Looking to fill a gap in the BBC's Saturday evening schedule, the new Head of Drama, Sydney Newman, initiated concept work on a science fiction program that would eventually become Doctor Who.

Recording for 100,000 BC takes place at the BBC Television Studios in London. Although it doesn't include any of the principal cast. One of the first shots does include the TARDIS.
