What Did You Think of The Day of the Doctor?

The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th anniversary special.

In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.

Absolutely amazing! I am so glad I watched it in the cinemas, because the atmosphere was brilliant! As soon as David Tennant and Peter Capaldi made their first appearance, the crowd just went wild! Every now and then I would see someone lift their sonic screwdriver in the air and flash it! 😆

The special itself was excellent! Although I was expecting something different, it was still great. The Zygons were extremely awesome, but here is my question:

    What happened to the Zygons?

You could just tell that when they started with the original opening titles it was going to be a great one. I loved the Tom Baker and Peter Capaldi cameos, John Hurt was incredible!. I think I can guess at what next seasons arc is (maybe). Finding Galifrey

But from the same tardis which saved the software

It can’t be the same sonic! It was eaten by Prisoner One and then by a flying shark.

Steven Moffat doesn’t decide how long it lasts. He gets given a time schedule by the BBC and that’s final.

I loved John Hurt in that episode, He was funny and a proper classic doctor. Ten and eleven were talking about timey-wimey,geronimo and alloys and he had no idea what they were talking about. and when the three doctors were in a line-ten and eleven acting all cool and there was hurt not giving a care in the world! He was fantastic!

Honestly don’t see how three sonic screwdrivers and kill a dalek :/ it’s really annoyed me, yer maybe the tardis has a shield on it do it could “bust” the daleks but the screwdrivers!!?? Really!!!!!!?

Just wonderful…two questions….how did were the past incarnations summoned to help save Gallifrey – wonderful sequence but puzzled how it happened.

Also….what on earth was Tom Baker….?

I screamed, and my parents (who aren’t as hardcore Doctor Who fans as me) were both like “SHUT UP!” from the other room ’cause I’d been making other squee-like noises for the entire time. xD

Both of you are wrong, I believe.
Moffat said at the 50th Anniversary Celebrations that he’s not re numbering the doctor, however, in theory John Hurt is the ninth doctor…
Before, he wasn’t referred to as ‘The Doctor’ but now after saving Gallifrey he has been referred to as the doctor… The ninth doctor.

I enjoyed it… But it wasn’t the fiftieth anniversary episode it should have been. It would have been a great anniversary episode for the new series, but as the episode for the history of the whole show, it fell a bit short. Tom Baker’s appearance was the only really special part. And I’m not entirely sure about the whole off to find Gallifrey biz. But hey ho, I’m sure lots of people think it as brilliant, and who’s going to argue with them?

so i gatherd that at the end of the doctors existance he turns back into an old tom baker and retires to earth(which is an amazing ending) what do you guys think oh and also THAT WAS AMAZING

With one sonic screwdriver, it’d take years, but with three…

And the Sonic is becoming too powerful.

The 50th David t was before his last episode referring to the master & time lords returned

The Doctor’s Wife, A good man goes to war, Night terrors, The Girl Who Waited, Closing Time isn’t too bad when you watch back over it for what it is, The wedding of River Song, and most of the others were all ok. Infact the only episodes I didn’t like were Curse of the black spot, Let’s kill Hitler and the God complex.

So, did anyone else get annoyed that a dalek fell to earth burning and survived, but in this episode some daleks get bumped by a tardis and they fall apart or they get pushed by a sonic screwdriver and fall over and burst into flames and die……really!? Daleks aren’t looking so powerful to me….

  • Matt Smithy

    November 24th, 2013 - 9:04am

Well, it’s your own fault for expecting to much. They had to make a decision and stick with it. Sure they COULD have had those companions back, but they wouldn’t just for the sake of it or it would ruin the story. Plus Tom WAS playing the Doctor… a future Doctor reliving old faces… And it didn’t need a key villain. It’s the 50th anniversary. If it was a normal episode what would be the point? It’s just made for you to sit and thing “wow, I love this show that’s been around for 50 years” and “oh, that was a nice reference/cameo”

It was fantastic….to see Tom Baker, David Tennant & Matt Smith celebrate with John Hurt & the breif but significant intro of Peter Capaldi was brilliant….I can’t wait to see what is store with the new season….here in Aus we can only but hope that there will be many more regenerations to come….Well done.

For some years now I’ve been wondering how Gallifrey was going to come back, and now it has, when the doctor finds it again. Loved the episode can’t wait for Christmas.so,e newspapers are slamming it,saying Moffat as done a Dallas shower scene, meaning all the previous episodes don’t mean a thing ,don’t they realise that with time travel you can do anything………..

  • sheldon

    November 24th, 2013 - 8:45am

if you think about it, the only doctor that knew of what the three had done was matt smith’s so in turn that would mean that Capaldi’s Doctor would know also as he was after, and so he knew of the opportunity to help… as for the other doctors, all i can think, is that the Bad wolf(as im calling the weapon) must have created more time tunnels….
    well that’s what i think… lol

Nice Baker Cameo also… this special makes up for quite a weak series, i’ll just believe that he was spending to much time writing this….

  • LEWIS

    November 24th, 2013 - 8:45am

no you’re wrong Hurt is the ninth Ecclestone the tenth Tennant the eleventh Smith the twelvth and Capaldi the thirteenth

I thought it was awsome I think David Tennant was funny but I still wouldn’t wnt him king of England even though I’m Scottish. I think he would still atract zygons and daleks to more places than just England 🙂

    November 24th, 2013 - 8:19am

So in this new reality Hurt is the 9th Doctor and Capaldi will be 10 sooooo…plenty more regenerations to go in this new doctor time line…our 10,11,12 (Ecclestone, Tennant, Smith) don’t exist on Capaldis time line as a doctor as he comes before them in a now changed reality…..FANTASTIC…..But I could have done with some RIVER SONG…

  • Booboo Jr

    November 24th, 2013 - 8:04am

Using the original title sequence was a nice way to pay homage to the shows first broadcast 50 years ago.

I reckon I’ll have to go back and watch the episode again to find all the references Moffat has thrown in!
