Samuel Anderson Joins the Cast of Doctor Who
Rising Star Joins Doctor Who for Peter Capaldi’s First Series
From the offical site
Samuel Anderson (The History Boys, Gavin & Stacey, Emmerdale) is set to join the cast of Doctor Who as a recurring character in series 8, which will also introduce Peter Capaldi as the Doctor to millions of viewers for the first time. Anderson will play Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School where companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) also teaches.
On joining the show Samuel Anderson said: ‘I was so excited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started! It’s a quintessential part of British culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it. It’s an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!’
Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, added: ‘For the fourth time in Doctor Who history, Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS. In 1963 teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the First Doctor. These days it’s the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why? Answers are coming later this year in Peter Capaldi’s first series of Doctor Who!’
Filming recently began on episode 4 of the new series which will co-star Robert Goodman (Gangs of New York, Game of Thrones) and episode 5, co-starring Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch, Groove High), and Pippa Bennett-Warner (The Smoke, Death in Paradise).

April 3rd, 2014 - 9:17amNo problem with him, but could they have not given him another name, rather than Danny “PINK”. “Danny” is a fine and upstanding name. However, how many of us have been lumbered with a surname which does not compliment our Christian name? The poor boy!

March 7th, 2014 - 5:57pmGuys, no-one mentioned ABOARD THE TARDIS. He’s in more than one episode. That’s pretty much all we know about his companion status. He may not even see the TARDIS for all we know. He may not even meet the Doctor!
As for Clara’s ‘love interest’, I would like to see a more imaginative way of introducing a recurring character than family or love (They’re OK to have but it’s silly how the only people we meet more than once when the TARDIS returns to the companion’s home is family and boy/girlfriends), like Harriet Jones in Series 1.

March 6th, 2014 - 4:46pmis is true that Peter has only signed and ones year contract??? I have a friend who has this crazy theory that this knew guy will actually be the doctor the whole time ( hiding as a teacher like he always does)) and Peter is a roundabout way to introduce a black doctor. I think the theory is crazy but I’m excited for another male companion
100000BC
March 6th, 2014 - 6:56pmStupid theory based on no real evidence, although Peter may only have signed for one year; then he can sign up for the next few years separately.

February 25th, 2014 - 9:51amA new male companion will be a great addition to the TARDIS crew. The new Doctor played by Peter is going to be a lot older than David and Matt and there may not be able to all the stunts as a younger person. Samuel Anderson will be a great addition as he was in ”History Boys” which a good British film with Dominic Copper and Kames Cordon.
Samuel also was in Emmerdale

February 24th, 2014 - 3:43pmMy opinion is that he has been introduced as a romantic interest for Clara as series 8 progresses so then she has a reason to leave at the end of series 8.
P.S.
I really hope I’m wrong as Clara is one of my faviourite companions and I really want her to say for series 9.

February 24th, 2014 - 2:51pmSo is he a new compainon?
DOCTOR WHO ONE
February 24th, 2014 - 3:15pmHe might become a new companion, but from what’s been said, it seems more like his just gonna be like Jackie Tyler and Wilfred Mott, characters who are not strictly companions but who appear in the series from time to time.
Gallifrey Falls No More
February 24th, 2014 - 3:24pmThere were rumors that there was going to be another, male, companion, so it is likely he is.

Dalek the Supreme
February 24th, 2014 - 1:46pmA new companion? Can’t wait to see the character in action! 😀 Wait a minute… the Doctor’s companions are two teachers from Coal Hill School… maybe he’ll be joined by a Time Lord companion by the end of the season, too! 😆
DOCTOR WHO ONE
February 24th, 2014 - 2:27pmThey haven’t actually said his a new companion. He could be more like Jackie Tyler or Wilfred Mott, characters who are not strictly companions but who appear from time to time during the series.
Dalek the Supreme
February 27th, 2014 - 11:20pmThat is true, but it would be nice to have another person in the TARDIS, especially someone with more character development than it’s current resident human.
DOCTOR WHO ONE
February 24th, 2014 - 1:20pmNever heard of the actor, but it will be great to see Coal Hill School again so soon after last years 50th Anniversary special ‘The Day of the Doctor’.
Thinking about it, it would be fun if during series 8 they make references to Coal Hill Schools past with the fact that Ian, Barbra and Susan where Teachers and Student in that School [An Unearthly Child] and that the Doctor had actually been to his Granddaughter’s School back in his 7th incarnation fighting Imperial and Renegade Daleks with Ace [Remembrance of the Daleks].
Jammy2305
February 24th, 2014 - 4:32pmI’m sure he was the one who gave Clara the message at the beginning of the 50th?
DOCTOR WHO ONE
February 25th, 2014 - 8:12amNo he wasn’t, totally different guy who was white skinned not black.
Teresa
March 6th, 2014 - 4:47pmanyone have any clue where the doctors Granddaughter is ??? I wish they would have her come back. Different actress of course new regeneration ^.^
doyouhearthem
February 24th, 2014 - 10:29amcool – it’s good that we have a recurring character for out new doctor. But I’d rather we didn’t end up with the same scenario we had with Matt Smith and the wonderful Ponds: history may repeat itself but the Doctor doesn’t…
Anonymous
February 24th, 2014 - 11:46amIf anything, it sounds more similar to Ian and Barabra than the Ponds. That said, Ian and Barbara were crucial to the show – right back in the day, the producers were emphsising the importance of the companion’s role…infact they helped shape the Doctor into the person we know today.
doyouhearthem
February 24th, 2014 - 1:18pmYes,and I recogognise that. Ian and Barbara remain two of the four most important characters in the shows history. What I meant about the similarities was that I don’t think we can really have another couple in the TARDIS, as we only lost the Ponds recently and I find the Doctor’s relationship with Clara very special. I wish Samuel Anderson all the best and I think he will make a fantastic addition to the programe that we love so much. I hope that he works well with Capaldi to bring an exciting new revolution to the series as well.

February 24th, 2014 - 2:05pmWell I think you’ll be ok, there is no mention that he is a love interest…just a colleague.

February 24th, 2014 - 1:20pmI think he looks similar because he appears to play a more gooseberry character and, more trivially, a samish jacket and posture…
DALEKSKITTLES
February 24th, 2014 - 6:11pmI only said it because I think he looks abit like Micky smith haha could be a love boy for Clara, seeing how we have a older doctor now and so their might be less kissing with his assistants so I’m guessing he is Clara’s smoocher
