The Moffat Paradox
January 12th, 2018 - 2:12amCame across articles I’ve read with wry amusement in which Moffatt says that people who voted for Brexit would be less likely than people with more “progressive” views to accept a female Doctor and that the writers had to worry about these viewers saying: “that’s not the same person” as “This isn’t a show exclusively for progressive liberals, this is also for people who voted Brexit.”(It obviously escapes him that people on the left voted for Brexit as well; which is why that’s called Lexit.)
Well other than the fact that is perfectly possible to have voted for Brexit and be happy with the gender change or have voted for Remain and detest it and that it’s lazy thinking to claim being “progressive” is always synonymous with improvement on anything that existed and worked well before (progress just literally means moving forward as in a new year in space and time; it doesn’t necessarily lead to a better outcome just because you’ve made this progress..) as TA puts it here: “It’s not just about the gender, it is also about the agenda pushing things they have been implanting in to the show”.
So if Moffatt in his time and Chibnal now were really so worried about instilling a viewer and fan revolt when their “progressive” agenda peddling has become so transparent if the damage isn’t already irrevocable perhaps the writing team’s new year resolution could be to stop giving the impression that outside of Who they live in a world in which Remain won the referendum and Hilary Clinton is in the White House.

tj
December 3rd, 2017 - 3:03pmAs usual a load of hate commentary.
FYI nearly all DR Who outfits are denegrated at first and then adored later as iconic and representative.
I love the outfit, it’s a fashion forward take on the Dr’s eccentic look.
fits right in with expected fashion trends of 2018.
Jodie will be amazing as the 13th/14th doc depending on your take of the count and I can’t wait to see what variances she brings to the show.
I expect she will add a general feeling of inclusiveness, diversity and hope given the supporting line up.
But don’t let that make anyone assume she can’t also bring, defintiveness of purpose, anger, rage and considerable darkness to counterbalance the general staging.
can’t wait..

December 3rd, 2017 - 8:39pmWell said tj! I think there is something quite angelic about the look. Not just the costume but the background aswell. Can’t wait too see her in action.

Dalek Bumps
January 5th, 2018 - 2:30pmI’ve decided I don’t like the costume. It looks ridiculous, and looks like something cobbled together without much thought. It’s looking more like a light weight kiddies tv version of Doctor Who. It’s how the Doctor would look if she made a guest appearance on ‘Balamory’! Seriously get a grip BBC, and get the Doctor in something that can be taken seriously, and not looking like an outright joke!
Dalek Bumps
January 6th, 2018 - 2:14pmIt’s like the return of JNT’s excess influence in poor taste of costume attire of the mid-late 1980’s. One hopes this costume for Jodie’s Doctor changes during series 11 (season 37), and does so quite rapidly…ideally in the second or third episode.

January 4th, 2018 - 1:14amThere are many theories such they need a boost in viewing, they want to try something different or it for a pc agenda, which could be the most likely the way the show has been going recent years.
The Outcast
January 4th, 2018 - 2:03pmThe way to boost viewer numbers is simple, figure out what was good about was good about the most popular years of the show (e.g. the 4th and 10th Doctor years) and update that somewhat to fit what is currently popular in media today, e.g. 80’s style (seems to be shown here), having more female sci-fi/action heroes (check) and whatever else is most popular in media.
T.A
January 5th, 2018 - 9:03pmI think what was good about those eras was the storytelling, at the beginning tom had some of the best doctor who stories, same with David in his run, until Moffat’s writing started to go down and pc agenda was probably coming in. They need to have good storytelling and no political bias in it, and do smart decisions that won’t affect the fan base too much, but…
Pats86
November 14th, 2017 - 3:51pmLooks like all bases are being covered by the back ground in this picture, is that a sunrise and dawn of a new era? Or is it the sun setting on a once great British institution and show?

November 13th, 2017 - 5:08pmSo, ive just been reading a “rumour” that the Doctor’s trench coat isnt actually beige…. but its actually light blue.
First there was that stupid viral dress being black and blue or white and gold (it was clearly black and blue). Then a trend on a pair of shoes being either of two sets of colours, now this….
If her coat is light blue then im actually a real life Cyberman. Whats next, the TARDIS is really bright green with pink flowers?
Doctor Stu
November 13th, 2017 - 6:26pmJust came here to write this XD and that viral image of the dress was about how our eyes take in light and how we perceive colour, I saw yellow and white and if I looked at the same image again at different parts of the day I saw blue and black so I can appreciate that this coat might actually be blue
The Outcast
November 14th, 2017 - 7:34amWell you must be a Cyberman then, because Edward Russel, Doctor Who’s brand manager confirmed it is a light blue lilac colour.

