Doctor Who Series 5 Final ratings
The final total viewing figures for the last 2 episodes of series 5 were not immediately available via the official BARB website but have now been disclosed.
All figures include the HD channel but not BBC i player which in itself has achieved very high downloads figures with every episode achieving well over 1m views. The AI for the last 2 episodes were also very high and the best of the series.
This year has seen a big shift in viewing habits with less people watching the programme “live”, instead choosing to record and watch it later or make use of the i player.
The final figures are as follows…
The Eleventh Hour 10.08 million
The Beast Below 8.4 million
Victory of the Daleks 8.2 million
The Time of Angels 8.6 million
Flesh and Stone 8.5 million
The Vampires of Venice 7.7 million
Amy’s Choice 7.5m
The Hungry Earth 6.5m
Cold Blood 7.5m
Vincent and the Doctor 6.8m
The Lodger 6.44m
The Pandorica Opens 7.58m
The Big Bang 6.7m

Does it matter which set of numbers you use?
Plug both into excel and graph them!
They look like the same water slide to me ;-(

that means:
1st THE ELEVENTH HOUR
2nd THE BEAST BELOW
3rd THE TIME OF ANGELS
4th FLEASH AND STONE
5th VICTORY OF THE DALEKS
6th AMY’S CHOICE
7th THE VAMPIRES OF VENICE
8th THE PANDORICA OPENS
9th THE BIG BANG
10th COLD BLOOD
11th THE LODGER
12th VINCENT AND THE DOCTOR
13th THE HUNGREY EARTH
I like all the episodes this season incept the lodger, it was boring and pointless. Alough some of the episodes where confusing. My very favourite was the beast below.

They sent a boy to do a man’s job and it shows.

While not a big fan of the new Moffat/Smith Doctor Who, I had no idea the ratings have been declining that drastically (or that steadily)! Geez, if those were the altimeter readings on an airplane, I think I’d be looking around for my parachute about now….!!

Generally a good series! dissapointed by Big bang getting only 6.7m!
Fingers Crossed!
But maybe series 6 will have better ratings!

I agree the ratings drops were due to good weather. As someone else has pointed out, Parting of the Ways got even less. Maybe thats why they’re splitting the series in two next year, it’s sure to get better ratings on cold wet autumn nights

The thing is you can see where David Tennant fans have abandonned the series just because he left, and you can see fans who clung on because they loved the series, then it just drops :/ I think the whole series is summarised by how Steven Mofat came up with one of the best doctor whos ever- Blink, and then managed to completely murder it. Loving all of the stupid changes by the way, technicolour darleks, why did no-one think of that before? Yeah that was sarcasm >.<

The reason the ratings are continually falling is obvious when you look at the thing objectively – the acting is all over the place, the stories have holes in logic big enough to drive a truck through, the TARDIS interior looks like someone’s grotty garage, and seemingly no one is editing the scripts! I have loved Dr. Who for years, but the current series is barely watchable. People criticise Russell Davies a good deal, but the man’s writing was good, most of the stories made sense, the lead actors had sufficient experience and gravitas to carry the roles, and frankly, the previous retinue of characters were better formed and much more appealing. The current bunch come across as half-witted upstarts. Who will save the universe now? Certainly not this bumbling buffoon of a Doctor and his precious know-it-all sidekick. The potential for this show is huge, but not in the hands of Moffat et al. He has demonstrated his inability to hold it all together. I predict that ratings will stay low or even continue to fall, and if they do, it may be the kiss of death for Dr. Who. Bring on some real actors and competent writers before it is too late!

sorry to say but the fact is its gone back to the late 70 s without russel at the helm there s no carector s we care about no tension no cant waite for the next series all the above sums it up wrong producer sorry but chris and tennent era was more egsiting to whatch matt is brilliant in the roll but they have got to look back at that era before its cancelled again i v been a fan from the late 60 s so this is not an easy critisisum to make

I dont think this series was as good the first 4 of the new gen and a couple of the show’s were proper dodgy but it was a new team and thay probably needed a bit of time to get it right i think thay just need to look at whats already been done and learn from that
also no more shows like the lodger one cos that was BAD!!!!!!!!

It’s simple, it was the hot weather. Nuff said.

@de379, opinions vary as to the sizeable drop in audience. My view is that the BBC tried to change too much too quickly – new Doctor, new assistant, new Tardis, new producer, new titles, new theme tune. It was almost wiping the slate clean and starting again, and they were never going to please everyone with that many changes especially “post-Tennant”.

of the topic but what ever happened to the blue peter designed tardis as we did not see it in series 5

Well overall Series 5 was brilliant! The Pandorica Opens was a awesome episode and The Eleventh Hour was a great start to the series! The 11th Doctor is brilliant and so is Amy and Rory! Can’t wait for the Christmas episode and Series 6!

i like the pandorica opens and the big bang because they were awsome!!!!!

It’s more ratings than Parting of the Ways achieved. Every episode has hit the top twenty, with 7 in the top ten so I don’t think anyone has to worry. With the exception of the overrated world cup, viewers were down across ALL channels with Doctor Who tunning miles ahead on the iPlayer and BBC3 repeat. When the show dips to 2 million, that’ll be time to worry.

WHAT! I thought the Big Bang would have the highest ratings. Well I watch them again and again, the christmas special needs to get the ratings. popualerise it, tell people it’s good. Get Doctor Who back in the game. DOCTOR WHO FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Anonymous July 10th, 2010
the finale’s low because BARB dosent add the iplayer and BBC three repeats.
Posted by: The Next Doctor Not Really July 10th, 2010
The Lodger being that low was to be expected with the England game on but The Big Bang does seem to low for a finale:\
