Doctor Who – Filming the New Series

Doctor Who – Filming the New Series

From the official site

It’s almost time. New monsters are becoming real, old friends are returning to Cardiff and somewhere in Wales, a tweed jacket is being taken from its hanger and lovingly dusted off. It can only mean one thing… Filming on the new series of Doctor Who begins on 20 February, 2012!

The first director to shout ‘action’ will be the award-winning Saul Metzstein whose previous credits include Micro Men (starring Alexander Armstrong and Martin Freeman), the critically acclaimed Late Night Shopping and BBC Wales’ Upstairs Downstairs. For the very first time, Doctor Who will be produced at the new BBC Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff, which officially open in March. The production team includes Steven Moffat (Executive Producer and lead writer), Caroline Skinner (Executive Producer) and Marcus Wilson (Producer).

The new series will see Matt Smith return as the Doctor in what Steven Moffat has described as ‘the biggest, the best and the most ambitious season we’ve ever made’. Karen Gillan (Amy) and Arthur Darvill (Rory) are both back, for what will be their final voyage with the Doctor – a thrilling rollercoaster ride which will culminate in a heart-breaking farewell to the Ponds. But there will be more shocks, surprises and adventures to come when the Doctor meets a new friend, in the last very place he could ever have expected…

And yes! We’ve been promised the return of some old monsters, but some new and terrifying ones lie in wait for the Doctor…

We’ll be bringing you all the news about the incredible new series as it emerges, so stay tuned for some big surprises!

Doctor Who Writers Confirmed

It’s also been confirmed that Toby Whithouse and Chris Chibnall are writing episodes for the new series of Doctor Who. Both writers have previously penned stories full of pace, horror and humour so it’s great news they’re back on board for what will be an amazing new season!

Toby hinted at his involvement in an interview last year. When asked if he would be writing future adventures, he replied, ‘Well, let’s just say… emails have been exchanged. Ideas have been discussed. Tea has been drunk.’ Well-known for writing and creating BBC Wales’ award-winning Being Human, he has previously contributed to three series of Doctor Who, writing School Reunion, The Vampires of Venice and The God Complex.

Chris Chibnall’s credits include Life on Mars, Torchwood and United, and for Doctor Who, 42 and The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood which saw the return of the Silurians.

I agree with you, moffat has turnned this Tv show to soppy, slow-going, boring (yawn), long story-lined show.
I do enjoy those sort of programs, but dr who never was one of them intill now, you cant just change the genre when the 50th anversery is comming up, at this rate dr who will be going where confidential went – IN THE BIN!!!

I think that Amy will leave the TARDIS (With a final adventure) and Rory will leave too. Maybe, or one of them will die or break up or something along those lines.

I am kind of hoping the Zygons and maybe the Ice Warriors will be back, so long as they update them a bit just like they did with the Silurians. Also Captain Jack ( as I personally think that Torchwood is finished ). A new companion is always quite exciting to see in the Tardis. What old enemies do the rest of you want to see return???

Even though Rose was a great character, I think it would be wrong to bring her back, she had her time, and it wouldn’t feel the same as it did with Tennant or Eccleson

Doctor Who starting in the Spring has only really been a recent thing, originally it was always Autumn/Winter.
