12th Doctor Revealed – What do you Think?

The new Doctor is Peter Capaldi!

So the wait is over and we now know who will take over from Matt Smith in the Christmas Special – so what do you think?

In a special live broadcast, the BBC today announced that the role of Doctor Who would next be played by Peter Capaldi.

Amid much hype and speculation, Peter Capaldi was unveiled as the next Doctor during a special live television event on BBC ONE tonight.

Widely regarded as one of the biggest roles in British television, Capaldi will be the Twelfth Doctor and takes over from Matt Smith who leaves the show at Christmas.

Peter Capaldi says: “Being asked to play The Doctor is an amazing privilege. Like the Doctor himself I find myself in a state of utter terror and delight. I can’t wait to get started.”

Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer says : “It’s an incendiary combination: one of the most talented actors of his generation is about to play the best part on television. Peter Capaldi is in the TARDIS!”

Doctor Who companion, Jenna Coleman says “I’m so excited Peter Capaldi is the man taking on the challenge of becoming the Twelfth Doctor. With Steven’s writing and his talent I know we’ll be making an amazing show with an incredible incarnation of number 12. I can’t wait to start this new adventure!”

Charlotte Moore, Controller BBC One says : “Peter Capaldi has all the genius and versatility needed to take on the mantel of the great Time Lord and make the role his own. He’ll bring his own particular wisdom, charisma and wit to the Twelfth Doctor and take the show into an exciting new era.”

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning says : “We started thinking Peter Capaldi might be the right person to take on this iconic part a few months ago. But it was only when he did a secret audition at Steven’s house under the cover of darkness that we knew we had our man. He’s an extraordinarily talented actor who can seemingly turn his hand to anything. We can’t wait to premiere his unique take on the Doctor on Christmas Day and we are sure he’s going to become one of the all-time classic Doctors.”

Yes, you are correct, I am an older fan but my favourite doctor is Matt Smith….so I can relate to him as well as I related to the older actors when I was a kid. I think it would be a shame if today’s generation of younger viewers could not relate to the new doctor just because he is older – it will be different, yes but he will still be a a cool role model. Look at Star Trek NG….they introduced a bald, older English guy who rarely ran or fought…yet he turned out to be as popular as the good old American (Canadian) action hero Kirk.

I’m happy with this. I don’t think it will cause much confusion as it happened before when Colin baker appeared in ark of infinity. However it is going to be slightly strange as this doctor will not be romantic but more of a father figure to clara. Which I think is going to be refreshing. Just going to be a bit awkward for clara knowin that she flirted alot with a now 55 year old bodied man aha. But I am very happy and I hope they keep his accent unlike with David tennant

The only fault that I can say about Peter is the age difference between him and Jenna Louise Colman, but Jon pertwee and Tom baker worked with Elizabeth s laden well so it may be ok!

I am delighted at the chance to create some real drama and the darkness that this actor may bring to the role.

DT was my favorite so far as he was versatile and could easily do both. I dont feel as there was enough dark moments with smith and i look foward to having that again.

Well Peter capaldi is a natural at acting he’s been doing it years like Christopher ecclestone hes a fan of doctor who himself like David tenant and hell make the show more watchable for our age rather than little 8 year old kids!!! This doctor I believe will undo the stupidity and dumbness of the show that matt smith added to it doctor who will once again be watchable by all generations rather than just little kids, I also believe Peter capaldi will bring back many of the old fans that stopped watching because of matt smith taking over and if he doesn’t its a sign that matt smith has scared the show for life!

I still hope that Jenna stays in doctor for another couple of series maybe more. An I think I understand the thing about how he can be the doctor. Every thing is cool.

I’m still getting used to the new doctor thing but I think that they have released the name too early because now the 50th doesn’t seem right to be because we know about the new doctor and who he is going to be. I am meeting matt smith but now he is not officially the doctor, he is the old doctor.

Very pleased with the appointment of Peter Capaldi. I have enjoyed his work on The Hour, et al, and hope he is allowed to bring some statesmanship, authority, gentlemanly qualities, weight, gravity and drama to the role. He is an excellent actor.

Jesus, Josh. Leave the poor man alone! I hope he will last much longer than 1 sereis. Whatever a sereis is. Stop criticising him! If you really don’t like him Josh then tell me, what kind of personality will the Twelfth Doctor have? What’s that? You don’t know? Stop criticising him then!

He’s not far off from William Hartnells age when he played the First Doctor and he had children interested in the show.
