Samuel Anderson Joins the Cast of Doctor Who
Rising Star Joins Doctor Who for Peter Capaldi’s First Series
From the offical site
Samuel Anderson (The History Boys, Gavin & Stacey, Emmerdale) is set to join the cast of Doctor Who as a recurring character in series 8, which will also introduce Peter Capaldi as the Doctor to millions of viewers for the first time. Anderson will play Danny Pink, a teacher at Coal Hill School where companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) also teaches.
On joining the show Samuel Anderson said: ‘I was so excited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started! It’s a quintessential part of British culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it. It’s an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!’
Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, added: ‘For the fourth time in Doctor Who history, Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS. In 1963 teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the First Doctor. These days it’s the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why? Answers are coming later this year in Peter Capaldi’s first series of Doctor Who!’
Filming recently began on episode 4 of the new series which will co-star Robert Goodman (Gangs of New York, Game of Thrones) and episode 5, co-starring Jonathan Bailey (Broadchurch, Groove High), and Pippa Bennett-Warner (The Smoke, Death in Paradise).

February 24th, 2014 - 6:11pmI only said it because I think he looks abit like Micky smith haha could be a love boy for Clara, seeing how we have a older doctor now and so their might be less kissing with his assistants so I’m guessing he is Clara’s smoocher

February 24th, 2014 - 5:27pmI think if he was going to become a companion during S8 then we would be told so if he does I think it will be in S9 or after. For the moment he is like the Brig in seasons 5 and 6, Borusa, Mickey in S1, Jackie, and Rory in the 1st half of S5.

February 24th, 2014 - 4:18pmyes, TC200, but Ian and Barbara were teachers at Coalhill School and they travelled with him. Besides, it was 50th Anniversary a few months ago, so…….

February 24th, 2014 - 3:43pmMy opinion is that he has been introduced as a romantic interest for Clara as series 8 progresses so then she has a reason to leave at the end of series 8.
P.S.
I really hope I’m wrong as Clara is one of my faviourite companions and I really want her to say for series 9.

DOCTOR WHO ONE
February 24th, 2014 - 3:15pmHe might become a new companion, but from what’s been said, it seems more like his just gonna be like Jackie Tyler and Wilfred Mott, characters who are not strictly companions but who appear in the series from time to time.

February 24th, 2014 - 2:51pmSo is he a new compainon?
DOCTOR WHO ONE
February 24th, 2014 - 2:27pmThey haven’t actually said his a new companion. He could be more like Jackie Tyler or Wilfred Mott, characters who are not strictly companions but who appear from time to time during the series.

February 24th, 2014 - 2:05pmWell I think you’ll be ok, there is no mention that he is a love interest…just a colleague.
Dalek the Supreme
February 24th, 2014 - 1:46pmA new companion? Can’t wait to see the character in action! 😀 Wait a minute… the Doctor’s companions are two teachers from Coal Hill School… maybe he’ll be joined by a Time Lord companion by the end of the season, too! 😆

February 24th, 2014 - 1:20pmI think he looks similar because he appears to play a more gooseberry character and, more trivially, a samish jacket and posture…
DOCTOR WHO ONE
February 24th, 2014 - 1:20pmNever heard of the actor, but it will be great to see Coal Hill School again so soon after last years 50th Anniversary special ‘The Day of the Doctor’.
Thinking about it, it would be fun if during series 8 they make references to Coal Hill Schools past with the fact that Ian, Barbra and Susan where Teachers and Student in that School [An Unearthly Child] and that the Doctor had actually been to his Granddaughter’s School back in his 7th incarnation fighting Imperial and Renegade Daleks with Ace [Remembrance of the Daleks].

February 24th, 2014 - 1:18pmYes,and I recogognise that. Ian and Barbara remain two of the four most important characters in the shows history. What I meant about the similarities was that I don’t think we can really have another couple in the TARDIS, as we only lost the Ponds recently and I find the Doctor’s relationship with Clara very special. I wish Samuel Anderson all the best and I think he will make a fantastic addition to the programe that we love so much. I hope that he works well with Capaldi to bring an exciting new revolution to the series as well.

February 24th, 2014 - 12:33pmdon’t think so, more Rose Mick relationship i think

February 24th, 2014 - 12:31pmI think people are saying mickey smith 2 because of his skin colour if im honest

February 24th, 2014 - 11:46amIf anything, it sounds more similar to Ian and Barabra than the Ponds. That said, Ian and Barbara were crucial to the show – right back in the day, the producers were emphsising the importance of the companion’s role…infact they helped shape the Doctor into the person we know today.

February 24th, 2014 - 10:29amcool – it’s good that we have a recurring character for out new doctor. But I’d rather we didn’t end up with the same scenario we had with Matt Smith and the wonderful Ponds: history may repeat itself but the Doctor doesn’t…
