Only just seen it on catch up.

What happened to the turkey and did it make the
    dining room table?

Not sure if this episode was a turkey and so I will watch it a couple more times.

Clara as ever holds it together.

will she be able to have the same flirty chemistry with Capaldi.. probably not appropriate .. so cant see her fitting in

    maybe wrong..

    another scots accent with capaldi

well done matt… I think the Snowman episode still one of my favourites.. great music too.,.

always sad to see a doctor go..

did he get the tardis key back?
    A Christmas Tarkey !!

well done all at BBC Wales

You know how it is, you put things off for a day and next thing you know, it’s a hundred years later

The Wooden Cyberman was a creative way for the Cybermen to infiltrate Trenzalore.

My mistake. Also, the Sixth Doctor’s last onscreen words were, in fact, Carrot juice, carrot juice, carrot juice…”

That would have been predictable. If there’s one thing Steven Moffat is good at, it’s almost always doing the unexpected.

The Doctor was protecting Trenzalore for centuries. Since his hair aged, it’s safe to say that it grew back while he was battling Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, and all those others.

I have noticed a tiny plot hole when the 11th doctor regenerated into capaldi. capaldi should have been seen whereing matts wig and the wig would have not regenerated

After watching it again I enjoyed it a bit more but I’m still annoyed he didn’t say Geronimo.

Maybe, but if SM didn’t write it, how are we meant to know it?

I think it helps to watch the episode again a couple of times which i normally do as we all miss something on the intial viewing, on the whole it was a good episode and had a lot to live up to compared to the 50th aniversary!
Maybe it could have been a little better and i have seem comments about the regeneration scene being too short?
From what i see this was a two stage regeneration with the initial phase on the clock tower (reset?) after getting his new life cycle, phase two was in the tardis which was a little quicker than what we are used to. don’t forget what the doctor said about that regeneration being a little longer than normal and i wonder if that is due to his “rebirth?”.
As for Peter Capaldi i have every confidence we are in for something special with his take on the new Doctor! Roll on 2014!

Ros, you’ve seen less than 30 seconds of Peter Capaldi as the Doctor so far, so you cannot judge him on that short clip. Also remember, he’s still loopy after regeneration.

Ithink that the story should havebeen a 2 paerter like tens last. This would have allowed SM to, let it flow and giving more indepth detail to ‘Christmas’ and ‘Handles’. Not ONE ‘Geronimo in the entire episode, bit diapointed. I think that by having a quick regeneration it got rid of the tension and shocked the viewers by giving something they’re not used to. (that was a good thing) 8/10 Moffat- OK, but nowhere near DOTD.
    😉

    Agree mostly. 🙂

I wonder if the Tardis was in a strop about the Doctor regenerating, an that is why it was crashing? 😀

im glad it was not that as that would have been to predictable

I quite enjoyed it. Yes it had its pacing issues. Yes it should have been longer and yes, I still believe SM should go and hand over to MG. But over all I quite enjoyed it. Better on a second viewing.
Im amazed at the number of people making bold statements about PC as he was only in it for a few seconds. Lets hope that when the series returns he will bring more gravitas and ‘old school’ Doctor with him instead of the childish, schmaltzy stuff we’ve had of late.
Lets also hope that Clara stays around for a while. Second best assistant (to the great Sarah Jane)inmy humble opinion.

Tried watching again. A tad better, but still very disappointing!

  • RORY DOCTOR RIVER POND

    December 28th, 2013 - 1:45pm

I thought I would watch it again before I said anything, but I still found it not that great. The plot was a miss mash and moved too quickly, and too many story arcs were answered. I think the Crack in Time should’ve been left alone, as series 5 was Matt and Steven’s test series. The Silence didn’t have a major part and just got slated by the old Daleks, which should’ve been the new ones. Not fond of the growing old thing either as I think the Doctor should’ve been allowed to be him for his last episode, not restricted by a walking stick. I still don’t know why the monsters all wanted the Doctor, as he wasn’t saying his name anyway, and again Clara saved the day and stole the show as she made the TL’s give the Doc more lives.

It was great to see Amy at the end, and part of me thinks she should’ve just stuck with him for his whole era, as the Crack was essentially her story. She could’ve upped and left Capaldi saying ; I don’t want to forget my Doctor’ or something like that. Would’ve been nice to see Rory there too, he could’ve just come on with Amy. Also the 11th Doctor’s last line was well written, and the regeneration wasn’t too bad.

Capaldi will be great, although he was just like Matt’s entrance, and I think he should’ve been like the 6th Doctor. Also the TARDIS was randomly crashing…

I was quite disappointed with the whole thing, at many moments it got good, then fell a bit flat.

Not to mention, the start of a whole new set of regenerations. He must be very very confused right now

I guess so. I’ll have to re-watch the episode when it comes out on dvd. I was a bit sleepy when I watched it.
I do remember the wooden Cyberman. What were they thinking? Didn’t care for that at all.

Because there were thousands if different species there, so they can’t show them all, and personally I’m happy they didn’t, the slitheen seem a bit more of a comical alien to me and would ruin the atmosphere of the episode.

I think that regeneration was just so powerful as he’d just got more lives, so for the next they should have it like tennent to smiths but have a different effect. Something like the regeneration on top of the chuch tower with like molten liquid stuff shot out of his hands, like we was in TTOTD, just not as powerful or big.

That’s a big assumption for 30 seconds of screen time.
