Original Mondasian Cybermen Return to Doctor Who!

From the official site

The original Mondasian Cybermen return to Doctor Who as filming begins on the final block of the forthcoming series…

Filming has begun on the final two episodes of Doctor Who series 10, with this first look image revealing the return of a much-feared classic foe.

The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) is pictured with the Mondasian Cybermen – the original version of the Doctor’s deadly enemies who hail from the planet Mondas and have not been seen in Doctor Who for over fifty years.

The Mondasian Cybermen – Peter Capaldi’s long-time favourite foe – will return in episodes 11 and 12 of the series, alongside Capaldi as the Doctor, Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts, Matt Lucas as Nardole and Michelle Gomez as Missy. The episodes, written by Steven Moffat and directed by Rachel Talalay, are now filming in Cardiff.

In all the 6 million or so Doctor who fans, surely someone is going to have the same idea as one of the people in charge of the show.

It’s just a coincidence that people have similar ideas

The BBC aren’t spying on people for ideas

I don’t know for sure but I expect modern times as the nightmare in silver and Cybus cyberman also feature in the same episode plus the design has been updated implying they are newer than 1966 versions when they were introduced. Behind the scene images also show civilians which are dressed to fit in with modern times.

It’s just that I thought the latest model was supposed to be an amalgam of the Cybus and Mondassian Cybermen. Seems atypical unless set in the original Tenth Planet storyline that they wouldn’t all want to upgrade.

Doctor Stu’s comment could equally be well made about the Daleks, They need to do things even if we don’t always see it that are proper unsettling like when they were extracting information from a UNiIT scientist’s mind and killing him in the process in “Doomsday” and using test subjects in “The Stolen Earth/journeys End” for testing the reality bomb. In the classic series they were known to do things like engage in bacteriological warfare prior to invading a world. Terry Nation as alluded to in “Genesis Of The Daleks” did say that they were supposed to be a metaphor for the Nazis.

Well I can truthfully say after seeing Destiny Of The Daleks thinking how could the Daleks free Davros from imprisonment on Earth short of a costly and risky full scale attack unless he was put in something like a space station and then lo and behold in Resurrection Of The Daleks he’s been kept in cryosleep in a space station.

Because the 10th planet story that first introduced them was set then.

Maybe if you all looked on youtube, u may find that Tom Tardis made his own stories. When the Cult of Skaro came into the show, i was out with my mates and tried to remember all the names. At the time i had forgotten what Dalek Jast was called and said it was called Rabe. Next thing i see is the old Battles in Time Card collection with a Dalek called Rabe. Walls have ears as the old saying goes.

I agree they could be really laughable they need to have something really chilling about them like their creepy voices or a new ability to really make them stand out and not just seem like a gimmick. I’ve honestly just got a feeling they’re being thrown in there for the sake of it and won’t have as big a role as I first expected. It needs to be snowing and foggy to make them retain their original creepiness. Ah well we’ll soon see

Great for the fans, but the general viewer won’t care. Whilst it’s great to have these Cybermen back, they don’t sit well with the modern series. If not done right, they will be laughed off the screen. They worked well in the 60’s, and I must add in black and white. But the transition to HD could leave a lot to be desired.

The Mondas versions were good, but the voices of the tomb Cybermen sounded more sinister as they used to scare the hell out of me.

Again,I think dr who has copied me. I created a multi cybermen story titled “legacy of the cybermen” and also the title “day of the doctor” was created by me before the 50th anniversary. Ive also created a theme for capaldis regeneration. Hope they don’t coy that too, lol

I saw some filming videos and pics and it looks like the new cyber men and the David tennant cyber men are back in action and are invading the streets again finally! We also see half converted hospital people who are guiding a group of humans to be converted! Looks great so far!
