What Did You Think of The Day of the Doctor?

What Did You Think of The Day of the Doctor?

The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th anniversary special.

In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.

Incidentally seeing tom baker with matt smith was so poignant. They just had to include him. The old curator and the doctor. Very touching.

Thought it might have shown ecclestones face for a brief moment when hurt regenerates. Would have brought it up to date.

I wonder why Chris Eccleston didn’t want to play any part in this or any of the 50th celebrations? Such a shame!

Emagine how different day of the doctor would have been if Chris Eccleston had played all the parts john hurt played. It would’ve been ‘Fantastic!’

I was a little disappointed when I left the theatre, there wasn’t much for classic Doctor Who fans and I had been hoping to see the 2013 title sequence in 3-D but instead they copy and pasted the old 1963 one which isn’t anywhere near as thrilling in 3-D as the 2013 one.

But other than that, the special was great. Matt Smith was great, John Hurt was great, David Tennant was…well, he’s there for the dweeks, the script and story line were absolutely amazing, they raised some very interesting questions about war, and indeed, the Doctor himself.

    So yes, it was superb.

That was a pretty awesome special, I have to say. I don’t think they could have crammed in any more fan service if they tried. :p (The Doctor Who fangirl/scientist was cute, and Tom Baker showing up at the last minute was the icing on the time cake). 😀

Although watching John Hurt makes me wish he was a full time Doctor… love that guy.. 🙂

The true 9th… Go watch the prequel “The night of the Doctor” and see why. Although the 9th Doctor is still the 9th “Doctor”, he is now the 10th incarnation and so on. John Hurt is the 9th incarnation but doesn’t refer to himself as the Doctor.

  • Jammy2305

    November 25th, 2013 - 12:42am

Hurts Doctor isn’t known as the Doctor… So Ecclestone is still “The 9th Doctor” and so on… Even though he is now the 10th incarnation. Capaldi is the 12th Doctor but the 13th and final incarnation of that Timelord.

Also this means The Master lives on!

Rassilon and the High Council were acting from the capital city whilst the High Command was operating from Arcadia, Gallifrey’s second city. Both events are happening during the last day of the war. The fall of Arcadia was probably the final tipping point for Rassilon to initiate his plans for the end of time. However, he was “defeated” by the Master before anything could happen. Meanwhile back in Arcadia, the Doctor’s were planning to freeze Gallifrey (In which they succeeded). Thus nothing from “The End of Time” has been changed. Hope this helps 🙂

there is an extra on the dvd called the last day. i think it may deal with the hurt regeneration, here’s hoping anyway

you’ve missed john guilor, the voice of the first doctor in day of the doctor and the planet of giants reconstruction. oh and richard hurndall, another first doctor.

  • Jammy2305

    November 25th, 2013 - 12:25am

    Oh dear… Where to start?

When Hurt regerates, Eccleston’s features are CGI’d in (Namely his eyes and darker colour of hair. Add this to the fact that the final credits show McGann, Hurt and Eccleston in that order, it confirms that, well… That’s the order!

Secondly, only the Timelords can grant a full new cycle of regerations. Capaldi is the final incarnation but Gallifrey has now returned. If Capaldi’s Doctor finds Gallifrey then there’s every chance that, for saving the planet, he will be rewarded a new cycle and the show will continue with 13 more incarnations.

    Hopefully that makes sense…

P.S Definately Amy and Rory 😉

Err, anyone else forget about the Zygons trying to take over the Earth stuck in room with UNIT. Would have liked to see that resolved, otherwise enjoyed.

In the end of time the dr says gallifrey was time locked and that the ood had shown him a prophecy, is it then beyond the realm of possibility that the timelords were returning AFTER the events of the day of the doctor where they were locked in time by the 3 doctors.

  • Dalek the Supreme

    November 24th, 2013 - 11:16pm

Karen, the Doctor probably doesn’t realize this yet. And they’re called Amy and Rory, by the way.

  • Dalek the Supreme

    November 24th, 2013 - 11:14pm

The Doctor said he forgot if he was lying about his age or not. The musical score is still written by Murray Gold, so why is it so bad that he isn’t recycling older tracks? I sense you’re one of the people who stopped liking the show when David Tennant left?

No, he would have become the same Doctor we saw in the 2005 resurrection, since he didn’t know Gallifrey survived until the 11th Doctor lived it.