November 13th, 2017 - 1:18pmThe show is, I fear, heading for the wilderness years again.
New costume is dreadful. Can’t get my head round this particular change of doctor either. Sorry.

November 13th, 2017 - 2:01pmYes I feel a dumbing down element. Would a 2000 year old Time(person) really dress like this? Be prepared to accept DW to be more like SJA. There is nothing wrong with SJA but we adult fans require something more substantial and we may not be heading in that direction. Heard Gatiss is not writing for the new series (bad) and Chibnall has not written any exceptional episodes thus far. One thing they could do is get rid of the sonic screwdriver because that gets the Doctor out of too many dangers and encourages lazy writing.

November 13th, 2017 - 10:13pmSo agree s9 was my death of the show, Miss know it all Clara, the Clara show Me character who was boring as for end of s9 dont get me started Missy River song, thank god for S10. Now I just can’t get excited for s11, to be honest I’ve stopped caring.
The Outcast
November 14th, 2017 - 7:36amSeries 9 was the worst. How that is suppose to be the “Best Series” as many proclaim it is astounds me. News flash, just because a Series has 1 good episode, doesn’t mean it’s an instant 10/10 best Series eva!
T.A
November 14th, 2017 - 5:59pmSeries’s 9 is when the bbc agenda started to probably come in the show.
Adam
November 19th, 2017 - 12:53pmI agree T.A …series 9 was when the BBC agenda started….and this new ‘alternate universe Time lady’ version was never Chibnall’s ‘bold idea'(no matter how much spin he puts on it),but the BBC’s.
No Chibnall and Moffat are just the puppets…so called fan boys who are destorying this once great show…
Bert
December 30th, 2017 - 7:25amI think it started in series 8, which is the worse series of who ever, I’ve tried rewatching it several times, I can stomach some episodes but a lot of it is absolute guff and more like watching eastenders (another programme stamped all over by the PC brigade and their imagined idea of the working classes) with little bits of doctor who thrown in. Hope Chibnall doesn’t feel the need to continue this. I didn’t switch off for Capaldi because I’m a massive who fan but now the programme has worn me down and is quite frankly getting boring, shame when they have such a great idea to play with

November 12th, 2017 - 7:17pmThis is a terrible travesty. It looks like a bland advert for PRINGLE. The actor concerns me – the Doctor is supposed to be eccentric. if they were going for a woman, they should have gone for Kathy Burke or Francis De la Tour, real character actors to follow in the same tradition as Troughton, Pertwee, Baker. Sorry but Whitakker is not an eccentric. This is a disaster.
Dalek Eye Stalk
November 13th, 2017 - 3:33pmThis is the same issue I have with Whittaker. Whittaker can certainly act, but she lacks the eccentricity, the gravitas, and the leading character qualities the role needs. It all feels like a watered down light weight Doctor Who. It’s a show clearly on it’s last legs sadly.
Doctor You
November 14th, 2017 - 7:47pmWe haven’t seen her in any action at all, so give her a break. They hired her for some reason. According to the bbc when she auditioned she was amazing, actors can grow and learn, don’t judge her completely in her past works.

Lorraine
November 13th, 2017 - 2:35pmAnonymous is discounting 2018 because that it when it is feared the series will die due to conceited writers trying to top the shock value of their predecessors unnecessarily and to commit to the BBC PC World and give important roles to those actors they perhaps found easy to manage during previous projects they ran/wrote.
It just MIGHT still be okay.

December 12th, 2017 - 11:15am@Pats86
I doubt the BBC would remove this or NuWho from the continuity. When NuWho dies and then we eventually get a NuNuWho or Post-NuWho or something like that, they’ll just have that follow both NuWho and Classic Who, as much as I’d kinda like them to restart from the Classic Series and get rid of all the Doctor romance and lore meddling. Its the same reason they didn’t discard the TV movie.
Andrew Blakey
November 12th, 2017 - 1:59pmI think the new costume brings, a little more light and fun to the series. I only a couple of the 12th Doctor episodes and drifted away from it. Since hearing that Jodie Whittaker was cast , I thought maybe the series will be better. I like the costume, it’s simple and modern. I think Jodie will be a fantastic addition to the series and hopefully there will be an action figure, hopefully a 6 inch one.
Jodie Whittaker is number one in my book
The Outcast
November 14th, 2017 - 7:40amNumber one Doctor or… ?
And there will be an action figure of Jodie. When Character renewed their license, they said there would be 13th Doctor products late next year. Character makes the figures, so this confirms one will be coming at some point.

