Doctor Who – Filming the New Series

Doctor Who – Filming the New Series

From the official site

It’s almost time. New monsters are becoming real, old friends are returning to Cardiff and somewhere in Wales, a tweed jacket is being taken from its hanger and lovingly dusted off. It can only mean one thing… Filming on the new series of Doctor Who begins on 20 February, 2012!

The first director to shout ‘action’ will be the award-winning Saul Metzstein whose previous credits include Micro Men (starring Alexander Armstrong and Martin Freeman), the critically acclaimed Late Night Shopping and BBC Wales’ Upstairs Downstairs. For the very first time, Doctor Who will be produced at the new BBC Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff, which officially open in March. The production team includes Steven Moffat (Executive Producer and lead writer), Caroline Skinner (Executive Producer) and Marcus Wilson (Producer).

The new series will see Matt Smith return as the Doctor in what Steven Moffat has described as ‘the biggest, the best and the most ambitious season we’ve ever made’. Karen Gillan (Amy) and Arthur Darvill (Rory) are both back, for what will be their final voyage with the Doctor – a thrilling rollercoaster ride which will culminate in a heart-breaking farewell to the Ponds. But there will be more shocks, surprises and adventures to come when the Doctor meets a new friend, in the last very place he could ever have expected…

And yes! We’ve been promised the return of some old monsters, but some new and terrifying ones lie in wait for the Doctor…

We’ll be bringing you all the news about the incredible new series as it emerges, so stay tuned for some big surprises!

Doctor Who Writers Confirmed

It’s also been confirmed that Toby Whithouse and Chris Chibnall are writing episodes for the new series of Doctor Who. Both writers have previously penned stories full of pace, horror and humour so it’s great news they’re back on board for what will be an amazing new season!

Toby hinted at his involvement in an interview last year. When asked if he would be writing future adventures, he replied, ‘Well, let’s just say… emails have been exchanged. Ideas have been discussed. Tea has been drunk.’ Well-known for writing and creating BBC Wales’ award-winning Being Human, he has previously contributed to three series of Doctor Who, writing School Reunion, The Vampires of Venice and The God Complex.

Chris Chibnall’s credits include Life on Mars, Torchwood and United, and for Doctor Who, 42 and The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood which saw the return of the Silurians.

Just watch it and don’t expect any returning villains.

I expected Omega to be in the Doctor’s Wife, but instead it was some random spirit called House. ❓ DISSAPOINTED I was.

    Yes !

I think it’s great they aren’t airing it soo soon after Series 6, it’s right to , you know, take the time.

Quality is important, and the air time in Autumn will surely be for the best. 😉

It’s most likely becuase of stuff like the Olympics and the Queens diamond jubilee which could affect Doctor Who if it aired in Spring/Summer so it’s been put back to Autumn which is perfect really as we’ll get to watch it on darker nights! 🙂

Yeah they say it will be the biggest and best series every year but my expectations are extremely low after series 6. What with all the budget cuts

He also used those words in his Sherlock episode, so I’d be cautious about it.

hmm i will miss the ponds dont get me wrong but i think its time for someone or something else but i hope the doctor vists them like craig thats if they dont kill them off or something i think i would like an alien from a destroyed planet or the last of there kind so they have something to relate to the doctor also it eradicates all of the awkwardness

All we know so far is that series 7 will begin late 2012, Steven Moffat is writing about 5 episodes, John Fay (From Torchwood) is writing one, Mark Gatiss is writing one, Chris Chibnall is writing one (which contains the biggest set ever) and Toby Whithouse is also writing one.

I wonder if the krynoids will ever return (I hope so)…Also, I BET Sophia Myles is gonna be the assistant. And, if so, I’m VERY VERY excited.

I doubt it will be as enjoyable as Series 6, he intends for it to be different, in several major ways. Lets Kill Hitler, Closing Time and Wedding of Riversong were all very strong, very memorable stories. 🙂

Don’t like them ? Go watch your David Tennant years, much less memorable, they were back when Dr Who wasn’t realised for it’s full potential in the 21st Century, it was nothing more than an entertaining TV series. ❗

Apparently Toby Whithouse’s story is episode 3 yet that is one of the last to feature the Ponds. They will most likely leave around episodes 5-7 which will be the perfect time for them to leave as we’ll pretty much have half and half of the Ponds and the new companion.

I live just outside of Cardiff so on the 13th Feb I will go down outside the studio and stay out there for abit to see if I can find any cast/crew then on the 20th onwards I will be in Cardiff all the time! cant wait!

    February 9th, 2012 - 4:40pm

i think that the ponds will be back for say the first 2 episodes and the they’ll make them a huge opening story like they did in sereis 6 to say goodbye, and then the new companion will come in episode 3 !!! or either if the series is split in half then the ponds might be back for half of the season but i think thats dragging there story on for a bit to long!

Really excited for the new series. Glad to hear Toby Whithouse is returning as a writer as well. Hopefully we’ll be hearing a few more small details about the Doctors new companion soon! I can’t wait!! 😀

Should have just finished with the Ponds last season. Its a bit overkill now, should just start with a new companion.
