Original Mondasian Cybermen Return to Doctor Who!

From the official site

The original Mondasian Cybermen return to Doctor Who as filming begins on the final block of the forthcoming series…

Filming has begun on the final two episodes of Doctor Who series 10, with this first look image revealing the return of a much-feared classic foe.

The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) is pictured with the Mondasian Cybermen – the original version of the Doctor’s deadly enemies who hail from the planet Mondas and have not been seen in Doctor Who for over fifty years.

The Mondasian Cybermen – Peter Capaldi’s long-time favourite foe – will return in episodes 11 and 12 of the series, alongside Capaldi as the Doctor, Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts, Matt Lucas as Nardole and Michelle Gomez as Missy. The episodes, written by Steven Moffat and directed by Rachel Talalay, are now filming in Cardiff.

I think that it’s different cyber factions: Mondas, Pete’s and Telos/Hedwicks.
The revenge cyberman is a lie from what I’ve heard.

It’s just that I thought the latest model was supposed to be an amalgam of the Cybus and Mondassian Cybermen. Seems atypical unless set in the original Tenth Planet storyline that they wouldn’t all want to upgrade.

Something looks different about them, but I just can’t put my finger on it,
Are the head handles to thin?
Are the wires from the chest unit to the shoulders different?
    Is the chest unit smaller?

Either way, I’m thrilled to see them back! This is going to be *excellent* (wrong cybermen, I know, but I couldn’t resist)

Head handles are smaller and there’s no straps over the arm and the head cloth isn’t as tight it doesn’t look like so it makes them look less creepy

and no visible cellotape to keep the headlamps on. black and white makes the originals creepier.

At first after seeing this on instagram, i thought it was someone’s idea of a joke. But now ive seen it on this site i believe it. I cant help seeing a bit of repetition though.

In Peter’s first series, the Doctor and Clara encountered Missy who was bringing the Cybermen back… in the last two episodes of the series. Series 10 finale, and its Missy back as well as the Cybermen.

So unless theres another story with Missy, it means last time she was seen, she was on Skaro surrounded by the Daleks, and next we see her “hanging out” with Cybermen.

On the bright side, looking forward to seeing the original Cybermen. Cloth faces and human hands in the modern era.

Thats good then, at least theres (hopefully) an explanation of how she escaped from Skaro.

I was hoping that Peter would get his wish to see these return before he left and I think it’s so fitting that they feature in his final finale! I hope they don’t make a joke out of it though! Better feel serious and not stupid! Fingers crossed!

gimmick or not, the fans love em and capaldi has for a while pushed for a confrontation with the original cybermen before he bowed out.

i think its great there coming back, but i hope chris chibnall has some fresher ideas when he takes over. Its capaldi s final season, let it be a classic monsterfest.

Hope they,ve retained their sing song voices. No reason why this can,t pave the way for other cyberman. The earthshock /attack ones would be great as well. I don,t think you could mix them together like they did with the dalek stories asylum etc.. as they seemed to have different periods where they changed and evolved and would seem incongruous all lumped together. the cybermen would probably just discard any previous incarnation and move forward, unlike daleks who put them in an asylum and the like.

Just to be that guy who ruins all the fun do you think they’ll actually have a purpose and be important to the plot or will they just be thrown in the background somewhere with other versions of the cybermen much like the daleks in series 9 where loads of versions were bundled together but didn’t really do anything

The reason they revealed them is probably because it’s currently Cyber-galore on the streets of Cardiff so they would be leaked anyway.

Wow. So excited about Mondasian cybermen but why, oh why could it not be kept a secret. Stop spoiling it !!!! The fundamental excitement of Dr Who was the reveal of the monsters and now we know all the monsters before the series even starts. Shame on you BBC. Why do they feel the need to give it all away ?

Its pretty much for the same reason they revealed the zygons were returning to the series in the anniversary special so early, because they were involved in a lot of outdoor filming and would have been leaked otherwise. There were cybermen were all over cardiff last night with lots of leaked filming pics.

What a great photo! Peter Capaldi has already had a story with classic Daleks and even sat in Davros chair, now he is in a story with MONDAS CYBERMEN!! I was looking forward to this series enough but now I’m positively bursting with excitement! Although it would be nice if this could be the Xmas special!

Yes, I agree. Brilliant news as it is, it would have made a great cliffhanger. On the other hand, it might be difficult to keep it secret given that they do have to film the episodes. Hopefully there will be other nice surprises in store instead.

I’m literally speechless! I love Capaldi, Bill and Nardole – Then we’ve got the Daleks, Original Cybermen (and modern ones too by the looks of it), Weeping Angels, Ice Warriors (Plus an Ice Lord of some sort!), Movellans and Missy! This series is going to be epic! 😀

YEEEESSSSS!!! Capaldi finally get’s his wish! So glad he’s got this since he’s a fantastic actor who, despite being brilliant in the role, has been badly handled in his time as The Doctor. He more than deserves this! I think I’m equally happy for him as I am to see these awesome enemies back at last! 😀

Capaldi did say he would like the original Cybermen to come back I think. So that’s one box ticked. Maybe his other wish should be in his final story. The Christmas Special. That he could meet an older Susan in a future Christmas or something. It would make for a poignant finale for Capaldi’s Doctor.

The scariest cybermen. The best cybermen. Hopefully moff uses these correctly and builds a grwat story. Also what if. What if since he is the first of the 2nd batch of regenerations he dies a similar way to william hartnells doc after faceing the same enemys