November 11th, 2017 - 10:15pmOh look Doctor Clown,

November 11th, 2017 - 2:28amDreadfull Dreadfull, Dreadfull is all i can come up with for her outfit. Who cares what the Outside of the Tardis looks like? Its a Police Box and its Blue as long as they don’t change the basics of it, who cares?
I’m a life long Dr Who Fan and i couldnt tell the difference between the Outside of Hartnells, McCoys or Capaldis if my life depended on it, insides yes. Other than episodes where we have had things drawn or stuck on it, i don’t take one bit of notice of the outside.
Tyler Prescott
November 12th, 2017 - 9:07pmWhat? The TARDIS is the face of the show (after the Doctor, of course) and the way it looks is important. I, for one, love the new design, but if it changes too much, it won’t look right, and won’t work in the show.

November 12th, 2017 - 11:57amThis is how I felt in 1987. The difference this time is we have a new head writer and producer. Something we did not have back then. Lets see how it goes , make up your mind then.

November 10th, 2017 - 4:08pmOn the bright side, the Doctor’s new costume means that males are still able to cosplay as her, just like women have cosplayed all of her previous male selves.
The Doctor is eccentric (usually) in what he/she wears, just look at the awful costume that Colin Baker used to wear, i still think that there was some drug use going on when they came up with that idea. I actually like the long coat and the boots, thats it. Im not really that keen on the TARDIS’s new design, but thats mainly due to being used to Matt and Peter’s version.
So now we have seen the Doctor’s outfit and exterior of the police box, i want to see what we will be looking at inside the ship on a Saturday night (thats is as long as Chibnall doesnt ask the BBC to change the air date or something, hes already changed so much…. and yes, thats me having a dig at Chibnall)

November 10th, 2017 - 9:19amI like the new yet classic Tardis exterior, I really hope they’ve gone for a classic style console room with roundels and another set of doors inside and while they’re at it, get rid of that awful merry-go-round thing above the console.

November 10th, 2017 - 9:17amThe TARDIS looks like the TARDIS from the 1900s. The writing signs is black, the POLICE BOX sign is small and (sadly) the ambulance sign has gone but I like the shade of blue. I don’t piticulaly like the new outfit but I guess it is alright. It goes with the classic TARDIS because all of the colours.

November 9th, 2017 - 10:40pmI love the new look! I am very excited to see the variations. I love the classic style TARDIS with a new style of doctor. Also the new marketing team really have a thing with the outdoors don’t they?
When The Doctor Was Me
November 9th, 2017 - 10:36pmThings i’m liking:-
1. The Coat, the doctor always has to have along coat!
2. The Boots (very 11th doctor)
3. The braces
Things i’m not liking
1. The jack up trousers
2. The tops to plain for me.
3. The socks look silly
4. The main thing i hate is they have left her piercings in her ear!! The doctor just wouldn’t have them!
As for the TARDIS it’s very classic who. In fact It has the larger dimensions and still a squared look to it like 9,10,11 and 12’s. But yet slicker like the classic models.
I like the change to a black sign rather than white, but a shame to see the ambulance sign go. Strange the hinges have swapped so it opens differently.
The white window frames remain which i prefer.
From what i can see of the lamp, it looks a little strange.
The colour is gorgeous much duller and battered looking which is what i prefer.
Now on a whim i’m guessing from the window glow the new interior is orangey. But that could just be the picture.

November 10th, 2017 - 9:18amYeah, I 100 per cent agree
Lucas1701
November 9th, 2017 - 10:08pmI like the outfit, although no doubt she’ll have a number of variations. This one has lots of nods to the costumes of previous Doctors, adds a bit of colour and is the right level of eccentric for me. Save for the cut off trousers, I could easily see it being worn by a male Doctor, which I guess is the point: the character is the same, so the style is broadly consistent.
TARDIS looks grand, but need a better image.
