We’re thrilled to confirm that David Tennant and Billie Piper will join Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman in the 50th Anniversary special!

And not only that, acting legend John Hurt will also be guest-starring!

David Tennant and Billie Piper to return for blockbuster celebrations with John Hurt also confirmed.

The BBC has today revealed some of the all-star cast that will mark the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. David Tennant and Billie Piper will join current Doctor and companion, Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman, while John Hurt (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Alien, Harry Potter) will also co-star.

Last seen as the Doctor on January 1st 2010, this will be the first time Tennant has reprised his role as the Tenth Doctor. During his reign as the Time Lord, Tennant appeared in three series as well as several specials. He was first revealed as the Doctor in the 2005 series finale, ‘The Parting of the Ways’.

Meanwhile Billie Piper, who played companion Rose Tyler for two series following the reboot in 2005, will appear in the show for the first time since featuring in Tennant’s last episode, ‘The End of Time’ in 2010.

Also confirmed to join the cast is John Hurt who will also co-star in the 3D anniversary special that will form part of blockbuster celebrations, set to take over the BBC. Produced by BBC Cymru Wales for BBC One, the 50th anniversary will be written by Steven Moffat and Directed by Nick Hurran.

Filming for the 50th anniversary starts this week. Meanwhile a brand new series starts on BBC ONE today (30 March) at 6:15pm for a run of eight epic episodes, which officially introduces the Doctor’s newest companion, Clara Oswald, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.

It’s not our fault David was such a great Doctor!

That was a joke by the way. David Tennant was still BRILLIANT though.

My theory is the 10th Doctor and Rose will be when they traveled together, before the events of Doomsday.
I bet a lot of females are happy Tennant is back.

So am I, but ya don’t see me going –

Over and over and over again. It’s one of the most annoying things so many of us Doctor Who fan’s have to put up with from those obsessed with David Tennant rather then just being obsessed with Doctor Who such as myself.

I bet he will be playing an aged half human meta crisis Doctor, rather than the actual 10th Doctor.

Well given that we’ve got the other six major Doctor Who enemies coming back this year it would make sense.

    March 31st, 2013 - 5:47pm

    Or rather, David Tennant.

    March 31st, 2013 - 5:47pm

    I like David Teannant.

    March 31st, 2013 - 5:17pm

Hopefully this will shut up a lot of ‘BRING BACK DAVID TENNANT !’ fan’s from going on and on about him, but seeing as his only gonna be in this one off special, they’ll soon be driving us up the wall again with ‘BRING BACK DAVID TENNANT – AGAIN !!’.

Yes and maybe companions whose Doctors aren’t alive today could be paired up with those Doctors like 8 and 9

Time is relative, just because rose and meta ten are in a parallel universe, does not mean to say that smith wont go back on his own timeline and run into ten and rose in a past adventure.

Scott, it says some of the casting news has been revealed. Anything could be happening

  • Dalek The Supreme

    March 31st, 2013 - 2:32am

Come on! I hate Rose and don’t like Tennant as much as the other Doctors, and I’m still excited!

  • Dalek The Supreme

    March 31st, 2013 - 2:29am

Oh, and the Daleks of course! How could I forget the Daleks?

  • Dalek The Supreme

    March 31st, 2013 - 2:28am

it says its been confirmed by the bbc

  • Colin Buckley

    March 31st, 2013 - 12:32am

    The best doctor..

  • John Smith

    March 30th, 2013 - 11:34pm

    Made me laugh!

  • John Smith

    March 30th, 2013 - 11:24pm

I’m not really sure what to think about this news. I’m taking a guess in saying that they’ll probably be back but it won’t be THE TENTH DOCTOR. It’ll be the human meta-crisis version of himself. However they will wrap a storyline around the return of David and Billie, the parallel universes, the 11th Doctor and Clara is making me wonder… Will they really be able to pull this off?

  • MasterKasterborous

    March 30th, 2013 - 11:24pm

Or it could be the actual Doctor and Rose from their adventures set during Season 28…

  • Coming Full Circle

    March 30th, 2013 - 10:55pm

The Face of Boe, who is possibly Jack Harkness would be a surprise return?

  • Coming Full Circle

    March 30th, 2013 - 10:44pm

I am thinking The Master may perhaps return, and that possibly Clara is his daughter??? Or that The Master returns as well played by John Hurt, who is also appearing in the episode?

  • thedaleksdeath

    March 30th, 2013 - 10:00pm

Or it could be the Doctor and Rose from series 2?
