What Did You Think of The Name of The Doctor?
What Did You Think of The Name of The Doctor?
Clara receives a letter summoning her to a mysterious meeting, where she is given a message for the Doctor.
The meaning is uncertain, but when an enemy strikes the Time Lord is left with no choice but to travel to the one place in time and space he should never go – into a deadly trap that threatens to unravel his past, present and future.
Now that the final episode of series 7b has aired in the UK what did you think? Was it the best episode ever or just average.

May 19th, 2013 - 7:39pmLove how Clara was born to save the Doctor! Definitely my favourite companion yet!

May 19th, 2013 - 7:31pmAlso what he did he did not do in the name of the doctor so whatever happened in the time war was done as his real self (HIS REAL NAME) As the doctor stands for saving not destroying…..

May 19th, 2013 - 7:30pm2 days after that batman arkhem origins gets released 🙂

May 19th, 2013 - 7:28pmI agree with that as Paul M does not want to be part of the 50th anniversary so someone else has to fill his shoes some how. So yes sounds feasible he is an older vesion of the 8th doctor….

May 19th, 2013 - 7:05pmTHE BEST EPISODE OF THIS SERIES!. Strax has got to be the funniest person (well alien) in Doctor Who ever 🙂
RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND
May 19th, 2013 - 6:53pmit is silly.
Fortean Joe
May 19th, 2013 - 6:35pmThe clue to the end of this episode is the title “(In) The Name of The Doctor” and the Dcotor’s line that he chose his name as a promise [to the universe]. He states that John Hurt is him but is an incarnation that broke that promise, meaning he [John Hurt] was not the Doctor (despite the titles that flash up).

May 19th, 2013 - 6:09pmI believe they are aiming for the 23rd of November in the UK, since that’s the date of the Anniversary (first time Doctor Who was broadcast). If they stick to the usual schedules it will likely screen in Australia on the 24th of November though.

May 19th, 2013 - 6:06pmThey named themselves Foreman cause that was the name of the junkyard they lived in.
The Moffat Paradox
May 19th, 2013 - 5:32pmWill we ever have!
Pay attention Moffat will nonchalantly say. Really! Like watching each episode of series 5-7 50 times will be more enlightening as to plot coherence. Whole is less than the sum of the parts! Otherwise someone sum it all up here indisputably how everything in series 5-7 gels together once and for all!
That its even considered necessary sums up the problem. I can recall the thread of plots in series like Star Trek DS9 without remembering every episode in detail. Where’s the thread to follow that cuts cleary through all the episodes here based on all that’s happened before?
Had enough of this stream of consciousness/ throw everything in including the kitchen sink style/ deliberate misleading as to true(if any)meaning to anything style of “writing”.
See “Cold War”as far as I am concerned for how you write a Doctor Who episode never mind series arc that doesn’t insult logical thought when looked at as a whole.
“Silence will fall”! More like “nonsense will end” (hopefully) when Mark Gattis takes creative control.

May 19th, 2013 - 5:14pmI can only say that I enjoyed the episode with all of its twists, surprises and moffatortures. I can see him reading these posts, rubbing his hands and giggling with malicious glee. For yes he has once again succeeded, … always leaves us wanting more.

May 19th, 2013 - 5:09pmIf I heard it correctly, the names of the “secret” were listed and one of those names was “Valyard.” Master states in ‘Trial’ series “The Valeyard, Doctor, is your penultimate reincarnation… Somewhere between your twelfth and thirteenth regeneration”.

May 19th, 2013 - 5:03pmDid I miss something? One minute the doctor was INSIDE the tardis with clara having gained entrance via the secret door, then he was suddennly outside talking to the great intelegence. Is this another wibbly wobbly timy wimy moment like in series 5?
I know people like it (good) but I do think doctor who has gone down hill. Its still good but losing its way. I loved all the previous doctors in the episode, clever. BUT I do still feel anoyed with the plot threads unresolved. I dont think we will EVER find out who blew up the tardis. I thought it may have been the great intelegence but he is gone now so it cant be. What was the silence? who built the silence time machine? How did clara save ALL the previous doctors? Just by shouting his name? How did she stop the great inteligence in his time steam? Why didnt vastra forget like strax and jenny? Why is the inside tardis in its current form as a grave? Does that mean that thats it for the tardis?
So many questions….no apparent answers.

May 19th, 2013 - 4:54pmtotally agree with you. That is his seccret. Why he stole a tardis, why he took the name of the doctor. Not in my name. Nothing to do with the time war. Old plot threads have been lost. No exploding tardis, no silence. Thats moffats curse.

May 19th, 2013 - 4:29pmFor me, the high point in “The Name of the Doctor” was the interaction between Clara and William Hartnell’s Doctor. That and John Hurt. Other than that, the Episode was… Okay I guess.

May 19th, 2013 - 4:26pmdoctor who has gone down hill. Its still good but losing its way. I loved all the previous doctors in the episode, clever. BUT I do agree with the plot threads unresolved. May 19th, 2013 - 4:26pmAt what point? In the episode, he says that what has happened is that the dimensions of the interior have leaked out to the exterior, causing it to grow. Presumable after the episode takes place, the TARDIS just sits there in its final resting place on Trenzalore… quite a depressing thought really :/

May 19th, 2013 - 4:21pmDid anyone notice the blooper near the start of this episode. When we see the flashback to Gallifrey we hear a voice saying that a Tardis has been stolen. Well hold on a just a moment – the name Tardis was invented by the Doctor’s granddaughter, Susan. So the people who owned the machine before then wouldn’t have given it that name! She thought of it later. And also in the original Hartnell series, his granddaughter is called Susan Foreman. And her teachers Ian & Barbara called him Doctor Foreman when they first meet him. So is that his real name?
Quite a good episode, but am I the only one who gets tired of whoever is his current companion shouting ‘Doctorrrrrrr’ whenever there is some crisis at hand!
all the best
Paul in Sunny Cambridge, UK (yes I was 7 when the original series started – they showed episode 1 twice due to massive demand, the following week!)
The TARDIS
May 19th, 2013 - 4:18pmI know this isn’t a very popular opinion but… I really didn’t like it. The story was ineffectual, the twists were predictable and it all felt way too contrived. I liked the Whispermen, but they played very little part in the episode. The pre-titles sequence was great, but other than that, I found it just… boring. We also haven’t had a chance to get to know Clara yet, so her whole sacrifice story had very little impact. And anyway, it was wiped out seconds later. Just like the death of Jenny! Moments which could be emotional are wiped away.
Overall, series 7: My least favourite 2000s series. The Name of the Doctor: My least favourite finale.
Ready to be attacked by Moffat fans…

May 19th, 2013 - 4:16pmThat would make sense though. The time war doctor did something so horrible that he removed all memory of his regeneration. skipped it so to say. So 11th is really 12th.
TheDoctorGallifrey
May 19th, 2013 - 4:04pmSo does that mean that it’s bigger on the outside, but then the TARDIS would be the fields of trenzalore!

May 19th, 2013 - 4:04pmAnother theory is that he is The Other….a founding father of the Timelords that later became the one who called The Doctor.

May 19th, 2013 - 3:25pmoooo yeah i had the same thought that John Hurt was before William hartnell. Can’t wait for next series. Hope we find out more about River, love her character, will the Doctor return to the library and “reboot” River?

May 19th, 2013 - 3:16pmI think Hurt is going to reveal the Doctor’s name to save 10 and 11 and of course Rose and Clara, this would allow what Hurt said to be valid.
