
March 30th, 2013 - 9:15pmI was a bit unsure of the episode at first but about half way through i started to love it and loved the wee clever Moffat stuff. The only thing that i really didn’t like about the episode is that the Great Intelligence were in it; I like the GI but i didn’t want them to feature in another episode. Though Moffat was successful at making the spoonheads/wi-fi scary; Miss Kizet was awesome. If i had to rate it, i would give it 7.5/10.
Mortimer
March 31st, 2013 - 9:54amHalf way through I deducted it was the GI that was behind it and actually I think it is a good move on Moffat to add a main antagonist. I only hope that he’ll do it a little more subtle than with the cracks, let a few episodes without the GI. If he can pull it off like with the tenth and martha jones where you had a vaguer hints and nudges towards the Master than we could see some very interesting episodes.
Matt smithy
March 30th, 2013 - 9:06pmThought it was great! obviously the story wasn’t developed much and was quite basic, but arn’t all episodes that introduce new companions? remember they had 45 minutes to introduce the doctor to clara, AND to tell a story as some viewers may just be tuning in to see what the show is like, and don’t want too see the doctor find out who clara is. think about it, “rose” just introduced rose with a side note of an auton invasion (solved with a vile of water with blue food coloring), smith and jones was introducing mather/doctor (with a side note of the hospital being taken too the moon, searched, then put back) ect.. for an intro episode, I thought the story was well done asnd deeper than other openers! series 6 and 7A don’t count, no new companions were introduced π
The Master
March 30th, 2013 - 11:00pmDid you not realise that most of Series 6 was an introduction to River Song?
Matt smithy
March 31st, 2013 - 7:00amnot really, as its not. we learn more about her and who she is (and really it is based on river’s story), but we have already been introduced to her and desided if we love or hate the character. we are always learning new thngs about his companions, and series 6 just happened to have us learn who she is π
